  • As one of the resource recovery projects, this study aims to select natural fibers and synthetic fibers that can be used for concrete mixing among waste fibers and reuse them for the base concrete mixture. Using waste fiber, we seek a solution to the problem of reduced fluidity and hardening time of fiber-reinforced concrete and find the optimal mix of the ground concrete mixed with waste fiber.

  • This study suggests the optimum deconstruction management system for minimizing construction waste and increasing reuse and recycle rate of material to be different from traditional demolition. The purpose of this system is to minimize environmental damages and reduce construction waste quantity of a country by planning and operating preliminarily estimation of demolition quantity, demolition methods of each structural elements and reuse or recycle methods of C&D waste. This system is consist of four modules such as planning of preliminary demolition survey, estimating of demolition quantity, planning of demolition schedule and planning of construction waste management, and these all modules can be used individually module according to user's utilization purpose.

  • The research is to discuss the current resource recycling and recovery policy, which was enacted by Environmental Protection Administrative (EPA) in Taiwan. For the past few years, the solid waste generated in Taiwan has greatly increased about 5 % per year. In addition to the construction of landfill sites and incineration plants, 4 R techniques (Reduction, Reuse, Recycle and Recovery) were also publicized among the citizens and then promulgated to furthermore manage these increased solid waste. Although the regulations have been carried out to a great success, they still need to be revised and updated since solid waste contains varieties of different materials. Therefore, this research discusses the current regulation and makes suggestion for future regulation revision. From the results of this study, energy recovery was suggested to be emphasized in the regulation. Energy could be recovered from materials such as waste tires, and all kinds of plastic containers. Waste tires and most of the plastic containers made of hydrocarbon species, which contains great heating values, should be considered as one of the alternatives for the resource recycling.

  • About 35 domestic incinerators are being operated currently. There is waste management policy to reuse waste efficiently and reduce waste through incineration which include reuse, recycling and energy recovery. However, there is a critical social issue that some heavy metals(Cu, Pb) were found in bottom ash from incineration of waste. After incineration, bottom ash is treated with chemicals to prevent second pollution of heavy metals from bottom ash and increase efficiency of heavy metal stabilization.

  • In our country, most of the wood resources are imported. We faced a continuous rising of wood price by export country's some conditions and excess rising of transport charge, also a shortage of structural size members. In these situation, recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes under wood processing industry, building construction and demolition is not a option but a prerequisite. In our country, there is a dearth of data on recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes, so the investigation on the necessity of recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes was conducted by using the foreign data and documents. First of all, fields and actual conditions for the domestic wood processing industry were surveyed. Then, kinds and signification of wood residues and wastes were organized. Later, the necessity and the signification of recycling or reuse of wood residues were investigated, and postulations for effective recycling and reuse were suggested. Above all, the necessity of grading standards for reuse or recycling and some important consideration for developing grading standards were emphasized. At last, foreign research tendencies and some applications on recycling or reuse of wood residues and wastes were supplemented.

  • In recent years there has been a steady increase in geoenvironmental engineering research where geotechnical engineering has been combined with environmental concerns in the field of construction and industrial waste reusing in civil works. Many of these projects involve some investigation on the characteristics of geotechnical and environmental properties. In this study, investigation and test on the characteristics of demolished waste concrete was carried out to detect the physical, mechanical, and environmental properties for reusing as embankment and backfill materials in civil works.

  • Presently, the reuse of waste FCC catalysts, which generated from the refining process of crack oil, after the removal of con-taminated metallic impurities have not been attempted domestically yet because the separation technology f3r the impurities from waste catalysts has not been established. As a basic study far the reusable portion from the waste FCC catalysts and treatment of metallic impurities are assured, there will be invoked an significant contribution not only in the recycling of abandoned wastes up to date but also in the treatment efficiency of wastes and extraction of economical benefits from them. The magnetic separation of impurities such as Fe, Ni, and V, from waste FCC catalyst has been attempted with or without its pre-oxidation at high temperature for the purpose of its reuse. The results showed that the separability of impurities by magnetic force was high far non-preoxidized catalysts compared with preoxidized ones, and employment of screen-type matrix showed a higher separation efficiency than ball-type matrix. The separability increased with the strength of magnetic field, and the method of ball matrix has separation efficiency of maximum 51.10%. The amount of metallic impurities was in the decreasing order of V, Ni, and Fe depending upon ICP analysis.

  • The waste management system has become social problem all over the world since it is too much to control the waste generated during the economic development. Therefore Human being should minimize the dispersion of useful materials on the earth which is limited by means of recycle and reuse, and should maximize the use of solar energy which is almost infinite.
