The effect of propylene oxide, butylene oxide, furan resin, and vinylpyrrolidinone in controlling wood dimensional stability have been examined. Wood in the green or ovendry condition was treated with various chemical treatments using a vacuum-pressure procedure, and treated specimens were tested for tangential sweelling, moisture gain, and changes in sorption hysteresis. Results' indicate that propylene oxide, and butylene oxide enhanced with the crosslin king agent trimethylol propane trimethacrylate and applied to ovendry wood were the most efficient chemical treatments in controlling tangential sweeling caused by liquid water or water vapor, and in reducing water vapor adsorption. The sorption behavior of treated wood as depicted by the ratios of sorption was "very favorable" in most instances. In the particular case of furan resin treatments, ratios of sorption were improved from 25 to 100 percent as compared to those of untreated wood.
In ocean color remote sensing, atmospheric correction is a vital process for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of ocean color products. Furthermore, in recent years, the remote sensing community has intensified its requirements for understanding errors in satellite data. Accordingly, research is currently addressing errors in remote sensing reflectance (Rrs) resulting from inaccuracies in meteorological variables (total ozone, pressure, wind field, and total precipitable water) used as auxiliary data for atmospheric correction. However, there has been no investigation into the error in Rrs caused by the variability of the water vapor profile, despite it being a recognized error source. In this study, we used the Second Simulation of a Satellite Signal Vector version 2.1 simulation to compute errors in water vapor transmittance arising from variations in the water vapor profile within the GOCI-II observation area. Subsequently, we conducted an analysis of the associated errors in ocean color products. The observed water vapor profile not only exhibited a complex shape but also showed significant variations near the surface, leading to differences of up to 0.007 compared to the US standard 62 water vapor profile used in the GOCI-II atmospheric correction. The resulting variation in water vapor transmittance led to a difference in aerosol reflectance estimation, consequently introducing errors in Rrs across all GOCI-II bands. However, the error of Rrs in the 412-555 nm due to the difference in the water vapor profile band was found to be below 2%, which is lower than the required accuracy. Also, similar errors were shown in other ocean color products such as chlorophyll-a concentration, colored dissolved organic matter, and total suspended matter concentration. The results of this study indicate that the variability in water vapor profiles has minimal impact on the accuracy of atmospheric correction and ocean color products. Therefore, improving the accuracy of the input data related to the water vapor column concentration is even more critical for enhancing the accuracy of ocean color products in terms of water vapor absorption correction.

Two-phase pressure drop experiments were performed during flow boiling to deionized water in a microchannel having a hydraulic diameter of $500{\mu}m$. Tests were made in the ranges of heat fluxes from 100 to $400kW/m^2$, vapor qualities from 0 to 0.2 and mass fluxes of 200, 400 and $600kg/m^2s$. The frictional pressure drop during flow boiling is predicted by using two models; the homogeneous model that assumes equal phase velocity and the separate flow model that allows a slip velocity between two phases. From the experimental results, it is found that the two phase multiplier decreases with an increase in mass flux. Measured data of pressure drop are compared to a few available correlations proposed for macroscale and mini/microscale. Among the separated flow models, the correlation model suggested by Lee and Garimella predicted the frictional pressure drop within MAE of 47.2%, which is better than other correlations.

Condensation heat transfer and pressure drop of R245fa were investigated experimentally in a plate-shell heat exchanger which consisted of thirty seven counter flow channels formed by thirty-eight plates with a chevron angle of $50^{\circ}$. The upflow of the water in one channel receives heat from the downflow of R245fa in the other. The effects of refrigerant mass flux, imposed heat flux, refrigerant saturation pressure, and mean vapor quality on the heat transfer characteristics were explored in detail. Experimental correlations were proposed to predict the condensation heat transfer coefficient and friction factor in terms of the Boiling number, Reynolds number, and Prandtl number. In the experiments, the mean vapor quality in the refrigerant channel was varied from .22 to .82, mass flux from 3 to $5kg/m^2$, imposed heat flux from 1 to $3kW/m^2$, and system pressure from .61 to .81 MPa.
Temperature, humidity and wetness duration were monitored for fully developed paddy rice canopies with 3 different structures induced by the seeding method(puddled-soil drill seeding, DS ; hand broadcasting, HB ; machine broadcasting, MB). Within-canopy air temperature averaged over "clear sky" hours during the study period(maximum tillering through heading) was lower than the screen temperature at a nearby standard weather station, especially in the night. The same trend was true for "overcast sky" hours except the diurnal distinction. Vapor pressure within the canopy was high during the daytime and low in the night, making the daytime deviation from outside the canopy more significant on clear days. Under the overcast sky, the canopy maintained a steady 5 to 10% higher vapor pressure than the outside regardless of day or night. Daily maximum temperature was observed to be higher within the canopies with more leaf mass, making MB the highest, HB the lowest, and DS in between. Relative humidity was over 90% in the night and dropped to 70% in the mid-afternoon, but vapor pressure within the canopy was highest at around 13:00 LST. Dew point depression was lowest and, combined with the temperature, the relative humidity was highest in HB. Mean period of wetting duration was in the order of DS>HB>MB, while the dew point depression was greatest in DS.
Several factors, including peak dp/dt of the ventricular pressure and maximum closing velocity of leaflet have been studied as indices of the cavitation threshold. In the present study, just before closing velocity of the leaflet has been studied as indices of the cavitation threshold, and cavitation erosion on the surface of a mechanical valve was examined by focusing on squeeze flow and the water hammer phenomenon during the closing period of the valve. A simple solenoid-actuated test device that can directly control the valve closing velocity was developed, and opening-closing tests of 3,000 and 40,000 cycles were performed at various closing velocities. There was a closing velocity threshold to occur erosion pitting of valve surface, and its value was about 0.4 m/s in this study. Cavitation-induced erosion pits were observed only in regions where squeeze flow occurred immediately before valve closure On the other hand, the number of the pits was found to be closely related to an area of water hammer-induced pressure wave below the critical pressure defined by water vapor pressure. Therefore, it was concluded that cavitation is initiated and augmented by the two pressure drops due to squeeze flow and water hammer phenomenon, respectively.
Diurnal changes of microclimatic conditions and tissue water relations were measured at two sites where Carpinus laxiflora and C. cordata were allopatrically distributed. The microclimatic conditions at a site where C. laxiflora was distributed produced severe water stress condition during summer months. Daily maximum temperature reached $30.4^\circC$ and the highest vapor pressure deficit was 1.31 KPa when 13 rainless days were continued. During this period soil water content decreased to below the field capacity even at a depth of 20 cm and xylem pressure potential also decreased to 2.04 MPa. However, turgor potential was maintained more than 0.4 MPa. Patterns of stomatal conductance were changed with evaporative demand and soil water availability. On the other hand, microclimatic conditions at a site where C. cordata was distributed were moderate water strees condition compared with those at a site C. laxiflora was distributed. Though soil water content was maintained above field capacity C. cordata showed a remarkable decrease in turgor potential and stomatal conductance throughout the experiment. These results indicate that there is a difference in habitat characteristics between the two species and C. laxiflora is more resistant than C. cordata to water stress.

Important physicochemical properties of captafol [N-(1,1,2,2-tetrachloro-ethylthio)cyclohex-4-ene-1,2-dicarboximide], water solubility, vapor pressure, hydrolysis and octanol/water partition coefficient(Kow) were measured based on the standard EPA and OECD methods. Water solubility of the chemical was 2.24 ppm at $25^{\circ}C$. Half-life by hydrolysis at $25^{\circ}C$ in the buffer solution of pH 3.0, pH 7.0, and pH 8.0 was 77.8 hr, 6.54 hr and 0.72 hr, respectively, demonstrating instability in alkaline solution. The half-life in acid condition was not significantly different by temperature change, however, that in neutral or alkaline solution became shorter at $40^{\circ}C$. Hydrolysis study with a reference compound, diazinon, proved that the experimental method of the present study is reliable. Vapor pressure of captafol, $8.27{\times}10^{-9}$ torr at $20^{\circ}C$, was calculated from the equation, log P=6.94-(4401.6/T) plotted on the experiment results under different temperature conditions, 40, 50, and $60^{\circ}C$. pressure of captafol, the contamination of captafol would not happen easily in environment by vaporization. High Kow value of 1,523 was observed and this might result in bioconcentration through food chain when captafol was exposed. However, affecting human health through aquatic bioaccumulation is not likely to occur due to its rapid hydrolysis in the environment.

This study examined the effect of amorphous metallic (AM) fibers on the spalling properties of ultra high strength concrete. Six specimens with concrete strengths of 100 MPa and 150 MPa were evaluated with mix proportions of polypropylene (PP) fibers of 0.15% by concrete volume, and proportions of AM fibers of 0.3% and 0.5% by concrete volume. These specimens were then heated in accordance with the ISO-834 heating curve. The movement of water vapor through a pore network formed by molten PP fibers was found to be a dominant factor controlling the spalling of high-strength concrete. Spalling control was not found to be significantly affected by the addition of 0.3% AM fibers; however, when 0.5% AM fibers was added, cracking was limited and so were paths for water vapor migration, increasing the likelihood of a moisture clog and creating the differential internal pressure often blamed for concrete spalling.
This study was carried out for improvement and correction of the traditional pressure variation method (PVM) in the respiration rate measurements of fresh fruits and vegetables using a microcomputer system and a differential pressure sensor. Water vapor pressure in the container was calculated by equations for psychrometric calculations. At the beginning of experimental period water vapor pressure in the container was increased and maintained constantly in the most experimental period, but was decreased dramatically after $CO_2$ scrubbing. The percentages of water vapor pressure on total differential pressure were $33{\sim}46%$ at $1^{\circ}C$, $23{\sim}45%$ at $11^{circ}C$ and $35{\sim}53%$ at $21^{\circ}C$. The differences between the respiration rates determined by gas chromatography and corrected pressure variation method (CPVM) were $0.2{\sim}0.3\;mgCO_2kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ at $1^{\circ}C$, $0.2{\sim}2.9\;mgCO_2kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ at $11^{\circ}C$ and 1.0{\sim}9.0\;mgCO_2kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ at $21^{circ}C$, while those between gas chromatography and normal pressure variation method (PVM) were $0.8{\sim}1.2\;mgCO_2kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ at $1^{\circ}C$, $3.9{\sim}11.0\;mgCO_2kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ at $11^{\circ}C$ and $8.0{\sim}32.0\;mgCO_2kg^{-1}h^{-1}$ at $21^{circ}C$, respectively. The differences of the respiration rates with CPVM were smaller than those with PVM. CPVM, therefore, were more exact and convenient method than PVM in the measurement of respiration rate of fresh produce.
