  • The utilization of incineration ash from municipal waste must be promoted to solve the social problem on the shortage of final disposal site. In this research, metals should be recovered to avoid the damage of the crushing machine during the utilization of incineration ash in cement industry. In fact, incineration bottom ash from municipal waste contains iron in 3-5%. Nonferrous metal and stainless steel in 1% is also included. The research and development on the physical recovery process was performed not only to remove the metals but also to recover high grade products. Metals were separated from incineration ash in Maruya Co. Ltd.. In fact, iron scrap recovered by magnetic separation can be selled. After that, mixed metal was separated from incineration ash using screen. In this research, mixed metal tried to divided copper, aluminum, brass and stainless steel using drum type magnetic separation, eddy current separation and high magnetic separation. As a result, recovered iron had an 80% for the grade. Aluminum was recovered by eddy current separation without copper and brass.

  • Recently, 67% of defect and tenant lawsuits were identified as leaks due to cracks. In particular, when the final finish of the roof of a building is designed with base concrete, complex deterioration occurs due to the harsh environment such as shrinkage and expansion due to external temperature changes, freezing and thawing, and the use of calcium chloride due to snow accumulation. Therefore, it is intended to secure long-term durability by reducing cracks in the base concrete by using waste fibers, which are industrial by-products.

  • As amount of waste matter rapidly increases with fast growth of cities and industry, how to dispose them has arisen as an important problem. Current policy of the government on disposal of waste is repressing generation of waste itself and in case of already generated waste, resource cycle waste management system that recycles waste after proper environmental process is getting established. Therefore recycling of waste and industrial by-products is rising hugely. One of largely wasted matters is waste gypsum, which was categorized as designated waste but changed to general since 1994. Due to disposal cost and lack of impurities removal technology, recycling of it was quite low. However, as impurities removal technology using semi-dried desulfurization process is developed lately, study on recycling of waste gypsum is going on lively. This study examines possibility of utilizing waste gypsum as alternative for concrete cement and analyzed attributes of waste gypsum before and after ball mill process to find out proper alternation ratio, and conducted strength and property tests on concrete subject whose percentage of cement use is substituted with 0, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 and 12.5% of waste gypsum.

  • Fashion industry constantly produces and consumes, which leads to huge waste piles of perfectly usable textiles in landfills, as well as other negative effects of an exploitative and excessively rapid fashion process. Pollution created by making and dyeing clothes has pitted fashion industry and environmentalists against each other. In this context, upcycling is seen as an optimal way to solve the growing problem of waste in fashion industry. The first purpose of the study was to analyze the relationships between upcycling fashion products' perceived value, pro-environmental beliefs, attitudes, electronic word of mouth (eWOM) intention, and purchase intention. The second purpose is to verify the difference of perceived consumption value among the consumers' awareness level and purchase experience. A total of 258 valid responses obtained from a group of 20-30-year-old participants were collected through an online survey. SPSS 23.0 and Amos 18.0 programs were used for data analysis. The results of the present study suggest that there are significant effects of upcycling fashion products' perceived value on pro-environmental belief; furthermore, pro-environmental belief was found to positively influence attitude, eWOM intention, and purchase intention. In addition, there are differences of perceived consumption value among the consumers' awareness level and purchase experience. Taken together, the results of this study provide researchers and practitioners with a deeper understanding of consumers' values, beliefs, attitudes, and behavioral intentions towards upcycling fashion products.

  • Radionuclide deposited on the surface of several internal and external systems in a nuclear power plant is created by the activation of corrosion products from nuclear reactor structural materials and fission products. Especially, the constant contact between water and the surface corrodes the inside where primary system makes coolants and corrosion products mixed. Also, these are circulated along the systems. For comparing models, CRUDTRAN, DISER, MIGA-RT and CPAIR codes are analyzed to predict the quantity of radionuclide and corrosion product of primary reactor that are used at the stage of designing. The corrosion products behavior of domestic PWR primary system was predicted by using CRUDTRAN. This study aims to increase the reliability of corrosion product evaluation model by comparing the actual values and calculated values with the data of a Westing House-type Nuclear Power Plant.

  • Medium grade mongranular compound fertilizers for the crops under vinyl mulching cultivation were formulated using the principal materials of urea, DAP and MOP in combination with various fillers of zeolite, gypsum and treated human waste and granulated with waste liquid of glutamic acid fermentation as binder. The ratios of $N-P_2O_5-K_2O$ of trial products were 12-10-11.5 for red pepper, 8-8-6 for sesame and 4-9-14 for peanut. The rate of dissolution of trial products was comparatively low in water. The product for red pepper had N dissolution rate of 80 percent during 24 hrs. 70 for peanut and 55 for seasame. The optimum dissolution rate has reported to be 50 percent by the standard laboratory dissolution test for 24 hrs. in water. Therefore, the slowly released characteristics were obtained with the products that had 24 hrs. dissolution of 70 to 60 percent. One time basal application of trial products could readily be justified under muching cultivation.

  • Upcycling is a sustainable way to recycle waste resources and solve the global problem of environmental pollution. Upcycling is now attracting attention as fiberization and the disposal of waste clothing have become a serious issue. However, the customer's willingness to purchase upcycled products should be increased by propagating that the product value of a reborn commodity is of high value; these products are meant for new purposes and prepared with recycled materials. In this study, we created 11 designer items by applying an eco-friendly concept in the design process of upcycled textiles and products. From 2020 to 2021, a PBL(Problem Based Learning) curriculum was taught in design planning classes. The final 11 design items were derived after developing an eco-friendly product design for upcycled textiles. These final items were as follows: 5 fashion bags, 3 dog products, 1 clothing, 1 fashion accessory, and 1 sanitary mask design. In order to develop only one aesthetic design idea for upcycling, we considered the following features: user-centered convenience, functionality, and practicality. Then, tie-dye, drawing, patchwork, and embroidery were used to create innovative design items. The product design of recycled materials is based on high functionality, waterproofing, and the use of organic natural materials. The results of this study indicate that the creative product design of upcycling has contributed to a sustainable and eco-friendly environment. Related research studies must be conducted for innovating the continuous design process of the future.

  • White waste papers are very important resources in the paper industry, but their use is limited because of the residual of fluorescent whitening agent (FWA). So the removal of FWAs from waste paper is an important task in the recycling process to improve the use of recycled resources. In this study, we focused on the FWAs used for surface treatments and carried out physical and chemical treatments to remove them from white waste papers. The white waste papers were disintegrated with a surfactant in different pH and temperature conditions, and then handsheets were made for the measurement of the fluorescence index, which is proportional to the amount of FWAs on papers. The effect of the flotation process on the removal of FWAs after disintegration was also investigated. The fluorescence index decreased as the disintegration time increased, but over a relatively long time, the fluorescence index increased again, which indicated the readsorption of the FWAs detached from the cellulosic fibers of the white waste papers. The lowest fluorescence index was shown when the waste papers were disintegrated with a 0.3% surfactant addition at pH 10 and at $45^{\circ}C$. However, the flotation treatment was not effective, because the flotation induced contact between the detached FWAs and the cellulosic fibers, and re-adsorption occurred.
