The cycle performance of closed ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) system with 50 kW gross power was evaluated to obtain the basic data for the optimal design of OTEC using waste heat such as solar power, discharged heat from condenser of power plant. The basic thermodynamic model for OTEC is Rankine cycle, and the surface seawater and deep seawater were used for the heat source of evaporator and condenser, respectively. The cycle performance such as efficiency, heat exchanger capacity, etc. was analyzed on the variation of temperature increase by waste heat. The cycle efficiency increased and necessary capacity of evaporator and condenser decreased under 50kW gross power with respect to the temperature increase of working fluid. Also, when the temperature increase is about $13.5^{\circ}C$, the heat which can be used is generated. By generator with 0.9 effectiveness under the simulated condition, the cycle efficiency was improved approximately 3.0% comparing with the basic cycle.
Waste to Energy Plant were recognized as hateful facilities, and there were many conflicts in the location due to social problems such as the NIMBY phenomenon due to problems such as damage to property in the surrounding area, odor, and image loss. Problems such as air pollution and odor are solved by the development of advanced prevention facilities such as electric dust collectors, wet cleaning systems, semi-dry reaction towers, bag filters, and catalyst towers (SCR: Selective Catalytic Reduction), and air recycling facilities in waste storage tanks. However, it is being avoided because of the perception that it is an incinerator. To resolve these conflicts, the government installs and operates resident convenience facilities to compensate residents near resource recovery facilities, provides green space and improves the environment, and supports heating expenses in accordance with the 「Waste Treatment Facility Support Act」. The purpose of this study is to derive implications through the analysis of domestic and overseas case studies for resident convenience facilities and environment improvement for the promotion of local communities in resource recovery facilities and use them as basic data for community promotion and environmental improvement when installing resource recovery facilities in the future.

Recently, interest in alternative energy has been increasing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel consumption in accordance with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC). Accordingly, there is a need to use waste heat that unused throughout industrial systems for lowering the concentration of energy on fossil fuels. In particular, government support projects for the energy recycling of agriculture and fisheries such as cultivation of tropical crops and aquaculture are being actively carried out by utilizing waste heat and thermal effluents caused from large-scale industrial complexes including power plants. The study was conducted on supplier (power plant), consumer (farmer) and stakeholders (constructor and local governments) of domestic demonstration areas using waste heat that is abandoned from the power plant in the form of thermal effluents. It investigated the overall improvement and feasibility of government funded projects through field interviews and questionnaire-type surveys. The results of this study are expected to provide basic directions for the operation of the project in terms of nationwide expansion and diffusion of the heat source supply project at horticultural greenhouse by utilizing the thermal effluents from power plant.

Organic Rankine cycle (ORC) is an useful cycle for power generation system with low temperature heat sources ($80{\sim}400^{\circ}C$). Since the boiling point of operating fluid is low, the system is used to recover the low temperature heat source of waste heat energy. In this study, a ORC with R134a is applied to recover the waste energy of condenser of coal fired power plant. A system model is developed via Thermolib$^{(R)}$ under Simulink/MATLAB environment. The model is composed of a refrigerant heat exchanger for heat recovery from coal fired condenser, a drum, turbine, heat exchanger for ORC heat rejection, storage tank, water recirculation pump and water drip pump. System analysis parameters were heat recovery capacity, type of refrigerants, and types of turbines. The simulation model is used to analyze the heat recovery capacity of ORC power system. As a result, increasing the overall heat transfer coefficient to become the largest of turbine power is the most economical.
Recently, the whole world is concerned about the saving energy and protective environment, so interest is increasing in new and renewable energy. Specially the Bioenergy continuity is possible, the research is advanced by the energy which it contributes in environmental conservation. From the research which it sees consequently it investigates about co-generation system of domestic bio-energy, it is used to analyze the electricity and heat energy of buildings that Energy Consumption Survey of Korea Energy Management Corporation and food waste generation quantity of Ministry of Environment. This paper is analyzed that application of food waste Biogas plant system.
A life cycle impact assessment was applied in an industrial waste incineration plant to evaluate the direct and indirect environmental impacts based on toxicity and non-toxicity categories. The detailed life cycle inventory of material and energy inputs and emission outputs was compiled based on the realistic data collected from a local industrial waste incineration plant, and the Korean life cycle inventory and ecoinvent database. The functional unit was the treatment of 1 tonne of industrial waste by incineration and the system boundary included the incineration plant and landfilling of ash. The result on the variation of the impact by the unit processes showed that the direct impact was decreased by 79.3, 71.6, and 90.1% for the processes in a semi dry reactor, bag filter, and wet scrubber, respectively. Considering the final impact produced from stack, the toxicity categories comprised 91.7% of the total impact. Among the toxicity impact categories, the impact in the eco-toxicity category was most significant. A separate estimation of the impact due to direct and indirect emissions showed that the direct impact was 97.7% of the total impact. The steam recovered from the waste heat of the incineration plant resulted in a negative environmental burden.

Recently, the demand for energy efficiency improvement technology through the connection of waste heat energy and SmartGrid has been increasing. Thus, investments for the cultivation of high value crops and produce is increasing through research aimed at synthetic technology in real-time utilization of smart farms and waste heat energy with the concept of using container greenhouses and plant factories. In this aspect, we have carried out research on a practical application technology that will help farmers to increase the economic effectiveness of LED based plant factories in terms of energy efficiency. This can provide opportunities to connect with the large scale automated smart farms in the future. In this study, we focused on the economic effectiveness of crop cultivation using cooling technology in a container greenhouse through waste heat energy. Hereafter, in order to further advance the technology of real-time monitoring/control of the absorption chiller which is used through the container greenhouses and waste heat energy by using IOT, we would like to propose research on new ideas of agricultural technology that can maximize the utility of cooling energy by operating a mobile gateway based on Raspberry PI.
Treating methods and characteristics of waste from a nuclear fuel powder conversion plant were studied. To recovery or treat a trace uranium in liquid waste, the ammonium uranyl carbonate(AUC) filtrate must be heated for $CO_2$ expelling, essentially. Uranium content of final treated waste solution from fuel powder processes for a heavy water reactor(HWR) could be lowered to 1 ppm by the lime treatment after the ammonium di-uranate(ADU) precipitation by simple heating. Otherwise, in case of the waste from fuel powder processes for a pressurized light water reactor(PWR), it is result in 0.8 ppm as a form of uranium peroxide such as $UO_4{\cdot}2NH_4F$ compounds. Optimum condition was found at $101^{\circ}C$ by the simple heating method in case of HWR powder process waste. And in case of PWR powder process waste, optimum condition could be obtained by precipitating with adding hydrogen peroxide and adjusting at pH 9.5 with ammonia gas at $60^{\circ}C$ after heating the waste In order to expelling $CO_2$. As the characteristics of recovered uranium compounds, median particle size of ADU was increased with pH increasing in case of HWP waste. Also, in case of uranium proxide compound recovered from PWR waste, the property of $U_3O_8$ power obtained after thermal treatment in air atmosphere was similar to that of the powder prepared from AUC conversion plant.
The thermochemical recycling of waste tires by pyrolysis is studied to recover the value added three by-products; a pyrolytic carbon black, a pyrolytic oil, and a non-condensable gas. The exhausted energy from pyrolysis of waste tires is converted for electricity power and process steam in cogeneration system. The characteristics of the pyrolysis recovered by-products as alternative energy resource are investigated with the design of a demonstration and a commercialization plant including cogeneration system, as called integrated pyrolysis cogeneration system.
Vitrification of radioactive liquid waste (RLW) provides a feasible solution for isolating radionuclides from the biosphere for an extended period. In vitrification, base glass and radioactive waste are added simultaneously into the melter. Determination of heat and mass transfer rates is necessary for rational design and sizing of melter. For obtaining an assured product quality, knowledge of reaction kinetics associated with the thermal decomposition of waste constituents is essential. In this study Thermogravimetry (TG) - Differential Thermogravimetry (DTG) of eight kinds of nitrates and two oxides, which are major components of RLW, is investigated in the temperature range of 298-1273 K in the presence of base glasses of five component (5C) and seven component (7C). Studies on thermal behavior of constituents in RLW were carried out at heating rates ranging from 10 to $40\;K\;min^{-1}$ using TG - DTG. Thermal behavior and related kinetic parameters of waste constituents, in the presence of 5C and 7C base glass compositions were also investigated. The activation energy, pre-exponential factor and order of the reaction for the thermal decomposition of 24% waste oxide loaded glasses were estimated using Kissinger method.
