Exact solution on the anti-symmetric response of ships having uniform sectional properties in waves is derived. Boundary value problem consisted of Timoshenko beam equation and free-free end condition is solved analytically. The responses are assumed as linear and wave loads are calculated by using strip method. Horizontal bending moment, shear force and torsional moment are calculated. The developed analysis model is used for the benchmark test of the numerical codes in this problem. Also the application on the preliminary design of barge-like ships and VLFS (Very Large Floating Structure) is expected

A huge offshore structures such as immersed tunnel, ice-resisting wall are continuously subjected to large force from water pressure, wave action and impact loads. Composite steel-concrete structure of sandwich system has profitable advantages for a huge offshore structures. This composite structures should exhibit a high degree of strength and ductility, because of concrete confining effect and the property of steel plate. Therefore, it endures large deformation and absorbs a great deal of energy until failure. In this study, nonlinear analysis for composite steel-concrete structure of sandwich system was carried out, and certify the effects of various parameters, elastic·plastic behavior characteristic, load-carrying and failure mechanism.

The steady breakers at an infant stage are investigated through the numerical simulation. The appearing condition and characteristics of the sub-breaking waves are reviewed by analysing bow waves. The instability analysis is possibly done through the relationship between the free-surface curvature and circumferential force, which is obtained from the momentum equations. Navier-Stokes equations are solved by a finite difference method where the body-fitted coordinate system, the wall function and the advanced mesh system are invoked. The numerical result shows that the gradient of M/$U_s$ is greatly influenced by the Froude number and the decrease of M/$U_s$ indicates that the flows are unstable. Additionally flows with plunging or spilling are simulated successfully, but the application of breakers to the severely broken wave still remains to be settled in the future.
The analysis and investigation are described for White's[2] equations compared to the equations of Runeburg[3] and Milano[5] for continuous icebreaking mode, Tunik[8-1] and Ghoneim[8-2] for ramming icebreaking mode. Calculation results compare reasonably well with published model-scale and full-scale icebreaker data by Baker[1] and Dick[11]. During continuous and ramming mode operation, using characteristics of an incebreaker, down ward force on ice and standard ice thickness broken are predicted. Additionally draft, trim and extraction difficulty are also predicted. The bow part line of an icebreakin $g^{ply}$ vessel is designed aiming to maximize the ice breaking capabiltiy as following conditions-low bow angle[20 degrees] at designed waterline, small spread angle complement [6 degrees] at designed waterline, small spread angle complement [6 degrees] and high propeller thrust [220tons]. with plow, two reamers and wave type bumper.
The paper evaluates the aerodynamic coefficients on a blunt-nose re-entry capsule with a conical cross-section followed by a cone-flare body. A computer code is developed to solve three-dimensional compressible inviscid equationsfor flow over a Space Recovery Experiment (SRE) configuration at different flare-cone half-angle at Mach 6 and angle of attack up to 5°, at 1° interval. The surface pressure variation is numerically integrated to obtain the aerodynamic forces and pitching moment. The numerical analysis reveals the influence of flare-cone geometry on the flow characteristics and aerodynamic coefficients. The numerical results agree with wind tunnel results. Increase of cone-flare angle from 25° to 35° results in increase of normal force slope, axial forebody drag, base drag and location of centre of pressure by 62.5%, 56.2% and 33.13%, respectively, from the basic configuration ofthe SRE of 25°.
When the numerical analysis is carried out, it is necessary to set proper elements as a feature of analysis domains for more accurate simulations. In this study, Distinct Element Method(DEM) is applied, only considering repulsive force and tensile force except for frictional force and resisting force of particle. When the filled particles with initial Quad-tree type is relocated by DEM, a blank space existing among the particles can be minimized because the shape of particle is circular. Finally, it is the effective feature that the centroidal disposion of the particles is similar to an equilateral triangle. Triangular mesh are formed by using the Delaunay triangular technique on these relocated particles, the quality of triangular mesh is more improved by carrying out Laplace interpolations. The compared result of Aspect Ratio before and after the Laplace interpolation is shown that although the quality of triangular mesh made by DEM is good, the later triangular mesh are higher quality than the formers. In this study, although the developed technique takes a longer calculational time than the previous technique to generate triangular mesh, it is considered that the applicable possibility is very high in the generation of finite element mesh about wave analysis and various numerical simulation to need a complex or reappearance of exact topography.
When a ship with a planing line operates or turns in a straight line, the floating position and trim change according to the speed, and a large resistance is generated on the hull. In this paper, the resistance to a planing line was estimated through the computational fluid dynamics of a leisure boat with improved hull weight and durability by applying a carbon composite material to the hull. The resistance performance of the bow and stern of the 18ft class leisure boat was checked and the flow field of the entire vessel was estimated, and the stability of the planing line was confirmed by comparing the resistance of each trim through numerical analysis. In addition, it was confirmed that the designed planing line could withstand it sufficiently because the force applied to the hull was not large, and The stability of the boat was analyzed by calculating the wavelength of the wave and the length of the ship as the ratio of gravity to the inertial force and checking how much force the rolling occurred.

This research investigates the stability analysis for the rotating and the stationary grooved journal bearing. The dynamic coefficients of the journal bearing are calculated by using FEM and the perturbation method. When journal bearing is in whirling motion, the dynamic coefficients have time-varying components as a sine wave due to the reaction force of oil film toward the center of journal even in the steady state. The solutions for the equations of motion can be assumed as the Fourier series expansion. The equations of motion can be rewritten as the linear algebraic equations with respect to the Fourier coefficients. Then, stability of the grooved journal bearing can be calculated by Hill's infinite determinant. The periodic function of dynamic coefficients is derived using Fourier Fast Transform(FFT).The stability of journal bearing is determined as rotating speed increases and the stability of rotating grooved journal bearing is compared and discussed with the stability of stationary grooved journal bearing.
Due to the escalation in hydrocarbon consumption, the offshore industry is now looking for advanced technology to be employed for deep sea exploration. Riser system is an integral part of floating structure used for such oil and gas extraction from deep water offering a system of drill twines and production tubing to spread the exploration well towards the ocean bed. Thus, the marine risers need to be precisely employed. The incorporation of the strengthening material, fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) for deep and ultra-deep water riser has drawn extensive curiosity in offshore engineering as it might offer potential weight savings and improved durability. The design for FRP strengthening involves the local design for critical loads along with the global analysis under all possible nonlinearities and imposed loadings such as platform motion, gravity, buoyancy, wave force, hydrostatic pressure, current etc. for computing and evaluating critical situations. Finite element package, ABAQUS/AQUA is the competent tool to analyze the static and dynamic responses under the offshore hydrodynamic loads. The necessities in design and operating conditions are studied. The study includes describing the methodology, procedure of analysis and the local design of composite riser. The responses and fatigue damage characteristics of the risers are explored for the effects of FRP strengthening. A detail assessment on the technical expansion of strengthening riser has been outlined comprising the inquiry on its behavior. The enquiry exemplifies the strengthening of riser as very potential idea and suitable in marine structures to explore oil and gas in deep sea.
A new type of fabricated subway station construction technology can effectively solve these problems. For a new type of metro structure form, it is necessary to clarify its mechanical properties, especially the seismic performance. A soil-structure elastoplastic finite element model is established to perform three-dimensional nonlinear dynamic time-history analysis based on the first fabricated station structure-Yuanjiadian station of Changchun Metro Line 2, China. Firstly, the nonlinear seismic response characteristics of the fabricated and cast-in-place subway stations under different seismic wave excitations are compared and analyzed. Then, a comprehensive analysis of several important parameters that may affect the seismic response of fabricated subway stations is given. The results show that the maximum plastic strain, the interlayer deformation, and the internal force of fabricated station structures are smaller than that of cast-in-place structure, which indicates that the fabricated station structure has good deformation coordination capability and mechanical properties. The seismic responses of fabricated stations were mainly affected by the soil-structure stiffness ratio, the soil inertia effect, and earthquake load conditions rarely mentioned in cast-in-place stations. The critical parameters have little effect on the interlayer deformation but significantly affect the joints' opening distance and contact stress, which can be used as the evaluation index of the seismic performance of fabricated station structures. The presented results can better understand the seismic responses and guide the seismic design of the fabricated station.
