Water waves propagate over irregular bottom bathymetry are transformed by refraction, diffraction, shoaling, reflection etc. Principal factor of wave transform is bottom bathymetry, but in case of current field, current is another important factor which effect wave transformation. The governing equation of this study is develop as wave-current equation type to investigate the effect of wave-current interaction. This wave-current model was applied to the Kwangan beach which is located at Pusan. The numerical simulation results of this model show the characteristics of wave transformation and flow pattern around the Kwangan beach fairly well.
Water waves propagate over irregular bottom bathymetry are transformed by refraction, diffraction, shoaling, reflection etc. Principal factor of wave transform is bottom bathymetry, but in case of current field, current is another important factor which effect wave transformation. The governing equation of this study is develope as wave-current equation type to investigate the effect of wave-current interaction. It starts from Berkhoff's(1972) mild slope equation and is transformed to time-dependent hyperbolic type equation by using variational principal. Finally the governing equation is shown as a parabolic type equation by splitting method. This wave-current model was applied to the kwangan beach which is located at Pusan. The numerical simulation results of this model show the characteristics of wave transformation and flow pattern around the Kwangan beach fairly well.

The purpose of this study is to observe the applicability of parabolic mild-slope equations allowing relatively large angles of wave propagation based on the use of a Pade approximant or minimax approximation and also the applicability of the models with nonlinearity of diffracted waves in the shadow zone behind coastal structures. To accomplish these objectives, numerical solutions are obtained from the above parabolic models and are compared with the results from Watanabe and Maruyama's(1984) hydraulic model test on the wave field with an impermeable detached breakwater. From this study, it is found that computed wave heights increase for the nonlinear results in comparison to the linear results due to the increased diffraction effect across the geometric shadow boundary. The model with a larger aperture with respect to the principal direction was found to spread laterally to a much greater degree where spreading angle (diffraction effect) is relatively large. which causes a distortion in the overall results due to the error accumulated by the approximation of wave length.

This paper employs computational tools to investigate the diffraction effects in regular head waves on the added resistance and wake on the propeller plane. The objective ships are a 66,000 DWT bulk carrier and a 3,600 TEU container ship. Fixed and free to heave and pitch conditions at design speed have been taken into account. Two-phase unsteady Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations have been solved using the finite volume method; and a realizable k-ε model has been applied for the turbulent closure. The free surface is obtained by solving a VOF equation. The computations are carried out at the same scale of the model tests. Grid and numerical wave damping zones are applied to remove unwanted wave reflection at the boundaries. The computational results are analyzed using the Fourier series. The added resistances in waves at the free condition are higher than those at the fixed condition, which are nearly constant for all wavelengths. The wake velocity in waves is higher than that in calm water, and is accelerated where the wave crest locates on the propeller plane. When the vertical motion at the stern goes upward, the wake velocity also accelerated.

This study develops an efficient and accurate method for calculating nonlinear diffraction beam fields propagating in fluids or solids. The Westervelt equation and quasilinear theory, from which the integral solutions for the fundamental and second harmonics can be obtained, are first considered. A computationally efficient method is then developed using a multi-Gaussian beam (MGB) model that easily separates the diffraction effects from the plane wave solution. The MGB models provide accurate beam fields when compared with the integral solutions for a number of transmitter-receiver geometries. These models can also serve as fast, powerful modeling tools for many nonlinear acoustics applications, especially in making diffraction corrections for the nonlinearity parameter determination, because of their computational efficiency and accuracy.
Goda formula (Goda, 1973) has been used in the determination of wave pressures acting on a large size caisson such as the pier of the cable stayed bridge at sea. Goda formula, however, is to evaluate the wave pressures acting the infinite vertical caisson of composite breakwater so that it can`t be applied to a large caisson with finite width and length because of diffraction effects. In the present study, three dimensional nonlinear frequence domain method based on perturbation method and boundary integral method is applied to the computation of the linear and nonlinear wave pressures acting on the front of a large size caisson under the variation of its width and length, and angle of incident wave. The numerical results are compared to Goda\`s ones, and then the characteristics of wave pressure distributions acting on a large size caisson are discussed.

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) have attracted the attention of scientists and engineers involved in a wide area of research, microscopy, diagnostics and sensing. SPPs are waves that propagate along the surface of a conductor, usually metals. These are essentially light waves that are trapped on the surface because of their interaction with the free electrons of conductor. In this interaction, the free electrons respond collectively by oscillating in resonance with the light wave. The resonant interaction between the surface charge oscillation and the electromagnetic field of the light constitutes the SPPs and gives rise to its unique properties. In this papers, we studied theoretical and experimental extraordinary transmittance (T) and reflectance (R) of 2 dimensional metal hole array (2D-MHA) on GaAs in consideration of the diffraction orders. The 2d-MHAs was fabricated using ultra-violet photolithography, electron-beam evaporation and standard lift-off process with pitches ranging from 1.8 to $3.2{\mu}m$ and diameter of half of pitch, and was deposited 5-nm thick layer of titanium (Ti) as an adhesion layer and 50-nm thick layer of gold (Au) on the semiinsulating GaAs substrate. We employed both the commercial software (CST Microwave Studio: Computer Simulation Technology GmbH, Darmstadt, Germany) based on a finite integration technique (FIT) and a rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA) to calculate transmittance and reflectance. The transmittance was measured at a normal incident, and the reflectance was measured at variable incident angle of range between $30^{\circ}{\sim}80^{\circ}$ with a Nicolet Fourier transmission infrared (FTIR) spectrometer with a KBr beam splitter and a MCT detector. For MHAs of pitch (P), the peaks ${\lambda}$ max in the normal incidence transmittance spectra can be indentified approximately from SP dispersion relation, that is frequency-dependent SP wave vector (ksp). Shown in Fig. 1 is the transmission of P=2.2 um sample at normal incidence. We attribute the observation to be a result of FTIR system may be able to collect the transmitted light with higher diffraction order than 0th order. This is confirmed by calculations: for the MHAs, diffraction efficiency in (0, 0) diffracted orders is lower than in the (${\pm}x$, ${\pm}y$) diffracted orders. To further investigate the result, we calculated the angular dependent transmission of P=2.2 um sample (Fig. 2). The incident angle varies from 30o to 70o with a 10o increment. We also found the splitting character on reflectance measurement. The splitting effect is considered a results of SPPs assisted diffraction process by oblique incidence.
The first order mation responses of a floating structure and the hydrodynamic forces in regular waves are obtained by means of the linear potential theory. The first order potential is obtained directly from the numerical solution of the improved Green integral equation which is characterized by the combined surface distribution of sources and normal doublets. The mean second order wave drift force is also calculated by means of the near field method. It seems that the present method gives more accurate numerical results than other methods and the agreement between numerical and experimental results appears to be satisfactory.

Applying rigorous modal transmission-line theory (MTLT), the properties of resonant diffraction gratings under conical light incidence is investigated. The mode vectors pertinent to resonant diffraction under conical mounting vary less with incident angle than those associated with diffraction gratings in classical mounting. Furthermore, as the evanescent diffracted waves drive the leaky modes responsible for the resonance effects, the conical mounting imbues diffraction gratings with larger angular tolerance than their classical counterparts. Based on these concepts, the angular-spectral and wavelength-spectral performance of resonant diffraction gratings in conical and classical mounts by numerical calculations with spectra found for conical incidence are quantified. These results will be useful in various applications demanding resonant diffraction gratings that are efficient and physically sparse.

The array patterns of a patch array antenna were calculated using an active element pattern (AEP) method that considers ground edge effects. The classical equivalent radiation model of the patch antenna, which is characterized by two radiating slots, was adopted, and the AEPs that include mutual coupling were precisely calculated using full-wave simulated S-parameters. To improve the accuracy of the calculation, the edge diffraction of a ground plane was incorporated into AEP using the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction. The array patterns were then calculated on the basis of the computed AEPs. The array patterns obtained through the conventional AEP approach and the AEP method that takes ground edge effects into account were compared with the findings derived through full-wave simulations conducted using a High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) and FEKO software. Results showed that the array patterns calculated using the proposed AEP method are more accurate than those derived using the conventional AEP technique, especially under a small number of array elements or under increased steering angles.
