분말 폐굴껍질을 이용한 정수슬러지의 탈수 개선방안 (The Study on the Dewaterability Improvement of Water Treatment Sludge Using Powdered Waste Oyster Shells)

  • The object of this study is to find out the characteristics of waste oyster shells and determine the proper dosage of powdered waster oyster shells as the conditioning agent for water treatment sludge dewatering process. The large amount of waste oyster shells which discharges from the oyster farming, occurs serious environmental hazards. However, oysters shell contain large amount(about 38% by weight) of alkaline minerals, such as calcium and magnesium and so on, this natural material is thought to have the petential ability as a good conditioning agent. The results of this study are as follows. The optimum condition for improvement of the water treatment sludge dewaterability is when 6 g of waste oyster shell powder added to 200$m\ell$ of water treatment sludge. At optimum condition, the solid contents can reach to 31.78% and the specific resistance of conditioned sludge is 0.16$\times$10$^{8}$ sec$^2$/g. However, exceeding the of powdered waste oyster shell is needed to get the effective result. Consequently, the waste oyster shell can be a recyclable material to improve the dewaterability of water treatment sludges.

Investigation of Strength Characteristics of Ferrous Slag and Waste Concrete in Water Contacting Environment by Exposure to Raining Events

  • Ferrous slag is a by-product from steel making process and waste concrete is generated from construction activities. Large part of ferrous slag and waste concrete are recycled as construction materials. However, Ca2+ leaching out of ferrous slag and waste concrete in the water-contacting environment can cause a strength change. Strength can be reduced due to the dissolution of solid form of CaO which is one of the main contents of ferrous slag and waste concrete. On the other hand, strength can be enhanced due to the pozzolanic reaction of cementitious components with water. In this study, steelmaking slag, blast furnace slag, and waste concrete were aged by exposure to raining events, and the change of their compaction and shear strength characteristics was investigated. Optimum moisture content of all materials used in this study increased with aging period while maximum dry unit weight slightly decreased, implying that the relative contents of fine particles increased as the CaO solid particles were dissolved. Internal friction angle and shear strength of recycled materials also increased with aging period, indicating that the materials became denser by the decrease of void ratio attributed to the fine particles generated during the weathering process and the development of cementitious compounds increasing the bonding and interlocking forces between the particles. The results of this study demonstrated that mechanical strength of recycled materials used as construction materials has little chance to be deteriorated during their service life.

  • 국내 알루미늄 재생업체에서 알루미늄 용해시 발생되는 알루미늄 폐드로스를 사용하여 수처리응집제로 사용되는 황산알루미늄을 제조하였다. 알루미늄 폐드로스를 황산과 반응시켜 폐드로스 중에 잔류하는 금속알루미늄을 황산알루미늄용액으로 제조함으로써 수산화알루미늄을 원료로 사용하여 황산알루미늄을 제조하는 종래의 방법에 비해 제품의 원료비를 줄일 수 있고, 알루미늄 폐드로스를 재활용함으로써 매립 등으로 폐기시켜야 할 폐드로스의 양을 줄이는 효과가 있었다.

소변분리변기오수(Brown water)의 혐기성 처리 시 음식물 쓰레기 혼합에 따른 수소생산 특성 (Effect of Food Waste Mixing on Hydrogen Gas Production in Anaerobic Digestion of Brown Water from Urine Diversion Toilet)

  • 본 연구는 수소가스 생산을 위한 brown water(소변을 제외한 대변 + 대변세척수 6 L)의 혐기성 소화 시, 음식물쓰레기 혼합 효과를 평가하기 위해 실시하였다. brown water와 음식물쓰레기의 적절한 혼합 비율을 찾기 위해 회분식 실험이 수행되었고, 도출된 결과는 연속운전 세미파일럿 규모 brown water의 혐기성 소화장치의 실험에 적용되었다. 회분식 실험에서 70%의 음식물쓰레기와 30%의 brown water을 혼합하였을 때 $6.92mmol\;H_2/g\;COD_{removed}$의 최대 수소생산수율을 나타내었다. 동일한 혼합비율로 투입한 음식물쓰레기 및 brown water의 세미파일럿 규모 혐기성 소화조를 운전하였을 때, 반응조 내부에서 수소생산의 중간산물인 butyric acid의 현저한 증가를 보였다. 이 때 수소 생산의 지표인 B/P (butyrate/propionate) 비는 52.64로 나타났고, 수소생산수율은 최대 $25.03mmol\;H_2/g\;COD_{removed}$로 나타났다. 이상의 실험적 연구결과 brown water의 혐기성 수소발효에서 음식물쓰레기의 혼합은 수소발생을 촉진하기 위한 좋은 대안임을 확인하였다.

축산분뇨 농지환원을 위한 적정관리방안 (Development of Guidelines for Animal Waste Land Application to Minimize Water Quality Impacts)

  • Land application of manure compost is considered one of the widely-used animal waste management practices. Many livestock farms adopt composting for their animal waste disposal and apply the compost to crop fields. While standard rates have been established based on researches with respect to land application of manure compost recently, there have been few discussions on water quality impact of the application. Water quality impact should be taken into account in land applications of manure compost. In this study, management practices were proposed based on the investigation of water quality of leachate from manure compost under rainfall simulation, field studies, and monitoring runoff water quality from farm fields after land application of animal waste. The concentrations of major water quality parameters of the leachate were significantly high, whereas those of runoff from soils after tillage for soil incorporation, were not affected by the application based on a series of experiments. Runoff water from farm fields after land application also showed high concentrations of pollutants. Appropriate management practices should be employed to minimize pollutant loading from manure applied fields. Proposed major management practices include 1) application of recommended amounts, 2) proper tillage for complete soil and manure incorporation, 3) field management to prevent excessive soil erosion, 4) complete diversion of inflow into the field from outside, 5) implementation of vegetative buffer strips near boundaries, and 6) prevention of direct discharge of runoff water front fields Into streams.

Application of food waste leachate to a municipal solid waste incinerator for reduction of NOx emission and ammonia water consumption

  • This study investigates the possibility of applying food waste leachate to a municipal solid waste incinerator in order to effectively dispose of the material and to reduce the environmental impact. The spray positions and the quantity of the food waste leachate in municipal solid waste incinerator were adjusted to examine the stability of the process and the environmental effect. The rear of the first combustion chamber was found to be the desirable location for an environmental perspective in this study. At a food waste leachate injection rate of $2m^3/h$, the concentration of the emitted NOx decreased from 130 ppm to 40 ppm. The consumption of ammonia water was reduced by about 36% after adding the food waste leachate. The inclusion of the food waste leachate to the municipal incinerator also increased the amount of steam that was produced. The results of this research indicated that a positive outcome can be expected in terms of diversifying the treatment options for food waste leachate. The results also provide guidance for institutional framework to manage the incineration of the food waste leachate.

상수관망의 자가세척 유속과 적정 플러싱 유속 평가 (The assessment of self cleaning velocity and optimal flushing velocity in water distribution system)

  • The flushing is important to maintain good water quality in water main. It is a technique of using water velocity to remove sediments in water distribution system. The variety of water quality problems can occur in a distribution system, so too can a variety of benefits be gained by system flushing. In order to effectively perform the flushing, the contaminants to be removed to set up and it can be solved, it is necessary to ensure the proper flow rate. In this study, the removal of contaminants present in the inner water pipe attached loose deposits such as fine particles of granular activated carbon, sand and iron corrosion product sought to derive flow rates. Thus, the constant observation of using pilot plant scale water distribution plant for the movement of floating characteristics of particles were assessed.

저온 폐열 회수를 위한 제1종 흡수식 열펌프의 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 (Computer Simulation of an Absorption Heat Pump for Recovering Low Grade Waste Heat)

  • A computer program for thermal design analysis has been developed to predict the operating characteristics and performance of an absorption heat pump to recover $30{\sim}40^{\circ}C$ of waste hot water. The effects of heat transfer area of the system components, temperature and mass flow rate of heat transfer medium, and solution circulation rate on the system performance are investigated in detail. The results obtained indicate that the COP is increased with a decrease in the temperature of driving steam and with an increase in the temperature of waste hot water while the COP is little affected by the variation of a hot water temperature. It is also found that the heating output is increased with an increase in the temperature of waste hot water and driving steam as well as with a decrease in the temperature of hot water. The simulation results are also compared with the experimental results for a periodic operation of the system and obtained a satisfactory agreement.

최적화기법을 이용한 황구지천유역의 오염부하량 할당 (Waste Load Allocation of Hwanggujicheon Watershed Using Optimization Technique)

  • Water quality of the Hwanggujicheon is poor because of the rapid housing and development in the large area of the basin. Establishment of water quality management strategy, based on the pollution sources survey and pollutant loads estimation, has to be established for the preservation of the stream water quality of the region. In this study, waste load allocation model to achieve the water quality goal of the stream and the optimization of pollutant load reduction, was developed. Nonpoint pollutant loads calculated by runoff model in the previous study are utilized for pollutant loads estimation of the drainage areas in this study. From the application result of the allocation model, water quality goals of the Hwanggujicheon that can be achieved as a matter of fact are BOD 8 mg/L. To achieve these goals, 23% of effluent BOD loads have to be reduced in the basin.

  • What I would like to expect about this mater is that Korea would develop unique techniques of the waste water which are most suitable to social and other relevant conditions of that country, not entirely following models of sewerage construction of U.S.A. or European countries or Japan. Some cements will be made in the followings: (1) The investigation for the diffusion of seperated simple public sewerag, not the large scale sewerage treatment plant. (2) The plan for non-mixed treatment of lining waste water and industrial waste water. (3) Suggestion for "a man of ability" at the university education to cultivate a technologist of facilities and the elemental watchman at the sewerage maintenance.
