피혁슬러지 고형화시 시멘트 혼화제의 영향 (The Effect of Cement Admixtures on Solidification of Tannery Sludge based Cement Method)

  • The cement-based system among S/S(Solidification/Stabilization) is widely used to treat hazardous wastes. In this study, tannery sludge was solidified to evaluate the stabilization effects of using admixtures in the cement-based S/S. Fly ash as substitute also used to increase the strength of the S/S of hazardous waste. The compressive strength measurement and leaching experiment of chromium metal of solidified mortar were carried out to compare and evaluate the physical and chemical characteristics of solidified hazardous waste sludge. From the result of this study, there was increased of compressive strength by using AEW-3(early-hardening AE water reducing agent), and leaching concentration of chromium became low enough to satisfy the regulatory criteria. The successful solidification for the organic contaminant and heavy metal in hazardous waste should enable to treat by cement-based system using early-hardening AE water reducing admixture and fly ash as substituted cement.

새로운 수용성(水溶性) 방부방충제(防腐防蟲劑)의 재중(材中) 정착성(定着性)에 관한 계면전기화학적(界面電氣化學的) 특성(特性) (Surface Electrochemical Study on the Fixation Properties of New Water-borne Preservatives in Red Pine)

  • In order to investigate the extent of fixation of new water-borne preservatives in blocks of pinus densiflora sapwoods the streaming potential through the column with preservative treated wood was measured at various conditions. The rates of leachability of ingredients in the treated wood were estimated by the measurement of electric conductivity of the solution with the leached components. The solution was also analyzed by Atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AA). As a results, the experimental data indicated that the fixation of CCB, CCFZ and ACQ in wood were relatively unstable. The fixation rates of CCB, CCFZ were improved by increasing heat and drying time. The amounts of the leached ingredients were apparently higher in CCB and CCFZ than in CCA, while the rate of leaching of ACQ was not changed at various drying temperature.

  • This paper presents fundamental characteristics of a copper slag when used geotechnical materials. For this study, it was conducted laboratory tests such as compaction, large direct shear, hydraulic conductivity, leaching, TDR, frost heave test and so on. The results of laboratory tests shown gradually increase in draining capacity and shearing resistance more slag mixing. The unfrozen water in temperature changes and frost heave amounts in condition of -17 $^{\circ}C$ appeared to decrease. Also, toxicity tests based on the domestic solid waste regulations were satisfied with nonhazardous. By this research results, a copper slag mixed with granite soil may been used as granular base and embankment materials, fill etc.

  • To evaluate the potential capacity of mine wastes in the production of heavy metal containing acid water, samples from depths of 0, 30 and 60cm were collected and analyzed. The waste from surface showed the lowest pH which indicates the oxidation of wastes and the capacity of contamination of the area around the waste file. And the lower pH values of leachate of the wastes through the leaching tests with pH controlled water(3, 4, 5) may indicate that minerals producing the acidity still exist. Reduction of sulfur contents in wastes after the leaching test well fit to the increased contents of iron oxide.

홍동저수지 퇴적토의 유기물 용출 특성 분석을 통한 효율적인 저수지 관리 방안 연구 (Effective Reservoir Management Methods using Nutrients Leaching Characteristic Analysis: Case Study of the Hongdong Reservoir)

  • 농업용 저수지의 수질 개선을 위한 효율적 관리 방안은 본 연구에서 제시되었다. 홍동 저수지는 저수지 유역 내에 농경지, 산림지역, 주거지역, 그리고 축산지역 등을 포함하고 있다. 수질 환경을 복원시키기 위해 우선 저수지 내 퇴적물의 오염도를 조사되었고 저수지내 퇴적토의 잠재적인 영양염류인 분석한 결과 총질소(T-N)은 $1.06g/m^2-d{\sim}3.67g/m^2-d$로 분포를 보이고 총인(T-P)는 $0.52 g/m^2-d{\sim}1.12g/m^2-d$로 측정되었다. 또한 퇴적토 준설 시 용출 특성 분석을 위해 72시간동안 20 혐기성 조건으로 시험을 진행되었다. 총인(T-P)와 (인산염인) $PO_4$-P의 농도는 시간에 따라 비교적 일정하게 용출되는 특성이 나타났으며 총질소(T-P)의 경우에 아질산성 질소($NO_2$-N)와 질산성 질소($NO_3$-N)의 탈질산화로 인하여 그농도가 불규칙적으로 용출되는 특성을 보였다. 특히, 암모니아인 경우는 컬럼 내부의 혐기성 조건으로 형성된 낮은 pH로 인하여 질소($N_2$)와 함께 용출 양은 극히 미량으로 측정되었다.

호소의 난분해 물질 축적 영향요인의 평가 (Evaluation of Affecting Factors for Refractory Organics Accumulated in the Lakes)

  • Long-term monitoring results of water qualities at major lakes in Korea showed COD (chemical oxygen demand) concentrations have been increasing while BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) concentrations have been decreasing during last decades. This was mainly due to refractory organic matters have been accumulated in the water body. In this study, the possible causes of COD concentration increase were evaluated. From the statistics, it can be understood that potent pollutant sources including fertilizer consumption, population, livestock, and carbon uptake have increased. Leaching tests were carried out with soils and biomasses sampled at agricultural-forestry area. From the leaching experiments, leachate qualities as a ratio of $COD_{Cr}/BOD$ were in the range of 2.5-5.0, implying that NOM (natural organic matters) discharged from the forestry area was mainly responsible for the COD accumulation. It can be understood from this research that diffuse pollutants from forestry areas should be controlled properly to reduce COD accumulation in the lakes.

수용액에 용출된 에폭시수지 화합물의 TiO$_2$ 광분해효과와 생물독성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of TiO$_2$ Photodegradation on Leaching from Epoxy Resin Chemical in Water and Biological Toxicity)

  • Epoxy resins are mostly used as a molding material for drinking water tank. Bisphenol A is used at a constituent material for epoxy resins and is widely suspected to act as an endocrine disrupter. In this study, we investigated embryo hatching in zebrafish reared in water undergone leaching process of expoxy resin, and found a decreased survival rate. Bisphenol A eluted from epoxy resin in drinking water tank was completely degraded by TiO$_2$ photocatalysis. We detected 7.8 ng/ml of bisphenol A in epoxy resin tank, and observed that the concentration was undetectable after 48h photocatalysis over TiO$_2$. There was no toxicity in hatching rates in zebrafish and morphogenesis after photocatalysis. The effect of TiO$_2$ photocatalytic reactions on the catalase activities in the f]y stage of zebrafish was also examined. At 1 week post hatching, cataiase activities were higher both in the group of epoxy resin with 48 h TiO$_2$ photocatalysis and in the TiO$_2$ photocatalysis for 48 hours were higher than control group. However catalase activities of the treatment group of epoxy resin by TiO$_2$ photocatalysis for 48 hours were similar to control in 5 weeks post hatching fries. In conclusion, the toxicity of TiO$_2$ photocatalysis was not observed in this zebrafish.

토양(土壤)중 질산태질소(窒酸態窒素)의 행동(行動)과 지하수질(地下水質) (Behaviour of $NO_3-N$ in Soil and Groundwater Quality)

  • Nitrogen is an element required to meet optimal plant growth. However, when it was applied (as chemical fertilizer or animal waste) more than the demand of plant and managed it unreasonably can be accumulated in subsoil and leached from soil system. Nitrogen also can be act as an pollutant to soil and water through water contamination if its concentration exceed the critical level. The concentration and downward movement of nitrate in soil is influenced by cultural practices and soil properties. High level of nitrate nitrogen in drinking water is harzadrous for animal and human health, especially for infants and the restoration of the quality of groundwater is impossible by now. Therefore it is the only way to prevent from leaching of nitrate nitrogen to keep the quality of groundwater as vital water resource. The aims of the presentation of this review paper are to understand the relationship between agricultural practices and the concentration of nitrate nitrogen in groundwater and to suggest further informations for the rational management methods to reduce the leaching of nitrate nitrogen in soil.

미국 일리노이주 옥수수 재배 농경지 내 암거배수 시설 설계에 따른 배수량 및 질산성질소 배출 평가 (Assessment of Drainage Discharge and Nitrate-Nitrogen Loads According to Subsurface Drainage Design in Corn Cultivated Agricultural Land in Illinois, USA)

  • Subsurface drainage improves crop productivity in poorly drained soils but may also substantially contribute impairment of surface water quality due to excess leaching losses of nutrients like Nitrate-Nitrogen (NO3-N). This research presents preliminary findings from a 3-years tile depth and spacing study in Illinois state that includes three drain spacings implemented in 2 plots. We found that the plot with the narrower subsurface drainage (Case 1) exported more drainage water compared to the plot with the narrower subsurface drainage system (Case 2). The total drainage water from Case 1 plot showed 57% more compared to Case 2 plot. Whereas we observed that the plot with narrower drain spacing (Case 1) exported only 9% more NO3-N leaching losses compared to the wider plot (Case 2). The average corn yield was observed higher in plot Case 1 compared to Case 2. Especially, we observed about 7% higher corn yield in plot Case 1 compared to Case 2 plot in the relatively dried year (2022). The preliminary findings for this study suggest that subsurface drainage systems can be optimized to reduce nutrient losses while improving the crop productivity.

담수 퇴적물의 분석법간 비교 분석 (Comparison of the Methods to Analyze Freshwater Sediments)

  • 본 연구는 담수 퇴적물 중 유기물의 척도가 되는 화학적산소요구량, 염양염류인 총질소와 총인 및 금속류인 철과 망간에 대해 국내 외 분석법을 적용하여 분석을 실시함으로서 각 분석법간의 상관성을 파악하고 그 적용성을 알아보고자 하였다. 화학적산소요구량은 국내 해양환경공정시험방법과 일본의 위생시험법을 적용하였는데 두 방법 모두 측정범위가 넓고, 생물학적산소요구량이나 유기물질과 상관관계가 좋은 과망간산칼륨법을 이용하고 있기 때문에 분석법간 편차가 크지 않음을 확인하였다. 총질소와 총인의 경우 국내 식품공전에 의한 시험법과 일본의 위생시험법을 적용하여 분석을 실시하였다. 총질소는 두 방법 모두 중화 적정법이지만 시료 분해 및 증류 과정의 차이에 의해 일본의 위생시험법에 의한 분석 값이 약간 낮은 경향을 보였다. 총인의 경우 두 방법 모두 질산과 과염소산에 의한 분해 후 값을 측정하는 방법으로 비슷한 결과를 보였다. 철과 망간과 같은 금속류의 실험은 크게 용출방법과 산분해법을 실시하였다. 용출법에서 얻은 결과값은 산분해한 값에 비하여 적은 값을 나타내었는데 그 이유는 용출조건보다 산분해 조건에서 금속류가 더 잘 녹아나오기 때문이다.
