For the past years, there had been some environmental cooperation among East Asian countries to reduce air pollution emissions from China. However, the progress of cooperation has been under developed because of lacking financial support, poor design of planning, and weak economic incentives for the industries. In this paper, some practical approaches have been suggested. First, electric trade to make Asian Grid among countries will be good alternatives for the fossil fuel, such as coal, for China. Secondly, natural gas pipeline from West China to Siberian pipeline would change the whole energy mix in this area around 2010, Therefore, it is very promising area for the energy industries to involve in gas project and get rid of many institutional barriers from China. Lastly, environmental industry is growing fast in East Asian. In China, waste treatment and management, air pollution control, and water quality management are some promising areas for the future. Hence it is desirable for Korea, Japan and China to make a eco-fund or company to boost up environmental technology as well as environmental market size.
This paper presents an effective cooling dehumidification method to remove odorous gas from food-wastes. The odorous gases, such as Styrene, Ammonia, Hydrogen sulfide and Acetaldehyde, are produced in environments where temperature is $50\sim80^{\circ}C$ and humidity is $40\sim70%$. Under such conditions, experiments are performed reiteratively using experiment equipments. The effect of the cooling dehumidification is measured via measuring instrument, and this research is focused on improving efficiency. The effect of cooling dehumidification using measuring instrument is validated. At $80^{\circ}C$, four type of gases that was mentioned previously showed generally better cooling efficiency with a good result for a component concentration. Among them, hydrogen sulfide gas demonstrated the highest reduction of 50%.

Unit costs for energy production in bioenergy facilities are dependent upon both fixed cost for facility construction and operational costs including biomass feedstock supply. With the increase of capacity, unit fixed cost could be decreased while supply cost tends to increase due to the longer transportation distance. It is desirable to take into account biomass availability in planning bioenergy facilities. A cumulative curve relationship was proposed to relate biomass availability and cumulative products of biomass amount and transportation distance. Optimum size of gasification facilities was affected by collection cost, biomass cumulative relationship. Based on biomass availability of Icheon-City, optimum sizes were about $400kW_{th}$ for gas production, and about $200kW_{el}$ for power generation. Unit cost of bioenergy production could be substantially reduced by reducing collection cost through supplying biomass from diverse sources including land development areas where significant amount of waste wood is generated. When planning bioenergy facilities, however, biomass availability and spatial distribution are key factors in determining the size of capacity.

Heat recovery steam generator(HRSG) is a principal component of the combined cycle power plant (CCPP) which utilizes the waste energy of the gas turbine exhaust gas. A design of the HRSG is a keypoint to achieve high cycle efficiency with competitive cost. This paper presents a brief review on the design of a HRSG which covers the basic design parameters and their effects on the performance and the investment cost. Finally the concept of the optimum design point is presented according to the selection of a pinch point temperature difference and a steam pressure as an illustrated case.
This study is to develop heat recovery system using high performance heat pipe heat exchanger for Middle-high temperature range industrial exhaust gas. The naphthalene is used as working fluid of heat pipe in this study. Single naphthalene heat pipe could transport over 2,000 watts with $0.05^{\circ}C/W$. The heat pipe heat exchanger consist of 50 naphthalene heat pipes recovered 62 kW when over $400^{\circ}C$ gas exhausted and the maximum recovered heat rate was 173 kW in this study.

GHP system utilize national gas as a heat source. It reduces electric peak demand in summer and maintains a constant performance in winter by recovering the waste heat from the engine. Although the initial investment cost of GHP is higher than that of EHP, the overall operating cost of GHP is cheaper than of the EHP. In this study, items for dissatisfaction were summarized based on the results of user questionnaire(200 users), and field tests were made for 10 GHP installation places. The measured COP was estimated much lower than the rated COP by the manufacturer mainly due to partial load operation.

This paper presents the heat recovery performance of water fluidized-bed heat exchanger. Temperature and humidity ratio of waste gas are considered as important parameters in this study. Therefore, the heat recovery rate through water fluidized-bed heat exchanger for exhaust gases with various temperatures and humidity ratios can be estimated from the results of this study. Mass flow ratio (the ratio of mass flow rate of water to that of gas) and temperature of inlet water are also considered as important operating variables. Increase of heat recovery rate can be obtained through either high mass flow ratio or low temperature of inlet water with resultant low recovered temperature. The heat recovery performance with the mass flow ratio of about up to 10 has been investigated. The effect of number of stages of water fluidized-bed on the heat recovery performance has been also examined in this study.

The stabilization and reclamation of old disposal sites is becoming more important as significant numbers of disposal sites are closed and abandoned. This technical paper covers an overview of the key issues and methodologies for stabilizing and constructing facilities on old landfills. The slide portion of this presentation also include photographs showing actual construction activities. The key issues that are prevalent in remediating and closing old landfills are : correcting the stormwater flow, leachate breakout, constructing cover caps, controlling landfill gas migration and odors, cleanup groundwater and stabilizing side slopes. Some key techniques for constructing facilities on old landfills include: use of piling, installation of active landfill gas systems, providing LFG barriers under buildings, using utilidors and flexible utility interfaces and designing for site settlement. This Paper provides proven conceptual methods for solving these problems.
In order to increase landfill gas (LFG) production with food waste leachate, this study was confirmed to be acidogenetic conditions for landfill site injection. Thereby, it was conducted for acidogenetic treatments to determine the decrease in viscosity and VFA production. After acidogenesis treatments, solubility of food waste leachate increased approximately 15%, and as a result, UASB and CSTR were similar by reactor type using the change of retention time. Based on the result of the change in viscosity by reactor type, efficiency of UASB showed approximately 11.38% of higher decrease in viscosity as $76.95{\pm}3.27%$ vs. CSTR. Also, VFA production showed the higher increase of 2.01 times (UASB) and 1.76 times (CSTR) respectively at the point of increasing retention time from 3 to 5 days. From the above results, efficiency of UASB in a reactor was relatively higher because large molecular lead to longer retention time than small molecular due to having screen effect in the fixed media.

For the conversion of domestic waste-wood into energy, a fixed bed gasifier ($0.9 m{\times}2.4 m$) having the capacity of 2 ton/day was designed and constructed. The dual knife valve was used to feed waste-wood of which size was 3~5 cm and a rotary stoker system was installed in the bottom of gasifier. The pilot gasification system consisted of feeding system, fixed bed gasifier, gravity fine particle collector, heat exchanger for syngas cooling, ID fan, and cooling tower. The operation temperatures of gasifier were $700{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$ and the concentrations of syngas were CO: 25~40 vol%, $H_2$: 7~12 vol%, $CH_4$: 2~4 vol%, $CO_2$: 12~24 vol%. The calorific value of syngas was $1100{\sim}1500kcal/Nm^3$ and was enough to be applied in the industrial combustor. Also the gas engine was operated by using syngas from biomass gasifier and produced 1~4 kW of power.
