Objectives : Mangifera indica leaves are well known for having a variety of benefits, including anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic vasculosis. However, the effects of Mangifera indica leaves on hair loss inhibition have not been studied. In this study, we investigated to find out the activity of Mangifera indica leaves on hair loss. Methods : 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid(ABTS) analysis was performed to confirm the antioxidant efficacy of the water extract of Mangifera indica leaves (WEML). To examine the effect of WEML on cell viability in dermal papillar (DP) cells, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2H-tetra Zolium (MTS) analysis was performed. The changes in the mRNA expression level of the hair loss and hair growth-related genes in dermal papilla cells by WEML treatment were confirmed by quantitative RT-PCR. Results : In dermal papilla (DP) cells, ABTS analysis and MTS analysis of WEML showed antioxidant efficacy and low cytotoxicity. As a result of gene expression analysis through Quantitative RT-PCR, no changes in hair growth-related genes BMP6 and CTNNB1 was confirmed. but inhibitory activity of WEML on hair loss-related genes EGR1, SGK, DKK1, SRD5A1 and SRD5A2 was confirmed. Conclusion : We confirmed that WEML has excellent antioxidant efficacy and a inhibitory activity of hair loss-related genes including 5α-reductase genes. These results suggest that Mangifera indica leaves have a potential activity as a hair loss treatment for hair loss and hair growth. Biochemical or molecular biological research on hair loss is needed.

In this study, the physicochemical and sensory quality characteristics due to the influence of various thawing methods on electro-magnetic and air blast frozen pork were examined. The packaged pork samples, which were frozen by air blast freezing at $-45^{\circ}C$ or electro-magnetic freezing at $-55^{\circ}C$, were thawed using 4 different methods: refrigeration ($4{\pm}1^{\circ}C$), room temperature (RT, $25^{\circ}C$), cold water ($15^{\circ}C$), and microwave (2450 MHz). Analyses were carried out to determine the drip and cooking loss, water holding capacity (WHC), moisture content and sensory evaluation. Frozen pork thawed in a microwave indicated relatively less thawing loss (0.63-1.24%) than the other thawing methods (0.68-1.38%). The cooking loss after electro-magnetic freezing indicated 37.4% by microwave thawing, compared with 32.9% by refrigeration, 36.5% by RT, and 37.2% by cold water in ham. The thawing of samples frozen by electro-magnetic freezing showed no significant differences between the methods used, while the moisture content was higher in belly thawed by microwave (62.0%) after electro-magnetic freezing than refrigeration (54.8%), RT (61.3%), and cold water (61.1%). The highest overall acceptability was shown for microwave thawing after electro-magnetic freezing but there were no significant differences compared to that of the other samples.

Many engineering problems on the pipeline flow use continuity, energy, friction loss head equation. To calculate friction loss head in a pipeline, Darcy-Weisbach and many average velocity equations can be used and Hazen-Williams equation is used frequently in the pipe network for the water supply systems. Darcy-Weisbach equation is a general one acquired from applying Bernoulli's equation in the pipeline flow and Hazen-Williams equation is a experimental one in case that pipe velocity is below 3m/sec and pipe diameter is over 50mm. In this study, comparing Darcy-Weisbach with Hazen-Williams equation, relation f and C that are expressed as roughness coefficients of those equations is explained. Next, head losses calculated from using those equations are compared and those are applied in realistic pipelines. Comparing f with C, the f is decreasing linearly according to increase of the Reynolds number Re and increasing in case the C is decreasing. additionally, the C is increasing up to a point and then is decreasing according to increase of the Re. Next, the C is increasing and Re's range for increase of the C lengthens in case of decreasing of the relative roughness ${\varepsilon}/d$. Comparing head losses acquired from the two equations, head loss appears large in case that the C is decreasing and the ${\varepsilon}/d$ is increasing. additionally, Head loss calculated by the Darcy-Weisbach equation varies larger than one by Hazen-Williams equation in regard of the Re. Next, change aspect of head loss acquired by the C is distinguished more clearly than the one by the ${\varepsilon}/d$.
The physicochemical properties and sensory characteristics for the neck, belly and ham of crossbred pigs SW90 (slaughter weight $90\sim100\;kg$) and SW110(slaughter weight $110\sim120\;kg$) were evaluated to investigate their quality. The water holding capacity, freezing loss, thawing loss, pan boiling loss and water boiling loss were not significantly different between SW90 and SW110, but the thawing loss and water boiling loss of belly were higher than those of other parts(p<0.05). The surface color was not affect by slaughter weight, but the L* value of belly was higher than that of the other parts and a* value was lower than that of the neck and ham(p<0.05). The mechanical texture was not affect by slaughter weight, the hardness of belly was lower than that of the neck and ham, but the springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess, chewiness and shear force of neck and ham were lower than those of belly(p<0.05). The pH, VBN content and TBARS value was not significantly different by slaughter weight. The taste, aroma, texture, juiciness and palatability of SW110 were higher than those of SW90, and the sensory characteristics of belly were higher than those of neck and ham, but their difference was not significant.
The Korea has high population density, so the precipitation per capita is only one tenth to world average. The water resource in Korea is insufficient. But the leakage in the water distribution system is about 25%, and it is lower than other countries where water utilities are managed well. The pipelines' management also is getting worse because the leakage in the pipelines lower the ground density surrounding pipes. So, managing the leakage in the water distribution system is very important in the view of increasing the water resources and doing the efficient management of the pipeline system. Accordingly this study aimed to conduct a cause-analysis with scientific approaches considering key local factor related to water loss of distribution system and derive better performance indicators which are able to evaluate the real state of water loss management reasonably. Also this research aimed to develop a methodology capable of judging condition of infrastructure of water distribution system.
Multi-regional water supply system, which installed for supplying multiple water demands, is characterized by large-sized, long-distance, tree-type layout. This system is vulnerable to long-standing service interruption when a pipe breaks is occurred. In this study, a numerical method is proposed to calculate drainage time that directly affects time of service interruption. To begin with, governing equations are formulated to embed the delayed drainage effect by the friction loss, and to resolve complicated connection of pipelines, which are derived from the continuity and energy equations. The nonlinear hydraulic equations are solved by using explicit time integration method and the Newton-Raphson method. The developed model is verified by comparing the result with analytical solution. Furthermore, the model's applicability is validated by the examples of pipelines in serial, in parallel, and complex layout. Finally, the model is utilized to suggest an appropriate actions to reduce the deviation of draining time in the C transmission line of the B multi-regional water supply system.
One metabolism trial(Experiment I) and another respiration trial(Experiment II) were conducted to investigate the effects of dietary fiber supplementation(20% wheat bran) on the water balance, blood acid-base balance, body temperature, and metabolic rate of heat-stressed adult roosters. In Experiment I, twenty 20-wk-old SCWL roosters(BW 1.6 kg) were randomly alloted to 4 treatments with 5 birds per treatment and one per replicate. The 4 treatments were consisted of two temperature(21~22˚C vs. 34~35˚C) and two dietary fiber treatment(0% and 20% wheat bran), making Experiment I a 2x2 factorial. After 4 d of preliminary period, birds we subjected to 3-d collection period. Sixteen 20-wk-old SCWL roosters(BW 1.6 kg) were employed Experiment H, with two temperature(21~22˚C vs. 34~35˚C) and two wheat bran levels(0% and 20%). Brids were housed in individual metabolism cages under normal temperature(21~22˚C), at fed one of the experimental diet. After 4 d of preliminary period, a respiration trial with open-circuit gravimetric respiratory apparatus was carried out for each bird for 6 h, one by one, normal(20~21˚C) and hot(34~35˚C) temperatures. The ANOVA test and comparisons among treatment means were done at 5% probability level for both experiments. Results obtained from Experiment I and, II were summarized as follows, 1.The amounts of DM intake and excretion were significantly(P<.05) decreased by heat stress. The DM intake was not affected by the addition of 20% wheat bran, however, the amount of DM excretion was significantly increased by the high fiber diet. Thus, the DM metabolizability decreased significantly by the addition of 20% wheat bran. 2. The heat-stressed roosters increased the water intake and excreta moisture content significantly. Although not significant, the water intake tended to increase in roosters fed the 20% wheat bran diet. 3. The amounts of total water input and evaporative water loss were increased significantly by heat stress, and the addition of 20% wheat bran did not exert any influence on the total water input and evaporative water loss. However, roosters fed the 20% wheat bran diet increased the excreta water output significantly. 4. Neither the heat stress nor the dietary fiber did affect the blood pH, pCO2, and HCO$_3$- significantly. 5. The body temperature increased significantly by the heat stress. However, the high fiber deit failed to decrease the body temperature. 6. The heat-stressed roosters decreased the 02 consumption and C0$_2$ production, and increased the evaporative water loss significantly. However, the high fiber diet did not exert any infulence in this regard. It appears that the beneficial effect, if any, of high fibrous diet during heat stress episode may be due to the increased heat loss through the enhanced excreta water.
Urban sewer systems are designed to operate in open-channel flow regime and energy loss at circular manholes are usually not significant. However, the energy loss at manholes, often exceeding the friction loss of pipes under surcharge flow, is considered as one of the major causes of inundation in urban area. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the head loss associated with manholes, especially in surcharge flow. Hydraulic experimental apparatus with two circular manholes was installed for this study. The range of the experimental discharges were from $1.0\ell/sec$ to $4.4\ell/sec$. Head loss coefficient was maximum because of strong oscillation of water surface when the range of manhole depth ratios$(h_m/D_{in})$ were from 1,2 to 1.25. The average head loss coefficients for upstream manhole and downstream manhole were 0.58 and 0.23 respectively. Head loss at upstream manhole is nearly 2.5 times more than one at downstream manhole.
The sliding wear behavior of an iron-base NOREM 02 hardfacing alloy was investigated in the temperature range of $25~250^{\circ}C$ under a contact stress of 103MPa (15ksi). With increasing temperature, the wear loss of Norem 02 in water increased slightly up to $180^{\circ}C$ at which Norem 02 showed the wear loss of 2.1mg. The wear resistance of Norem 02 resulted from the surface hardening due to the strain-induced phase transformation from austenite to $\alpha$'martensite during sliding wear. The wear loss of Norem 02 was smaller in water compared to air at same temperature because the water could be served as a sort of lubricant. The wear mode of NOREM 02 changed abruptly to severe adhesive wear at $190^{\circ}C$ and galling occurred above $200^{\circ}C$. It was caused that the strain- induced phase transformation took place below $180^{\circ}C$ while not above $190^{\circ}C$. Therefore, Norem 02 was considered to be inadequate at high temperature service area.
