  • Recently, the KFDA(Korea Food & Drug Administration) has announced that the Malachite Green was found from imported fishes and eels. Malachite Green is used for remedy of diseased fishes. The administration has a plan to intensify monitoring system for distribution of fishes. It is necessary to operate the improved warning system for public health.

A Study on the lightning Discharge Positioning (뇌방전 위치표정에 관한 연구(I))

  • Lightning warning system plays an important role in protecting human life and other facilities from lightning return strokes. This paper dealt with lightning positioning algorithms and circuits as a main function of lightning warning system, which monitor movements and activities of thunderclouds. Electric field component produced by lightning discharge is detected by the configuration of a whip antenna and a narrow-band resonance amplifier with center frequency of 300[kHz]. Measurement circuit of magnetic field waveform consists of a crossed-loop coil and an integral amplifier, and its frequency bandwidth is ranges from 5[kHz] to 1.2[MHz]. The polarity of lightning discharge is discriminated by electric field component. After-fixing the polarity, we can calculate the direction and distance of lightning discharge by the peak and the zero-cross time of magnetic field waveform.

Development of Real-Time Water Quality Abnormality Warning System for Using Multivariate Statistical Method (다변량 통계기법을 활용한 실시간 수질이상 유무 판단 시스템 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an warning system to detect real-time water quality abnormality using a multivariate statistical approach. In this study, we applied principal component analysis among multivariate data analyses which was used for the correlation between water quality parameters considering the real-time algorithm to determine abnormality in water quality. We applied our approach to real field data and showed the utilization of algorithm for the real-time monitoring to find water quality abnormality. In addition, our approach with Korea Meterological Adminstration database identified heavy rain data due to climate change is one of the most important factors to explain water quality abnormality.

  • In this paper, we introduce a warning message providing methodology by considering the elderly's walking behavior in V2P(: Vehicle-to-Pedestrian) communication systems. Using the elderly's accident records in Kyounggi-do area from 2011 to 2014, the elderly's accident behaviors are analyzed by categorizing accidents as road type (single road/ crossing road), existence of traffic signal (with signal/ without signal), existence of crosswalk (crosswalk/ jaywalk), cause of accident (jaywalk/ signal violation/ carelessness accident/ Etc.). In addition, the elderly's behavior variable and vehicle speed are applied, then some threshold values are utilized in a warning message providing in conflict area. Finally, we propose a distance which can protect an accident depending on the elderly's walking speed, safety margin and vehicle speed. By applying the results of this research to the V2P/P2V communication based road safety message providing system with the elderly's walking behavior, it may be helpful to reduce accident rate of the elderly.

  • The number of large and complex buildings is growing and they are usually concentrated in metropolitan cities. There is a possibility in such buildings that a small accident can expand to a massive disaster since their scale and complexity. To deal with this issue, a research on gas sensors which can detect multiple gases and early-warning systems has been conducted. Proper criteria or standards are necessary for effective application and operation of such sensor-based disaster monitoring system. In this study, we have proposed the alarm criteria of concentration of hazardous gases for the detection and the alarm release. For each alarm level, systematic disaster response plans consist of responsive actions and information delivery have been prepared. These disaster monitoring criteria can help the detection of hazardous gas-related disaster in the early stage of accident and the provision of appropriate emergency responses.

  • The seismological observation of Korea began in 1905, and has been run with continuous earthquake network of observation, expanding to the advanced country, but still has some problems in accuracy and speed for report. There are many problems to announce the early warning system for earthquakes and tsunami in the East Sea because most events in the East Sea occur outside the seismic network. Therefore multi-waveform data conversion and composition from the surrounding countries such as Korea, Japan and Far East Russia are requested in order to improve more accurate determination of the earthquake parameters. We used FESNET(Far East Seismic Network) technology to analyze the May 29 and June 1 Earthquakes, and the March 20, 2005 Fukuoka Earthquake in this research, using the data sets of KMA, Japan(JMA/MIED) and IRIS stations. It was found out that use of FESNET resulted in more better outputs than that of a single network, either KMA or JMA stations.

  • As the weather changes become frequent, weather disasters are increasing, causing more damage to plastic greenhouses. Among the damage caused by various disasters, damage by snow to the greenhouse takes a relatively long time, so if an alarm system is properly prepared, the damage can be reduced. Existing greenhouse design standards and snow warning systems are based on snow depth. However, even in the same depth, the load on the greenhouse varies depending on meteorological characteristics and snow density. Therefore, this study aims to secure the structural safety of greenhouses by developing sensors that can directly measure snow loads, and analysing the warning criteria for load using a stochastic model. Markov chain was applied to estimate the failure probability of various types of greenhouses in various regions, which let users actively cope with heavy snowfall by selecting an appropriate time to respond. Although it was hard to predict the precise snow depth or amounts, it could successfully assess the risk of structures by directly detecting the snow load using the developed sensor.

Early warning of hazard for pipelines by acoustic recognition using principal component analysis and one-class support vector machines

  • This paper proposes a method for early warning of hazard for pipelines. Many pipelines transport dangerous contents so that any damage incurred might lead to catastrophic consequences. However, most of these damages are usually a result of surrounding third-party activities, mainly the constructions. In order to prevent accidents and disasters, detection of potential hazards from third-party activities is indispensable. This paper focuses on recognizing the running of construction machines because they indicate the activity of the constructions. Acoustic information is applied for the recognition and a novel pipeline monitoring approach is proposed. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is applied. The obtained Eigenvalues are regarded as the special signature and thus used for building feature vectors. One-class Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used for the classifier. The denoising ability of PCA can make it robust to noise interference, while the powerful classifying ability of SVM can provide good recognition results. Some related issues such as standardization are also studied and discussed. On-site experiments are conducted and results prove the effectiveness of the proposed early warning method. Thus the possible hazards can be prevented and the integrity of pipelines can be ensured.

Design of Simulator for Missile Warning Radar of GVWS (지상 기동 무기 체계 탑재 미사일 경고 레이더 시뮬레이터 설계)

  • To analyze and verify the performance of a MWR(Missile Warning Radar) of a GVWS(Ground Vehicle Weapon System), there is a need to make a simulator which can conduct the linked and engaged test virtually using the simulated signals. In this paper, a method of the simulator design for MWR is proposed to solve the above need. The SP(Signal Processor) part which generates the simulated signals and analyzes the algorithms is explained. The RF(Radio Frequency) part which transforms IF(Intermediate Frequency) signals into RF signals, radiates RF signals, and controls the linked equipments is also explained. The utility of the proposed design is proved by presenting the results of the contributions to the development of MWR.
