This paper was studied to research regarding the removal of contained nitrogen in industrial wastewater which uses the A2O4 advanced water treatment process. The field researches of two companies' wastewater occurred in each wastewater treatment site to apply the A2O4 process system, it was observed them for 20 days. As a result of the A2O4 system advanced wastewater process which applied an altitude control process obtained $10{\sim}76\;mg/L$, and 20 mg/L total nitrogen compound concentration in the two wastewater plants. In conclusion, it applied the A2O4 system in the two companies' wastewater system.
The measurement and monitoring of the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) play an important role in the planning and operation of wastewater treatment plants. The most basic method for determining biochemical oxygen demand is direct measurement. However, this method is both expensive and takes a long time. A five-day period is required to determine the biochemical oxygen demand. This study has been carried out in a wastewater treatment plant in Turkey (Hurma WWTP) in order to estimate the biochemical oxygen demand a shorter time and with a lower cost. Estimation was performed using artificial neural network (ANN) method. There are three different methods in the training of artificial neural networks, respectively, multi-layered (ML-ANN), teaching learning based algorithm (TLBO-ANN) and artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC-ANN). The input flow (Q), wastewater temperature (t), pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended sediment (SS), total phosphorus (tP), total nitrogen (tN), and electrical conductivity of wastewater (EC) are used as the input parameters to estimate the BOD. The root mean squared error (RMSE) and the mean absolute error (MAE) values were used in evaluating performance criteria for each model. As a result of the general evaluation, the ML-ANN method provided the best estimation results both training and test series with 0.8924 and 0.8442 determination coefficient, respectively.

Recently, according to the increase of population and rapid growth of industry, the amount of effluent pollutant has been rising in natural water. In these pollutant, nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphor are told that these evolve the odor, color and eutrophication in rural housing sewage and lake regulary. Many researches have been carried out to remove these nutrients from effluents and will have to be studied more deeply. Especially, because of the sewage of rural housing and livestock, environmental pollution raises serious problem in a rural community. This method is developed to solve the problem environmentally friendly. Using the natural energy(wasteheat, earthheat, solar engery) and the growth properties of aquatic plants are most efficient method to absorb the nutrients and denitrification and phosphor uptake.
Background: A typical sewage treatment plant is designed for organic and nutrient removal from municipal sewage water and not targeted to eliminate micropollutants such as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and nano-sized metals which become a big concern for sustainable human and ecological system and are mainly discharged from sewage treatment plant. Therefore, despite contaminant removal by wastewater treatment processes, there are still remaining environmental risks by untreated pollutants in STP (sewage treatment plant) effluents. This study performed aquatic toxicity tests of raw wastewater and treated effluents in two sewage treatment plants to evaluate toxicity reduction by wastewater treatment process and analyze concentration of contaminants to reveal potential toxic factors in STP effluents. Methods: Water samples were collected from each treatment steps of two STPs, and acute and chronic toxicity tests were conducted following USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) and OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) guidelines. Endpoints were immobility for mortality and reproduction effect for estrogenicity. Results: Acute $EC_{50}s$ (median effective concentration) of influents for Seungki (SK) and Jungnang (JN) STPs are $54.13{\pm}32.64%$ and $30.38{\pm}24.96%$, respectively, and reduced to $96.49{\pm}7.84%$ and 100%. Acute toxicity reduction was clearly correlated with SS (suspended solids) concentration because of filter feeding characteristics of test organisms. Chronic toxicity tests revealed that lethal effect was reduced and low concentration of influents showed higher number of neonates. However, toxicity reduction was not related to nutrient removal. Fecundity effect positively increased in treated wastewater compared to that in raw wastewater, and no significant differences were observed compared to the control group in JN final effluent implying potential effects of estrogenic compounds in the STP effluents. Conclusions: Conventional wastewater treatment process reduced some organics and nutritional compounds from wastewater, and it results in toxicity reduction in lethal effect and positive reproductive effect but not showing correlation. Unknown estrogenic compounds could be a reason causing the increase of brood size. This study suggests that pharmaceutical residues and nanoparticles in STP effluents are one of the major micropollutants and underline as one of estrogenic effect factors.
To slove the problems by the scum, which causes operational and water quality problems in water treatment plants, several researches were conducted based on the site investigations on twelve large water treatment plants, biological and chemical analysis of scum, analyzing raw water quality data. Two types of scum, which are from scum and floe scum, can be classified based on the analysis and site investigations. The major parameter generating floe scum was indicated as fine bubbles dissolved in the water. The fine bubbles dissolved in the water can be generated by over-saturated air in the water, adding aluminum surface as the coagulant, conducting the break point pre-chlorination and so on. The water spray method, which is one of the physical treatment methods for removing scum, was selected for conducting experiments on the removal efficiency in the flocculation basin of the real water treatment plant. The water spray method was successfully applied for removing scum with the advantages of using spiral nozzles in case of using the raw water rather than the cleaned water.
The effluent discharge standards of industrial wastewater has become more stringent since 2003. Many industrial wastewater treatment plants has been upgraded to advanced treatment facilities. There are high concentrations of nitrate(>200 mg/L) and ammonium(>50 mg/L) nitrogen in the acrylic fiber wastewater of H textile Co. Wastewater from acrylic fiber industry containing acrylonitrile, which may affect the subsequent biological treatment process. Manufacturing of acrylic fiber also produces shock loadings. Excessive acrylonitrile and polymer debris produced in the polymerization process was screened, coagulated with CaO and settled down. A preaeration system was added to treat this high pH effluent to remove volatile organic compound and ammonia nitrogen by the air stripping effect. it was found that nitrification rate was not sufficient in the Anoxic/Oxic(AO) process. One denitrification tank was converted to nitrification reactor to extend HRT of nitrification. Nitrification rate of ammonia nitrogen was promoted from 32% to 67% by this modification and effluent nitrogen concentration was well satisfied with the effluent standards since then.
A methodology to predict the output performance of small hydro power using treated effluent in wastewater treatment plant has been studied. Existing plant located Kyunggi-Do were selected and the output performance characteristics for these plants were analyzed. As a result, it was found that the developed model in this study can be used to analyze the output characteristics for small hydro power in wastewater treatment plant. Additionally, primary design specifications such as design flowrate, capacity, operational rate and annual electricity production were estimated and discussed.
Bulking phenomena and scum formation are common problem in suspended growth system like the activated sludge plants for wastewater treatment. Apart from wastewater composition, operating conditions, such as mechanical stress by insufficient oxygen supply, are often decisive for the occurrence of a bulking or scumming problem. There were the comparative aeration tanks in terms of sludge bulking caused by the difference of mechanical aeration facilities in the wastewater treatment plant of N paper mill company. In this study the cause of bulking was investigated through not only the biological isolation and identification but also a series of operational data consideration. On the basis of the investigation results for bulking cause, the operational criteria on dissolved oxygen concentration was derived to decrease the bulking problem.
