  • Inorganic/organic composite was synthesized by using sol-gel process, and the bonding characteristics of composite was investigated with glass transition temperature(Tg), measured by DMTA(Dynamic Mechanical Thermal Analyzer). It was found from shift of Tg to higher temperature that composite reaction was proceeded better with the amount of HCl and water. But Tg was not varied with reaction time.

  • Glass in the ZrO2-SiO2 system containing up to 30mol% ZrO2 were prepared by heating the gel made from the mixed solutions of Zr(OC3H7)4 and partial hydrolysed Si(OC2H5)4. As a result, the monolith gel was made from the HCl and water content as 2.7$\times$10-3 and 8 molar ratio to alkoxide and drying temoperature as 4$0^{\circ}C$. Heating rate of dry gel maintained under 0.5$^{\circ}C$/min and heating at a temperature as 90$0^{\circ}C$ was found to be for making the transparent glass.

  • For $Na_2O-BaO-SiO_2$ system glass the pelletizing conditions of the disk type equipment were investigated. The effects of the pelletized batch on melting were also examined. Through the experiment the optimum conditions for pelletizing the batch were found as follows. Revolving speed of the pan 30rpm pan angle 40-35 degree Water content 12-13% Drying temperature $200^{\circ}C$ Preheating temperature $650^{\circ}C$ The molten glass of the pelletized batch was refined better than that of the loose batch.

  • The effect of diameter of rods or fibers on contact angle was studied in a vertical rod configuration. A contact angle measuring device described in the previous paper was optimized for the measurement of small-diameter fibers. It was shown that contact angles of water and hexadecane on nylon 6 monofilsments and glass rods increased with decrease of diameter below a critical diameter, which varied from one system to another. Beyond the critical value, contact angle of the liquid on the vertical glass rod reached to an equilibrium value which is equal to the unique value of the contact angle of the liquid drop on the horizontal glass plate.

  • 4 types rubber related geosynthetics were manufactured to examine the performance to for applications to the civil and geotechnical fields, especially to the road construction. Reinforcement and water barrier function of these geosynthetics were interpreted as the important properties. Fiber glass mat based and geogrid based geosynthetics showed the excellent mechanical properties as. Also elastomeric bitumen based geosynthetic showed the highest permittivity. From this, it i s thought that this geosynthetic is suitable for water barrier under specific load condition.

  • In this study, the behavior of deteriorated concrete columns under sea-water before and after strengthening with glass fiber composite and the change of behavior by the deterioration of strengthening material are analyzed. In the analysis, the characteristics of concrete deteriorated in sea-water, preloading effect, and corrosion of steel are considered. The result of analysis is verified by the comparison with the experimental data. Using constitutive equations of the concrete and corroded steel, load-moment interaction curves of both deteriorated and strengthened concrete column are derived.

  • Basic research on the formation of monolithic glasses from metal alkoxide has been done concerning gelling of silicon alkoxides and dehydration of those gells. The felling time were increased with increasing of Carbon number of alkyl radical of alkoxide and am-ount of water and the lower pH value of water. Large portions of water and organic materials were rem-oved below 25$0^{\circ}C$ and shrinkage of glass took place above 80$0^{\circ}C$ Therefore heating up to 25$0^{\circ}C$ and above 75$0^{\circ}C$ must be done gradually with rate of 0.5$^{\circ}C$/min.

  • The purpose of the present work is to investigate the removal characteristics of positively charged filters for capturing negatively charged particles such as bacteria and virus in water. In order to reduce the pressure drop and increase the filtration efficiency, the filter media, modified by charge modifier having positive functional groups, is developed and evaluated. Improved liquid filters have been developed with the modified surface charge to capture and adsorb particles by electrokinetic interaction between the filter surface and particles contained in an aqueous liquid. The positively charged filter media is composed of glass fiber, cellulose and poly-ethylenimine resin for positively charging with the variation of volume ratio. The zeta potential value of the positively charged filter is +37.92 mV at the glass fiber and cellulose content ratio of 50 : 50 with resin content of 100%, while that of the PSL test particle is -23.5 mV at pH 7. The removal efficiency of the electro-positively charged filter is 98% for PSL particles of 0.11 ${\mu}m$, while that of the negatively charged filter is 7%. The positively charged filter media showed the potential to be an effective method for removing fine particles from the contaminated water for liquid filtration.

  • The necessary and sufficient condition for causality of a physical system can be expressed as Kramers-Kr$\ddot{o}$nig (K-K) relation. K-K relation for acoustic wave is a Hilbert transforms pair between dispersion equations of phase speed and attenuation. In this study, we quantitatively compare the acoustic measurements in water-saturated glass beads for the frequency ranges from 400 kHz to 1.1 MHz with the predictions of differential form of K-K relation obtained by Waters et al. For media with attenuation obeying an arbitrary frequency power law, acoustic measurements show good agreements with the predictions of Kramers-Kr$\ddot{o}$nig relation.

  • Traditional doenjang was fermented in different vessels, and its quality characteristics were investigated during ripening. Fermentation vessels used were dark brown glaze pot, dark brown glaze pot with glass lid and plastic box. Water content of doenjang decreased during fermentation, with doenjang pepared in dark brown glaze pot with glass lid showed the highest water content reduction. Water-soluble nitrogen content $(4.56{\sim}5.80%)$ was the highest at 8 months fermentation and amino type nitrogen content continuously increased until 12 months, with doenjang in dark brown glaze pot higher than those in plastic box. Sensory evaluation revealed the quality of doenjang fermented in plastic box was significantly lower than others after 4 months.
