The $2^{nd}$ generation ice accretion analysis program has been developed and validated for various icing conditions. The essential feature of the $2^{nd}$ generation code lies in its capability of handling general 3-D geometry and improved accuracy. The entire velocity fields are obtained based on Navier-Stokes equations in order to take the massively separated flow field into account. Unlike $1^{st}$ generation code, the droplet trajectories are calculated using Eulerian approach, which is adopted to yield appropriate collection efficiency even in the shadow region. For improved thermodynamic analysis on the surfaces, water film model and modified Messinger model are newly included in the present analysis. The ice shape for a given time step is obtained by considering the exact amount of ice accreted on the surface. Each module of the icing analysis code has been seamlessly integrated on the OpenFOAM platform. The developed code was validated against available experimental data for 2D airfoils and 3D DLR-F4. Due to the lack of experimental data, the computed results of DLR-F4 were compared with those obtained from FENSAP-ICE, which is state-of-the-art 3D icing analysis code. It was clearly shown that the present code produces comparable results to those of FENSAP-ICE, in terms of prediction accuracy and the capability of handling general 3-D geometries.

Hyperthermal ion scattering experiments were conducted with low kinetic energy (<35 eV) cesium ion beams to analyze the UV-photolyzed water-ice films. Neutral molecules (X) on the surface were detected as cesium-molecule ion clusters ($CsX^+$) which were formed through a Reactive Ion Scattering (RIS) process. Ionic species on the surface were desorbed from the surface via a low energy sputtering (LES) process, and were analyzed [1]. Using these methods, the thermal stability of hydronium ion ($H_3O^+$) that was produced by UV light was examined. As the thermal stability of $H_3O^+$ is related with the reaction, $H_3O^+$ + OH + $e^-$ (or $OH^-$) ${\rightarrow}$$2H_2O$, which is similar or same with the reverse reaction of the auto-ionization of water, the result from this work would be helpful to understand the auto-ionization of $H_2O$ in water-ice that has not been well-understood yet. However, as $H_3O^+$ was not detected through a LES method, the titration experiment of $H_3O^+$ with methylamine ($CH_3NH_2$, MA), MA + $H_3O^+\;{\rightarrow}\;MAH^+$ + $H_2O$, was conducted. In this case, the presence of $MAH^+$ indicates that of $H_3O^+$ in the ice. Thus the pristine ice was photolyzed with UV light for a few minutes and this photolyzed ice was remained at the certain temperature for minutes without UV light. Then MA was adsorbed on that surface so that the population of $H_3O^+$ was found. From the calibration experiments, the relation of $MAH^+$ and $H_3O^+$ was found, so that the thermal stability of $H_3O^+$ can be investigated [2].

Buoyancy-assisted melting of an unconstrained ice in an isothermally heated horizontal enclosure was numerically analyzed in a range of wall temperatures encompassing the density inversion point. The problem as posed here involves two physically distinct domains each of which has its own scales and respective heat transfer mode. These two domains join at the junction where the liquid squeezed out of the film region flushes into the lower melt pool. Both of these domains have been treated separately in the literature by a patching technique which invokes several, otherwise unnecessary, assumptions. The present study eliminates successfully such a superfluous procedure by treating the film and lower melt pool regions as a single domain. As a result of this efficient solution procedure, the interaction of the water stream ejected at the junction and the natural convection in the melt pool could be clarified for different wall temperatures. Though limited by two-dimensionality, the present results conformed indirectly the earlier reported transition of the flow pattern, as the wall temperature was increased over the density inversion point. The transient evolution of the melting surface, the time rate of change in melt volume fraction, the local and temporal variation of the heat transfer coefficients are analyzed and presented.

Ammonium ion (${NH_4}^+$) was suggested as the origin of interstellar $6.85\;{\mu}m$ band. Early study, in which organic molecule and water ice film mixtures were photolyzed so that organic acids could be produced, explained the generation of ${NH_4}^+$ from the reaction of photogenerated organic acid and ammonia ($NH_3$). However, the observed abundance of organic acids or their counter-anions are not so high in interstellar ice and not enough to protonate $NH_3$ into ${NH_4}^+$ in the observed level. Because of the shortage in photogenerated organic acids, the candidate of acid which protonates $NH_3$ should be modified. Here, we prepare $NH_3/H_2O$ binary mixtures and photolyze them with vacuum ultraviolet (VUV, peak at 10.6 and 10.0 eV). We find the ammonium ion (${NH_4}^+$) from photolyzed mixture by using low energy sputtering (LES) and reflection absorption IR spectroscopy (RAIRS). As a hydronium ($H_3O^+$) can be produced by UV irradiation and protonate bases, ${NH_4}^+$ may be formed from the reaction of photogenerated $H_3O^+$ and $NH_3$. We show the generation of ${NH_4}^+$ without any kind of organic molecules or acids, and it may explain the relatively high abundance of ${NH_4}^+$ compared to the counter-anions or organic acids in interstellar ice.

Water molecules on a Ru(0001) surface are anomalously acidic compared to bulk water. The observation was made by conducting reactive ion scattering, reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed desorption measurements for the adsorption of ammonia onto a water layer formed on Ru(0001). The study shows that the water molecules in the first intact $H_2O$ bilayer spontaneously release a proton to NH3 adsorbates to produce $NH_4{^+}$. However, such proton transfer does not occur for $H_2O$, OH, and H in a mixed adsorption layer or for $H_2O$ in a thick ice film surface.
PET/BPA copolymer of terephthalic acid, bisphenol-A and ethylene glycol was melt-pressed and quenched in ice water. This copolymer film was drawn by capillary rheometer. Shrinkage, crystallinity, morphology, thermal, dynamic mechanical, and mechanical properties of these copolymer films were investigated. The PET/BPA copolymer film exhibited T$_{m}$ lower than that of PET film. The crystallinity and density of these drawn copolymer films increased with draw ratio and draw rate but decreased with draw temperature. The tensile strength and tensile modulus of the copolymer films increased with draw ratio but decreased with draw temperature. Shrinkage of the drawn copolymer film decreased with draw ratio and draw rate.e.

Recently, LPLi(Liquied-Phase LPG injection) system is studied for the new stringent emission regulations. But , there are some problems to be solved such as injector tip icing and fuel leakage for LPLi system development. In this paper, the icing problem near injector tip which leads to difficulty of accurate A/F control was studied and reported. Icing of injector tip and port wall was observed at all the cases in this study regardless of injection duration and angle, air humidity change. The spray angle of LPLi was observed approximately two times wider than that of Gasoline injection. This makes the LPLi spray collide with intake port around injector tip. Temperature of the wetted area was decreased and icing of water vapor contained in intake air because of evaporation of the fuel film. The ice of the injector tip and port wall is also affected by the materials related to heat transfer.
We show that a combined technique of Cs$^{+}$ reactive ion scattering (Cs$^{+}$ RIS) and low-energy secondary ion mass spectrometry (LESIMS) provides a powerful means for probing molecular films and their surface reactions. Simple molecules, including HCI, NH$_3$, D$_2$O, and their mixtures, were deposited into a thin film of several monolayer thickness on Ru(001) at low temperature in vacuum, and the surface was characterized by Cs$^{+}$ RIS and LESIMS. On pure films, D$_2$O, HCI, and NH$_3$ existed in the corresponding molecular states. When HCI and NH$_3$ were co-deposited, ammonium ion(NH$_4$$^{+}$) was readily formed by proton transfer from HCI to NH$_3$. In the presence of water molecules, HCI ionized first to hydronium ion(H$_3$O$^{+}$), which subsequently transferred proton to NH$_3$ to form NH$_4$$^{+}$. The proton transfer, however, did not occur to a completion on ice, in contrast to the complete reaction in aqueous solutions.s solutions.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the microstucture and hardness, corrosion of pure Ti alloy, which is widely used as partial denture frame work these days, depending on the cooling method, followed by casting. The first group was bench cooling at room temperature($18^{\circ}C$), the second group was slowly cooled in the furnace from $700^{\circ}C$ to room temperature, and third. rapidly cooled in $0^{\circ}C$ water. The microstructure of each specimen observed by means of photomicrograph taken by electron microscope, in add to the physical characteristics of each specimen were obtained using the rockwell Hardnest Number. the characteristics of corrosion. The results were obtained as follows: 1. From Potentiodynamic plot. we conclude furnace-cooled specimen had the best stabiltity of passive film and that air-cooled specimen showed similar characteristics. The density of electric current of quenched specimen was the highest, which formed kind of unstable passive film. 2. Specimen cooled at room temperature (air cooling) had the highest value of hardness of 81.26HRB, specimen cooled at ice-water, $0^{\circ}C$, had the value of 78.42HRB, and specimen furnace-cooled at $700^{\circ}C$ had lowest value of 77.1HRB. 3. Quenching treated micro-structure formed martensite structure by and large. In case of air cooling, we could see $\alpha$-structure widmanstatten formed overall. In furnace cooling, widmanstatten structure and various shape $\alpha$-structures forming colony with direction were detected.
