The purpose of this study is to estimate the design flood runoff for ungaged forest watershed to reduce the flood damage in national park. Daewonsa watershed in Jirisan National Park was selected as study watershed, of which characteristic factors were obtained from GIS data. Flood runoff was simulated using SCS unit hydrograph module in HEC-HMS model. SCS Curve Number (CN) was calculated from forest type area weighted average method. Huff's time distribution of second-quartile storm of the Sancheong weather station, which is nearest from study watershed, was used for design flood runoff estimation. Critical storm duration for the study watershed was 3 hrs. Based on the critical duration, the peak runoff for each sub-watershed were simulated. It is recommended to monitor the long-term flow data for major stream stations in National Park for a better reliable peak runoff simulation results.

Watershed topographical information is required in hydrologic analysis, supporting efficient hydrologic model operation and managing water resources. Watershed topographical data extraction systems based on desktop GIS are abundant these days placing burdens for spatial data processing on users. This paper describes development of a Web-based Geographic Information Systems that can delineate the Geum River sub-basins and extract watershed topographical data in real time. Through this system, users can obtain a watershed boundary by selecting outlet location and then extracting topographical data including watershed area, boundary length, average altitude, slope distribution about the elevation range with Web browsers. Moreover, the system provides watershed hydrological data including land use, soil types, soil drainage conditions, and NRCS(Natural Resources Conservation Service) curve number for hydrologic model operation through grid overlay technique. The system operability was evaluated with the hydrological data of WAMIS(Water Management Information System) with the government operation Web site as reference data.
Big Cyprus watershed, which is located in the Southwestern Florida and covers Everglades National Park that has high proportions of endangered species' habitats, plays an important role for the entire Florida ecosystem. Due to the rapid urbanization and high population growth, however, the watershed has been continuously polluted and the current regional watershed plan is not created to accommodate the speed of growth. The purpose of this study is to suggest proper protection policies and strategies for the Big Cyprus watershed by employing the Inverse Distance Weighted interpolation tool in Geographic Information System. The findings show that conservation priorities should be given in the North and South portion of the watershed area, which are proven to be the most important aisle for the habitats in the Big Cyprus. The study concludes with policy suggestions that local environmental planners should concentrate for adopting their new watershed plan in the near future.
This study reviewed a recently developed environmental education model 'ENVISION' and analyzed the value of the ENVISION program with environmental education(EE) perspective. Also this study proposed a prototype model of a inquiry-based water environmental education model with watershed concepts as a result of discussion of tills research. In the review of ENVISION, this research followed the theoretical framework of 'Inquiry-Based EE' that was previously proposed by the author. The ENVISION was characterized in tills research as two directions: watershed and scientific inquiry. Tills research argued that the watershed concept has a potentially very good meaning in EE because watershed enables 'holistic' view in EE area, and that the scientific inquiry in ENVISION seeks evidence-based explanation about local watershed environmental problems. That belongs to the scientific inquiry, which is also 'Inquiry-Based EE' and has internal value under EE perspective. Finally, this research proposed a prototype EE model that is about watershed concept, and is based on inquiry as general sense (scientific and insightful inquiries) and 'Environmental Studies for EE, (ESEE)' as the inquiry directions. The proposed model can be said a combination of the watershed concept and inquiry-based EE, and it seems that the model materializes better the EE nature than the ENVISION model.
The watersheds are functional geographical areas that integrate a variety of environmental and ecological processes and human impacts on landscapes. Geographical assessments using GIS recognize the relationship between interdependence of resources and ecological/environmental components in watersheds. They are useful methodology for viable long term natural resource management. This paper performs through the using hydrological analyses, landscape ecological analyses, remote sensing, and GIS. Indicators are items or measures that represent key components of the small watersheds, and they are developed to be evaluated. Some indicators are described that they represent watershed condition and trend as well as focus on physical, biological and chemical properties of small watershed. Also, ecological functions such as stability, resilience, and sensitivity are inferred from them. The model implemented in GIS allows to reflect the ecological and hydrological functioning of watershed. Methodology from image analysis, landscape ecological analysis, spatial interpolation, and numerical process modeling are integrated within GIS to provide assessment for eco-logical/environmental condition. Results are described from the small watershed of Gwynns Falls in Baltimore County and Baltimore City, Maryland, an area of about 66.5 square miles. The small watershed within Gwynns Falls watershed are subject to a number of land-use. But it is predominantly urban, with significantly lesser amounts of forest and agriculture. The increasing urbanization is ass-coiated with ecological/environmental impacts and citizen conflicts.

The constituents of a watershed control a wide range of ecosystem processes, such as, carbon sequestration, nutrient retention, and biodiversity preservation. Maintenance of a healthy watershed is advantageous to humans in many direct and indirect ways. Dissolved organic matter fluorescence analysis is one of the most commonly utilized parameters for water quality measurement, pollution source tracking, and determination of the ecological state of a watershed. Throughout the recent decades, the advancement in data processing, instrumentation, and methods has resulted in many improvements in the area of watershed study with fluorescence analysis. The current trend of coupling advanced instrumentations and new comparative parameters, such as, microplastics of different types, antibiotics, and specific bacterial contaminants have been reported in watershed studies. However, conventional methodologies for obtaining fluorescence excitation emission matrices and for calculating the fluorescence and spectral indices are preferred to advanced methods, due to their easiness and simple data collection. This review aims to gain a general understanding of the use of dissolved organic matter fluorescence analysis for diagnosis and source identification of watershed pollutions, by focusing on how the studies have utilized fluorescence analysis to improve existing knowledge and techniques in recent years.

The purpose of this study is to understand the relation between the land use status in watersheds and stream turbidity. Major water quality components (flow rate, turbidity, SS, BOD, TN, TP, etc.) of two streams (Jaun and Naerin) and the land use status for each correspondent watershed have been analyzed through the field sampling and the geographical overlaying of land use and watershed map. The detailed results of this study showed that; turbidity has been increased rapidly from 1.9 to 13.0 NTU for Jaun Stream, 0.4 to 0.7 NTU for Naerin Stream, due to the increased flow rate during the period of June. The agricultural area of the Jaun watershed was $13.5km^2$ (10.1% of the overall watershed), comparing to $2.0km^2$(1.4%) of upper watershed of Naerin stream. The forest was widely distributed along the 30m buffering zone from the center of Naerin stream, which comprised 64.14% of the whole watershed area. But in case of the Jaun, the ratio of forest was 17.84%, while the ratio of farming field was 30.33%.
This paper double-bound dichotomous choice method as a contingent valuation methods is used to derive willingness to pay for the water quality at the Anyangcheon watershed. The linear random utility model show that value of improvement of the Anyangcheon watershed water quality is 4,930 won per house and month of the Seoul and Gyeong-gi area residents. There is no difference between Seoul and Gyeong-gi area residents. Respondents overall accepted the contingent market and were willing to contribute a significant amount (3,860 to 5,101 won), on average, per household per month. The aggregate value of the water quality improvement in the Anyangcheon watershed amounts to approximately 83.0 to 109.7 billion won per year. This study is expected to contribute to the decision-making process for policy-makers by providing useful methodological framework and quantitative information related to watershed improvement projects.

This study introduces a model of territorial analysis on Chungcheongnam-do Nonsan-chun valley area, which gives an example of a method of selecting the management area for non-point pollution source from land use to help eliminate its source. High discharge load per unit area signify high level of land ratio with high level of basic unit of development load (including factory sites, school sites, roadways), which mean that there are a significant level of urbanization. It is these areas with the examination of the water quality of the nearby river that should be considered as the management area for non-point pollution source. Thus, the management area for non-point pollution source should be sought in areas with high discharge load per unit area and high density of water pollution area. When level of drainage is high the pollution density level is relatively lower, and when the level of drainage is low the density level is relatively higher. The level of pollution from non-point pollution source is much lower with more water flowing through. The possible non-point pollution source areas that were selected with these standards were then examined with the distance from the river, the slope angle, land usage, elevation, BOD discharge density load, T-N discharge density load, T-P discharge density load, and were given a level one through five. Out of the possible areas Nonsan-si Yeonmu-eup Anshim-li was the densest area, and it was given level one. The level one area should be examined further with the field analysis to be selected as the actual management area for non-point pollution source.

Analysis of fish farm influences on stream water quality may provide basic informations on watershed management to reduce environmental impact due to fish farm development and to conserve stream water quality in forested watershed area. In this research stream water qualities around Mt. Baegun area were monitored seasonally for three years. Due to the increase of pH in effluent water from the fish farm it was believed that alkalization of stream water can be accelerated by large scale development of fish farms in the forested watershed area. As a result of regression analyses, the linear equation of pH of influent and effluent water of fish farm was, pH of effluent water of fish farm = $0.6234{\times}pH$ of influent water of fish farm + 2.6263. Also, the linear equation of electrical conductivity of influent and effluent water of fish farm was electrical conductivity of effluent water of fish farm = $1.7275{\times}$electrical conductivity of influent water of fish farm - 14.007. Negative effects on stream water quality were observed by indications of increase in electrical conductivity and water temperature of effluent water from the fish farm. Decreases in physicochemical indices such as the amount of dissolved oxygen, total amount of cation and total amount of anion in effluent water from the fish farm were also negative aspects in downstream ecology. It is recommended that water purification system as well as environmentally-friendly fish farm design should be incorporated to large scale fish farm development plan in forested watershed area.
