The purpose of this research is to analyze the characteristics of flow rate distribution in hot-water piping networks in the apartment building. A 14-story apartment house was selected as a sample building and analyzed numerically by Hardy-Cross method. Two different piping networks, one has three vertical zones and the other of a single zone with automatic balancing valves, were compared. Some of research results are as follows; As the temperature of supply hot-water increases, the flow rate of it does by buoyancy effect, but this effect is not found in the piping network with automatic balancing valves. Non-uniformity in hot-water flow distributions to all stories in the piping system of single vertical zone can be completely reformed by the installation of either manually operated or automatic balancing valves in every story.
An effective heat transfer during freezing process was proposed in the vertical cylinder to improve the effectiveness of the heat storage. Vertical cylinder was filled with pure water in order to investigate ice-shape, temperature distribution of the liquid, temperature distribution of the cylinder tube wall, total heat storage per unit mass in the test section under the two experimental conditions; inlet temperature of working fluid is constant($-10^{\circ}C$) and inlet direction of working fluid is either upward flow or downward. Both the mean temperature of the liquid and temperature difference of cylinder tube wall in the upward were lower than those in the downward. In case that the initial temperature of water was $7^{\circ}C$ and $4^{\circ}C$, the shape of ice layer in the upward was more uniform than that in the downward. In case of $1^{\circ}C$, the shape of ice layer is formed by inlet direction of working fluid. Finally, time-varying total heat energy stored in the water in the upward was higher than that in the downward.

In this study, mixing and dilution characteristics of vertical multijet discharged by multiport diffuser into stagnant water are investigated. The results obtained from the experiment of multiport diffuser performed in the three dimensional flume are as follows. As far as merging process of multiport diffuser is concerned, merging starts at about z/l = 3 although merging length is dependent upon stability condition and thereafter lateral temperature distribution becomes gradually uniform which is typical distribution of plane jet. Analyses of experimental data for minimum dilution show that characteristics of minimum dilution are described based on three regions which are jet region where momentum is dominated, intermediate region, and plume region where buoyancy is dominated. Minimum dilution coefficient in plume region of multiport diffuser obtained in this study is 15% higher than that of plane diffuser. This is because individual jet of multiport diffuser entrains more ambient water before merging is occurred, and therefore dilution increases.
This study on the southern coastal waters of Korea has been made by analysis of NOAA image and oceanographic observation data from October 1987 to August 1988. The results obtained from the study are as follow: Horizontal distributions of water temperature in different layers in winter ranged from 6.07 to 18.62$^{\circ}C$ at 0m layer, 6.02 to 18.54$^{\circ}C$ at 30m layer and 7.19 to 18.69$^{\circ}C$ at 50m layer. Consequently its vertical distribution showed homogeneity. Horizontal water temperature gradients were 0.28$^{\circ}C$/mile between the coastal waters and Tsushima warm waters. In summer, its horizontal distribution varied from 19.37 to 29.92$^{\circ}C$ at 0m layer, 13.26 to 27.11$^{\circ}C$ at 30m layer and 7.36 to 26.6$0^{\circ}C$ at 50m layer, and its vertical profile showed stratified structure. Vertical water temperature gradients were 0.44$^{\circ}C$/m between 30 and 50m layers. It was remarkable that distribution of southern coastal water system analysed by NOAA image coincided with relatively the oceanographic observation data but SST from NOAA image seemed to be 2-4$^{\circ}C$ lower in winter and 4-6$^{\circ}C$ lower in summer than the oceanographic data.
Biogeochemical processes in groundwater-stream water mixing zone are recently of great interest because biodegradation and natural attenuation of aquatic contaminants may occur through the processes. The objectives of this study are to investigate the hydrologic and biogeochemical processes at the groundwater-stream water mixing zone through which surface water-driven nitrate may be naturally attenuated, and to examine the effect of the vertical flow exchange flux on biogeochemical processes using correlation analysis. To examine the direction of vertical water flow in the zone, vertical hydraulic gradients were measured at several depths using mini-piezometers. Microbial populations in soil samples of the zone were also analyzed by means of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Cloning methods. In addition, partial correlations among vertical flow exchange, nitrate concentration and microbial activity was investigated to examine their mutual interaction. The results showed the significant interaction among the three parameters, resulting in natural attenuation of nitrate. This study showed an example of the biogeochemical fuction of groundwater-stream water mixing zone, which can be predictable from the examination of the interaction among microbial activities, concentration of contamination and vertical flow exchange flux. temperature show a significant difference in adjacent streambed, Also, the results shows that distribution of temperature was more affected by groundwater direction than intensity of flux.

This paper described on relation between the catches of tuna and the distribution of water temperature of eastern fishing ground of Tropical region in the Pacific Ocean. The data of catches and water temperature used in this paper were based log book which # 27 CHENG RONG(Gross tonnage : 399 ton) had been worked eastern fishing ground(Lat : 09$^{\circ}$N- 14$^{\circ}$S, Long : 115$^{\circ}$- 149$^{\circ}$W)from January to October, 1991. The obtained result are as follows : 1. On the relation between the catches and the geographical distribution, bigeye tuna was higher catches at Lat 4$^{\circ}$- 9$^{\circ}$N, Long 135$^{\circ}$- 139$^{\circ}$W area in the equatorial counter current region where surface water temperature was range of 27.5$^{\circ}C$ to 27.9$^{\circ}C$, yellowfin tuna was higher catches at Lat 4$^{\circ}$- 9$^{\circ}$S, Long 145$^{\circ}$- 149$^{\circ}$W in the south equatorial current region where surface water temperature was range of 28.$0^{\circ}C$ to 28.4$^{\circ}C$ and albacore tuna was higher catches at Lat 10$^{\circ}$- 14$^{\circ}$S, Long 120$^{\circ}$- 124$^{\circ}$W area in the south equatorial current region where surface temperature was range of 26.5$^{\circ}C$ to 26.9$^{\circ}C$ 2. On the relation between catches and distribution of vertical water temperature, bigeye tuna was higher catches at the water temperature of 1$0^{\circ}C$ to 12$^{\circ}C$ on depth layer between 300m and 360m, yellowfin tuna was higher catches at the water temperature of 15$^{\circ}C$ to 19$^{\circ}C$ on depth layer between 180m and 280m and albacore tuna was higher catches at the water temperature of 12$^{\circ}C$ to 14$^{\circ}C$ on depth layer between 280m and 310m. Above the result, it seemed that bigeye tuna distributed deeper layer than yellowfin and albacore tuna.
While many astrophysical disks are vertically stratified and obey a polytropic equation of state, most studies on gravitational instability (GI) of flattened systems consider isothermal, razor-thin disks by taking vertical averages of disk properties. We investigate local GI of rotating pressure-confined polytropic disks with resolved vertical stratification by performing linear stability analysis. We find that the GI of vertically-stratified disks is in general a combination of conventional razor-thin Jeans modes and incompressible modes. The incompressible modes that dominate in the limit of the maximal disk compression require surface distortion and are an unstable version of terrestrial water waves. Disks with a steeper equation of state are found to be more Jeans unstable because they tend to have a smaller vertical scale height as well as a steeper temperature gradient corresponding to lower pressure support. GI depends more sensitively on the vertical temperature than density distribution. The density-weighted, harmonic mean, rather than the simple mean, of the adiabatic sound speed well describes the dispersion relation of horizontal modes, and thus is appropriate in the expression for Toomre Q stability parameter of razor-thin disks. We generalize Q into vertically-stratified disks, and discuss astrophysical application of our work.
We investigated species composition and spatial distribution of the euphausiid community in the Yellow Sea and identified the relationship with environmental factors (temperature, salinity, chlorophyll $\alpha$, nitrate, phosphate, and silicate) using bimonthly data from June, 1997 to April, 1998. The environment varied during the sampling period. In warm seasons, thermocline was well developed rendering lower temperature and higher salinity and nutrient concentrations in the bottom layer. During cold seasons the water column was well mixed and no such vertical stratification was noted. Horizontal distribution of temperature, however, differed slightly between near-coast and offshore areas because of the shallow depth of the Yellow Sea, and between southern and northern areas because of the intrusion of water masses such as Yellow Sea Warm Current and Changjiang River Diluted Water. Four euphausiid species were identified: Euphausia pacifica, E. sanzoi, Pseudeuphausia sp. and Stylocheron affine. E. sanzoi and S. affine were collected, just one juvenile each, from the southern area in June and December, respectively. Pseudeuphausia sp. were collected in the eastern area all the year round except June. E. pacifica occurred at the whole study area and were the predominant species, representing at least 97.6% of the euphausiid abundance. Further, the distribution pattern of the species was varied in regards to developmental stages (adult, furcilia, calyptopis, egg). From spring to fall, E. pacifica adults were abundant in the central area where the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water prevailed. Furcilia and calyptopis extended their distribution into nearly all the study area during the same period. From late fall to winter, adults were found at the near-coastal are a with similar pattern for furcilia and calyptopis. The distribution pattern of E. pacifica was consistent regarding temperature, salinity, and three nutrients during the sampling period, whereas chlorophyll $\alpha$ showed a different pattern according to the developmental stages. The nutrients should indirectly affect via chlorophyll $\alpha$ and phytoplankton concentration. With respect to these results, we presented a scenario about how the environmental factors along with the water current affect the distribution of E. pacifica in the Yellow Sea.
In order to investigate the distribution of suspended particulate matter of the surface water in the South Sea of Korea in early winter, the cruise results during 2 to 8 December 2004 were analyzed in relation to the hydrography. The front was formed along the line connecting between Tsushima and Cheju Islands, which divided the water into two water masses; the coastal water with for temperature and for salinity, and the Tsushima Warm Current Water with high temperature and high salinity. In the coastal water the suspended particulte matter was 5.0-6.5 mg/l, while in the oceanic water suspended particulate matter was 4.5-5.0 mg/l. The coastal water showed higher mixing effects, compared to the oceanic area where vertical stratification was clearly formed. These indicate that the distribution of suspended particulate matter was affected by the stratification or mixing of the water column. Also it is suggested that the mixing effects of sea surface cooling and rind play an important role on the distribution of suspended particulate matter in the South Sea of Korea in winter time.

Dispersion characteristics of surface discharge heat water in shallow region are investigated for coastal power plant with nearly constant depth of 20 meters by observing the seasonal depthwide temperature in several stations, which give or precise horizontal distribution and vertical structure of heat water. Surface discharged heat water in shallow coast in the Yellow Sea relies mainly on ambient tidal flow. so it behaves as free jet when the ambient now is strong and shows plumelike behavior during stagnant tide. According to observation the neat field region is estimated as 200-300 meters and shows distinct vertical profile and exponentially decreasing pattern from discharge point for this region. But there are no remarkable vertical distortion of temperature beyond 800 meters even though it is discharged from surface. Characteristic length scale model, CORMIX3, is applied and compared with the field date Overall tendency of CORMIX3 results resemble well with field data especially in near field and intermediate region.
