FASs로 코팅한 무기막에 대한 부탄올/물, 이소프로판올/물 용액의 수착 특성 (Sorption Characteristics of Butanol/Water and Isopropanol/Water Solutions on the FASs Coated Inorganic Membrane)

  • FASs (fluoroalkylsilanes)로 표면 개질한 소수성 막에 대한 부탄올/물, 이소프로판올/물 용액의 수착(sorption)량을 측정하였으며 이들 수착 특성을 Hansen 용해도 파라미터를 이용하여 해석하였다. 부탄올의 수착량이 이소프토판올보다 많았으며, 이는 부탄올의 용해도 파라미터(${\delta}_t=20.4$)와 FASs 소수성 막의 용해도 파라미터(${\delta}_t=16.9$)와의 차이가 이소프로판올 (${\delta}_t=24.6$)과의 차이보다 작기 때문인 것으로 설명할 수 있다. 극성력(${\delta}_p$) 측면에서 살펴보면, FASs 극성력(${\delta}_p=4.6$)과 부탄올의 극성력(${\delta}_p=6.3$)과의 차이가 FASs 극성력(${\delta}_p=4.6$)과 이소프로판올의 극성력(${\delta}_p=9.0$)과의 차이보다 작다. 이는 부탄올-FASs 간의 극성력 차이가 이소프로판올-FASs 간의 극성력 차이보다 작아서 부탄올-FASs 간의 상호인력이 크다는 것을 의미하며, 수착량이 크게 나타나는 결과를 설명할 수 있다. 본 실험결과로부터 막에 대한 알코올의 수착특성, 용매에 대한 용질의 용해도 등을 분석하는데 용해도 파라미터를 이용할 수 있음을 알 수 있다.

탄소나노튜브(CNT)-PVDF 막을 이용한 자연용존유기물 제거 (Removal of Natural Organic Matter (NOM) by Carbon Nanotubes Modified PVDF Membrane)

  • In this research, the application of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) modified PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) membrane was tested as a simply and beginning attempt to overcome membrane fouling because CNTs importantly affect the transport of natural organic matter (NOM). Suwannee River fulvic acid (SRFA) as the representative of NOM was selected and its sorption results with single-walled CNT (SWCNT), multi-walled CNT (MWCNT), and oxidized MWCNT (O-MWCNT) were obtained through the batch experiment. SRFA sorption isotherms had a strong nonlinearity and its sorption capacity followed the order O-MWCNT < MWCNT < SWCNT. The adsorbed mass of SRFA on each CNT decreased as a function of pH due to their charge repulsion. For the CNT-PVDF membrane filtration experiments, the suspended CNT solution (10 mg/40 mL) was incorporated into $0.45{\mu}m$-PVDF membrane and 5 mg/L of SRFA solution was monitored using UV detector connected with high pressure pump after passing through CNT-PVDF membrane. The SRFA removal efficiency by MWCNT-PVDF membrane was the strongest among other modified membranes. This suggests that the CNT modified microfiltration (MF) membrane might effectively and selectively apply to treat the contaminated water including organic compounds in the presence of NOM.

Removal of Aluminum from Water Samples by Sorption onto Powdered Activated Carbon Prepared from Olive Stones

  • Recent studies have revealed the poisonous nature of aluminum(III) species to aquatic and terrestrial organisms. Therefore, this investigation aims to develop batch adsorption experiments in the laboratory, aiming to the removal of aluminum(III) from aqueous solutions onto powdered activated carbon (PAC). The latter (which is an effective and inexpensive sorbent) was prepared from olive stones generated as plant wastes and modified with an aqueous modifying oxidizing agent, viz. $HNO_3$. The main parameters (i.e. initial solution pH, sorbent and $Al^{3+}$ ions concentrations, stirring times and temperature) influencing the sorption process were examined. The results obtained revealed that the sorption of $Al^{3+}$ ions onto PAC is endothermic in nature and follows first-order kinetics. The adsorption data were well described by the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) adsorption models over the concentration range studied. Under the optimum experimental conditions employed, the removal of ca. 100% $Al^{3+}$ ions in the concentration range $1.35-2.75\;mg{\cdot}l^{-1}$ was attained. Moreover, the procedure was successfully applied to the recovery of aluminum spiked to some environmental water samples with an RSD (%), does not exceed 1.22%.

  • 스티렌-무수말레인산 공중합체로 가교된 PVA막을 용액법으로 제조하였다. 투과증발공정에서 가교된 PVA/ PSMAn막에 대한 분리거동을 연구하기 위해 30~90 wt % 에탄올-물 혼합 조성에서 막에 대한 팽윤 및 수착 실험을 막내부로 수착되는 용액의 양과 조성을 측정할 수 있는 장치를 이용하여 수행하였다. 본 연구에서 제조된 막의 경우, 수착과 투과단계에서 물에 대해 좋은 선택성을 나타냈고, 공급액의 농도 50 wt % 이상에서 막의 투과선택도는 가교제의 함량에 따른 팽윤비 변화보다 수착선택도와 보다 많은 상관 관계를 나타내었다. 이러한 거동을 투과 선택도와 수착선택도과 관련된 용해-확산 모델로 고찰한 결과, 투과선택도는 막 내에서의 확산단계에서 보다 오히려 수착단계에서 결정됨을 결론지을 수 있다.

Sorption of Np(IV) on MX-80 in Ca-Na-Cl Type Reference Water of Crystalline Rock

  • The pH dependence of sorption distribution coefficient (Kd) of Np(IV) on MX-80 in Ca-Na-Cl type solution with the ionic strength of 0.3 M, which was similar to one of the reference groundwaters in crystalline rock, was experimentally investigated under the reducing conditions. The overall trend of Kd on MX-80 was independent of pH at 5 ≤ pH ≤ 10 but increased as pH increased at pH ≤ 5. The 2-site protolysis non-electrostatic surface complexation and cation exchange model was applied to the experimentally measured pH dependence of Kd and the optimized surface complexation constants of Np(IV) sorption on MX-80 were estimated. The values of surface complexation constants in this work agreed relatively well with those in the Na-Ca-Cl solution previously evaluated, suggesting that compared to Na+, the competition of Ca2+ with Np(IV) for surface complexation on MX-80 was not much strong in Ca-Na-Cl solution. The sorption model well predicted the pH dependence of Kd values but slightly overestimated the sorption at the low pH region.

Desorption-Resistance of Hydrophobic Organic Compounds in Natural Soils

  • Sorption/desorption Study was conducted to determine desorption-resistance hydrophobic organic compounds in natural soils with low organic carbon content. Sorption/desorption characteristics of chlorobenzene and phenanthrene for both PPI (Petro Processors, Inc. Superfund site) and BM (Bayou Manchac), soils were investigated. Desorption was biphasic including reversible and desorption-resistant compartments. The biphasic sorption parameters indicated the presence of appreciable size of desorption-resistant phase in these soils. A finite maximum capacity of desorption-resistant fraction (equation omitted) was observed after several desorption steps. The apparent organic carbon based Partition coefficient, K(equation omitted) was 10$^{4.92{\pm}0.27}$ for PPI soil and 10$^{4.92{\pm}0.27}$ for BM soil, respectively. The difference in K(equation omitted) was attributed to different characteristics in soil organic matter. The results suggest that desorption-resistance should be considered in remediation and risk assessments in natural soils and sediments.

미세플라스틱 필름의 프로시미돈과 3,5-다이클로로아닐린 흡착 특성 (Sorption Characteristics of Procymidone and 3,5-Dichloroaniline on Microplastic Films)

  • Microplastics are generated by the breakdown of plastic wastes in agricultural soil and residual pesticides in agricultural soil can adsorb on microplastics. In this study, the sorption characteristics of procymidone (PCM) and one of its metabolites, 3,5-dichloroaniline (DCA), on low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) microplastics were investigated. The sorption and desorption tests were carried out for 72 h using LDPE or PVC microplastic films to study the sorption isotherms of PCM and DCA and kinetics for sorption and desorption of PCM. The results show that the sorption data of PCM and DCA were better described by the Freundlich isotherm model (R2=0.7568-0.9915) than the Langmuir isotherm model (R2=0.0545-0.5889). The sorption potential of PVC for both PCM and DCA was greater than that of LDPE. The sorption data of PCM on PVC and LDPE were fitted better to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model than the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The PCM sorption on LDPE was about three times faster than that on PVC. Both microplastic films released the sorbed PCM back to water, and more PCM was released from PVC than LDPE, but the desorption rate was faster with LDPE than PVC. Overall, the results show that different microplastics have different sorption characteristics for different chemicals. Also, the sorbed chemicals can be released back to environment suggesting the potential of contaminant spread by microplastics. Thus, the management practices of microplastics in agricultural soil need to consider their interaction with the chemical contaminants in soil.

파쇄 폐타이어를 이용한 반응벽체에 관한 연구: 폐타이어 내의 MTBE(Methyl tertiary Butyl Ether)흡착 중심 (A Study of Ground Tire as a Sorption Media for the Passive Treatment Wall: Sorption of MTBE (Methyl tertiary Butyl Ether))

  • MTBE(Methyl tertiary Butyl Ether)와 같은 가솔린 연료의 첨가제의 사용은 대기오염물질의 발생을 효과적으로 감소시키지만, 다른 한편으로는 지하저장 시설로부터의 누출로 인해 토양 및 지하수의 오염을 유발할 수 있다. 특히 MTBE는 높은 용해성으로 인해 지하수내에서는 지하수와 함께 광범위하게 오염을 유발할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 MTBE를 대상 물질로 하여 폐타이어를 현장내 오염지하수 정화 공법 중 하나인 반응벽체 공법의 흡착매질로 사용을 평가하기 위해, 회분식 실험을 통해서 크기가 다른 폐타이어의 MTBE흡착 특성을 파악해 보았다. 또한 칼럼 실험을 통해서 이용 효율(Utilization Efficiency)을 구하였다. 1.18mm 이하의 폐타이어의 g당 최대 흡착량은 약 0.5 mg으로 나타났다. Freundlich 등온흡착식을 이용하여 구한 이론 흡착용량과 실제 평균 농도 측정을 한 후 계산된 MTBE의 흡착량을 비교하여 이용 효율을 계산 해본 결과, 지름이 가장 작은 폐타이어가 약 36%,나머지 두 가지 종류의 폐타이어는 각각 15.6%와 16.4%의 효율을 나타내었다. 폐타이어의 처분비용과 재생비용을 고려한다면, 폐타이어의 이용은 경제적, 환경적 측면에서 유익하리라 생각되며, 또한 Air-Sparging이나 Bioremediation과 같은 다른 현장내 공법과 복합적으로 적용된다면, 제거효율 향상과 같은 동반 상승효과(synergy effect)를 기대할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

  • 콩우유 비지를 acetone과 ethyl alcohol로 세척한뒤 $60^{\circ}C$에서 건조시킨 건조비지의 흡습특성(吸濕特性)과 건조비지를 밀가루에 혼합하였을때 수분함량과 수분활성도 간의 관계를 밝히고져 본 연구를 시행하였다. 건조비지는 상대습도(相對濕度)(RH)별(別)로 $20^{\circ}C$에서 저장중 평형 수분함량에 도달하기 전에 과흡습(過吸濕) 경향을 보였으며 저장중의 흡습농도(吸濕溫度)는 모든 RH에서 높은 상관계수를 갖는 log(dw/dt)=b log t+log a의 관계식으로 계산이 가능하였다. 또한 건조비지를 밀가루와 혼합하였을때 등온흡습곡선(等溫吸濕曲線)으로부터 얻어지는 수분함량(Mi)과 수분활성도(Aw)간의 관계는 Mi=b Aw+ a의 직선 관계식을 보여 주었다. 이 식(式)을 타연구자(他硏究者)들이 제안한 식(式)들과 비교할때 실측치(實測値)에 더 유사한 계산값을 보여 본 연구에서 제안한 식(式)이 건조 비지와 밀가루의 혼합물(混合物)에는 적합(適合)한 관계식이라 할 수 있었다.

The influence of nanofillers on the properties of ethanol-solvated and non-solvated dental adhesives

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different concentrations of nanofillers on the chemical and physical properties of ethanol-solvated and non-solvated dental adhesives. Materials and Methods: Eight experimental adhesives were prepared with different nanofiller concentrations (0, 1, 2, and 4 wt%) and 2 solvent concentrations (0% and 10% ethanol). Several properties of the experimental adhesives were evaluated, such as water sorption and solubility (n = 5, 20 seconds light activation), real-time degree of conversion (DC; n = 3, 20 and 40 seconds light activation), and stability of cohesive strength at 6 months (CS; n = 20, 20 seconds light activation) using the microtensile test. A light-emitting diode (Bluephase 20i, Ivoclar Vivadent) with an average light emittance of $1,200mW/cm^2$ was used. Results: The presence of solvent reduced the DC after 20 seconds of curing, but increased the final DC, water sorption, and solubility of the adhesives. Storage in water reduced the strength of the adhesives. The addition of 1 wt% and 2 wt% nanofillers increased the polymerization rate of the adhesives. Conclusions: The presence of nanofillers and ethanol improved the final DC, although the DC of the solvated adhesives at 20 seconds was lower than that of the non-solvated adhesives. The presence of ethanol reduced the strength of the adhesives and increased their water sorption and solubility. However, nanofillers did not affect the water sorption and strength of the tested adhesives.
