  • Corrosion fatigue test was performed by the use of plane bending fatigue tester in marine environment having various specific resistance from 25(natural sea water) to 5000.ohm.cm. It is in order to investigate the effects of marine environmental factor on the corrosion fatigue fracture of SS41 steel. The main results obtained are as follows; 1. The aspect ratio(b/a) of corner crack growing in natural sea water is lower than that in air. 2. The surface crack growth rate(da/dN) in marine environment is faster than that in air and da/dN delaies with the specific resistance increased. 3. The experimental constant m of paris rule [da/dN=C(${\delta}$K)$^m$] decrease with the specific resistance decreased and the effect of corrosion in proportion to the specific resistance is more sensitive than that of stress intensity factor range(${\delta}$K) under region II. 4. The accelerative factor(${\alpha}$) in marine environment is about 1.1-2.7 and .alpha. is increase under the low region of stress intensity factor range(${\delta}$K). 5. The electrode potential($E_0$) gets less noble potential with the specific resistance decreased.

  • Flow visualization study to qualitatively define the flow field over a stealth UCAV(Uninhabited Combat Air Vehicle) configuration in a water tunnel has been conducted to clarify the basic aerodynamic performance. The test was performed at freestream velocity of 12.7 cm/sec which was corresponding to a Reynolds number of $1.4{\times}10^4$ based on mean aerodynamic chord. The development and breakdown of vortices illuminated by using dye were compared to the previous force and moment data. It was shown that the effect of the vortices generated by the main-body and junction are dominant in the low angle-of-attack region. However, in the high angle-of-attack region, the vortex generated by the fore-body mainly influenced the aerodynamic performance of the model.

  • In this research, I performed rainfall monitoring by selecting the spot which can represent high altitude cool farm region in recent 3 years, and tried to understand the characteristic of outflow of non-point pollutants coming from high altitude cool farm region. As a result, it was shown that reducing rainfall runoff in highland farm area can reduce non-point pollution load and should consider priority to reduce runoff through management resources when selecting abatement method. Additionally, it is judged that reduction method related to base run-off should be selected by performing research on material motion of TN.

  • I/I(Infiltration/Inflow) characteristics should be studied to achieve I/I reduction which is a main object of sewer rehabilitation. However, The scientific and practical studies which are based on actual survey within the country are not thorough going enough. The earlier studies were limited because of a short research period and specific region. Thus, In this study, a formula is deduced by intensive correlation analysis between defective number and I/I volume in sewer pipe. It can be used as preliminary data when the project established for cost-effective pipe rehabilitation. The study shows that the researched region have a faulty point at every 9.3m on average and prove correlation between defective number and I/I volume in sewer pipes. Thus, this study can improve the investigation system and estimate the volume of the pipe rehabilitation, when site investigations for rehabilitation have been conducted.

  • The bilayer forming ability of pseudo-ceramide PC104 in octanoic acid/water/n-octyl $\beta$-D-glucoside mixtures was investigated through the phase diagram. Because of its low solubility in water and of its crystallization, pseudoceramide PC104 was dissolved in octanoic acid, which is nontoxic additive for foods and cosmetics. The mixtures formed four different phases (L1, L2, LC and two phases). Depending on the concentration of PC104 in octanoic acid, the region of each phase was extended or contracted. On the contrary to the region of L2, regions of lamellar phase and L1 phase were expanded. The bilayer-forming ability of PC104 was explained on the basis of concentration of PC104 at interface and interaction between PC104 and octanoic acid. From FT-IR results, it was found that the interactions of PC104’s polar head group with octanoic acid increased as the amount of PC104 in octanoic acid increased. Also emulsion size and size distribution have been studied depending upon the emulsification path. droplets of emulsion prepared from lamellar phase were smaller and more homogeneous compared to those of emulsions formed from L2 phase.

  • Since sewer rehabilitation program requires long construction period and enormous capital investment, determination of rehabilitation priorities is important with systematic planning considering appropriate evaluation parameters. In this research, we applied PROMETHEE(Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Evaluations) known as very objective and scientific multi-criteria decision-making analysis, using the weights determined by AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) for the selected sewer evaluation items to calculate the rehabilitation priorities for each sewer sub-catchment in basin Gusan 1 of Seoul. Preference functions and preference thresholds were estimated for each criterion of ratio of lack of hydraulic capacity of sewers, defect ratio, ratio of sewers with velocity less than its minimum criteria, and density of sewers in the sub-catchment. As a result, it was found that region d had the first priority among four sub-catchments. For each and every sewer located in region d, we could also rank sewers to be rehabilitated urgently.

  • In order to understand the stress responses, we measured the concentration of stress hormones by using the fresh feces of wild otters in the Gwangju stream and Seomjin river during summer and winter in 2018. We compared seasonal and regional number of spraints (=otters' feces), temperature, altitude, water width, land cover, and water quality with stress hormones. The stress hormone levels were higher in summer than in winter, and significantly different to season and region. In addition, the number of feces were different according to the season and region, and showed a negative correlation with stress hormone. This study suggested assessing stress hormones as another promising method for the analysis of status of wild otters and it will contribute to establish the management and conservation policy, especially in urban area.

  • The accuracy impact of using high-order Boussinesq-type model as compared to the typical order model is examined in this paper. The multi-layer model developed by Lynett and Liu(2004a) is used for simulating of wave breaking over a shelf region. The nonlinearity of the waves tested, ${k_0}{A_0}$, ranges from 0.029 to 0.180. The overall agreement between the two-layer model and the hydraulic experiments are quite good. The one-layer model overshoals the wave near the breakpoint, while the two-layer model shoals at a rate more consistent with the experimental data.

  • We have performed molecular dynamics simulations of atomistic models of $C_{60}$ molecules and DMPC bilayer membranes to study the static and dynamic effects of carbon nanoparticles on biological membranes. All four $C_{60}$-membrane systems were investigated representing dilute and concentrated solutions of $C_{60}$ residing either inside or outside the membrane. The concentrated $C_{60}$ molecules in water phase start forming an aggregated cluster. Due to its heavy mass, the cluster tends to adhere on the surface of the bilayer membrane, hindering both translational and rotational diffusion of individual $C_{60}$. On the other hand, once $C_{60}$ molecules accumulate inside the membrane, they are well dispersed in the central region of the bilayer membrane. Because of the homogeneous dispersion of $C_{60}$ inside the membrane, each leaflet is pushed away from the center, making the bilayer membrane thicker. This thickening of the membrane provides more room for both translational and rotational motions of $C_{60}$ inside the membrane compared to that in the water region. As a result, the dynamics of $C_{60}$ inside the membrane becomes faster with increasing its concentration.

  • To find out generating mechanism of eddies in the polar frontal zone of the East Sea, we carried out a series of numerical experiments using the nonlinear $1^{1/2}-layer$ model allowing the effect of the polar front. We assumed the polar front at about $39^{\circ}N$ in zonal direction with the cold water region in the northern part and the warm water region in the southern part of the model ocean. To examine the effect of the frontal motion without the influence of the Tsushima Current from the beginning of the geostrophic adjustment, the initial state of the model ocean was assumed motionless. Eastward current was caused by the geostrophic adjustment process in the polar frontal zone that induced a steady northward coastal current along the Korean coast to satisfy the mass continuity. The overshooting of this coastal current acted as an initial disturbance of the zonal flow field which caused meanders and eddies. The spatial scales of eddies were in good agreement with the baroclinic instability theory.
