The purpose of this study is to estimate overall reliability and applicability of the watershed modeling for systematic management of point and non-point sources via water quality analysis and prediction of runoff discharge within watershed. Recently, runoff characteristics and pollutant characteristics have been changing in watershed by anomaly climate and urbanization. In this study, the effects of watershed scale were analyzed in runoff and water quality modeling using HSPF. In case of correlation coefficient, its range was from 0.936 to 0.984 in case A(divided - 2 small watersheds). On the other hand, its range was form 0.840 to 0.899 in case B(united - 1 watershed). In case of Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient, its range was from 0.718 to 0.966 in case A. On the other hand, its range was from 0.441 to 0.683 in case B. As a result, it was judged that case A was more accurate than case B. Therefore, runoff and water quality modeling in minimum watershed scale that was provided data for calibration and verification was judged to be favorable in accuracy. If optimal watershed dividing and parameter optimization using PEST in HSPF with more reliable measured data are carried out, more accurate runoff and water quality modeling will be performed.

In this study, SWAT model was applied to the Soyang Dam upstream watershed in order to evaluate the model applicability for estimating runoff, sediment, and nutrients loadings from the watershed. By trial and error method, the model parameters related with runoff, sediment, nitrogen and phosphorus were calibrated step by step. Then the simulated runoff, sediment, and nutrients loadings by the model were compared with the observed data measured at the Soyang Dam, the outlet of the watershed. And several statistical criteria were calculated to evaluate the model performance. From the comparison and statistical criteria, good agreement between simulated and observed stream flows was found. For sediment and nutrients, it was not reliable to quantitatively model the observed values, but the model could simulate the trend with reasonable accuracy. Hence, it was concluded that the model can be applied for the long-term non-point modeling in a large watershed.

For an urban watershed modeling, the ILLVDAS and SWMM model were the popular rainfall-runoff models using in Korea. However, combined sewerage systems in urban area produce some problems when a flood event happens because of the surcharged precipitation amounts which drain to streams directly. Also, rack of pipe line data and difficulties of modeling yield inappropriate modeling results in urban runoff analysis. In addition, rainfall-runoff models in an urban which using channel routing could be inaccurate and complicated processes. In this paper, the MIKE SWMM model has been applied for a stable urban area runoff analysis. Watershed and pipe line data were established by using past inundated records, DEM data and numerical pipe line data. For a runoff modeling, the Runoff block was adapted to a basin and the Extran block using dynamic equation was applied for sewerage system. After a comparisons against existing models yield that the MIKE SWMM model produce reliable and consistence results without distorting parameter of the model.

For urban watershed models, the ILLUDAS and SWMM are the popular rainfall-runoff models used in Korea. However, combined sewage systems in urban areas produced problems when a flood occured because of the surcharged precipitation amount which drained to the streams directly. Also, the lack of pipe line data and the difficulties of modeling yield inappropriate modeling results in urban runoff analysis. In addition, rainfall-runoff models in urban areas which use channel routing could have inaccurate and complicated processes. In this paper, the MIKE SWMM model has been applied for the stable runoff analysis of urban areas. Watershed and pipe line data were established by using past inundated records, DEM data, and the numerical pipe line data. For runoff modelings, the runoff block was adapted to a basin and the Extran block using dynamic equations was applied to the sewage system. After comparing to models that exist, it is concluded that the MIKE SWMM model produces reliable and consistence results without distorting the Parameters of the model.
The main objective of this study is to simulate the rainfall-runoff relationship of the Ohwon rivet basin. For the this study, we used GIS technique and HMS(Hydrological Modeling System). In this study, watershed itself and geometric factors of watershed are extracted from DEM by using a GIS technique. The scanned data of topographical map with scale of 1:50,000 in the Ohwon river basin is used to this study and it is converted to DEM data. The parameters of Hydrological Modeling System as watershed area(A), river length, SCS Curve Number(CN) etc. are extracted by using the GIS technique in the Ohwon Basin. Extracted parameters are applied to the Hydrological Model System, then the paramenters optimized by the observed data and rainfall data. Then, the optimized parameters and Hydrological Modeling System are applied to the study area for the simulation of rainfall-runoff relationship. With the resultn of this study, GIS technique is useful to the extraction of watershed characteristics factors and Hydrological Modeling System is successful to the simulation of rainfall-runoff relationship.
In this study, a simple rainfall-runoff model was proposed by using the hydraulic routing model that requires relatively few parameters. The parameters of this model were estimated by the watershed characteristics data, and were applied to the Soyang watershed and Ui stream watershed by using the kinematic wave for overland flow and dynamic wave routing for channel routing. In order to demonstrate validity, the proposed approach was compared to the HEC-1 model for the Soyang watershed. As the results of modeling have shown, the hydraulic model shows reasonable results similar to that of the HEC-1 model. This model also represents good results for the Ui stream watershed. Hence, even if this model is a simple rainfall-runoff model using general methodology, it is competitive to the natural watershed. However, it is still difficult to estimate the roughness coefficient and the catchment width, and therefore this model is in need of such supplements.

Geographic data which are difficult to handle by the characteristics of spatial variation and variety turned into a possibility to analyze with tlie computer-aided digital map and the use of Geographic Information System(GIS). The purpose of this study is to develop and apply a GIS application model (GISCELWAB) for the spatial simulation of surface runoff from a small watershed. This paper discribes the modeling procedure and the applicability of the cell water balance model (CELWAB) which calculates the water balance of a cell and simulates surface runoff of watershed simultaneously by the interaction of cells. The cell water balance model was developed to simulate the temporal and spatial storage depth and surface runoff of a watershed. The CELWAB model was constituted by Inflow-Outflow Calculator (JOC) which was developed to connect cell-to-cell transport mechanism automatically in this study. The CELWAB model requests detail data for each component of a cell hydrologic process. In this study, therefore, BANWOL watershed which have available field data was selected, and sensitivity for several model parameters was analyzed. The simulated results of surface runoff agreed well with the observed data for the rising phase of hydrograph except the recession phase. Each mean of relative errors for peak discharge and peak time was 0.21% and2.1 1% respectively. In sensitivity analysis of CELWAB , antecedent soil moisture condition(AMC) affected most largely the model.

Harmonized World Soil Database (HWSD) including the global soil information has been implemented to the runoff analysis in many watersheds of the world. However, its accuracy can be a critical issue in the modeling because of the limitation the low resolution reflecting the physical properties of soil in a watershed. Accordingly, this study attempted to assess the effect of HWSD in modeling by comparing parameters of the rainfall-runoff model using HWSD with the detailed soil map. For this, Grid based Rainfall-runoff Model (GRM) was employed in the Hyangseok watershed. The results showed that both of two soil maps in the rainfall-runoff model are able to well capture the observed runoff. However, compared with the detailed soil map, HWSD produced more uncertainty in the GRM parameters related to soil depth and hydraulic conductivity during the calibrations than the detailed soil map. Therefore, the uncertainty from the limited information on soil texture in HWSD should be considered for better calibration of a rainfall-runoff model.

The land use changes from non-urban areas to urban areas lead to the increased impervious areas, consequently increased direct runoff and higher peak runoff. Urban areas have also been recognized as significant sources of Nonpoint Source (NPS) pollution, while agricultural activities have been known as the primary sources of NPS pollution. Many features of the L-THIA/NPS GIS, L-THIA/NPS WWW system have been enhanced to provide easy-to-use system. The L-THIA model was applied to the Little Eagle Creek (LEC) watershed in Indiana to evaluate the accuracy of the model. The L-THIA/NPS GIS estimated yearly direct runoff values match the direct runoff separated from U.S. Geological Survey stream flow data reasonably. The $R^2$ and Nash-Sutcliffe values are 0.67 and 0.60, respectively. The L-THIA estimated runoff volume and total nitrogen loading for each land use classification in the LEC watershed were computed. The estimated runoff volume and total nitrogen loading in the LEC watershed increased by 180% and 270% for the 20 years. Urbanized areas -"Commercial", "High Density Residential", and "Low Density Residential"- of the LEC watershed made up around 68% of the 1991 total land areas, however contributed more than 92% of average annual runoff and 86% of total nitrogen loading. Therefore, it is essential to consider the impacts of land use change on hydrology and water quality in land use planning of urbanizing watershed.nning of urbanizing watershed.

This study is to apply QuickBird satellite image for the simulation of storm runoff in a small rural watershed. For a $1.05km^2$ watershed located in Goesan-Gun of Chungbuk Province, the land use from the QuickBird image was produced by on-screening digitising after ortho-rectifying using 2 m DEM. For 3 cases of land use, soil and elevation scale (1:5,000, 1:25,000 and 1:50,000), SCS-CN and the watershed physical parameters were prepared for the storm runoff model, HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Modelling System). The model was evaluated for each case and compared the simulated results with couple of selected storm events.
