  • Formwork is a temporary structure that supports its weight and that of fresh concrete as well as construction live loads. Scaffoling is a temporary frame used to support people and material in the construction or repair of buildings and other large structures. It is usually a modular system of metal pipes, although it can be made out of other materials. Bamboo is still used in some Asian countries like China. The purpose of a working scaffold is to provide a safe place of work with safe access suitable for the work being done. In construction site, steel pipes are usually used as scaffolds. In this study, scaffolding systems which is changed according to sleeper and joist space were measured by buckling test. Buckling load of respective scaffolding system was analyzed by structural analysis program(MIDAS). Buckling load of scaffold with/without wall connection and footboard was got by test and structural analysis. According to these results,we know that scaffolding system of case 3 is suitable. Buckling load of scaffold with wall connection is higher than without wall connection. So wall connection is important in scaffoling systems. Footboard in the scaffolding systems is not effective against promotion of buckling load. Finally, the present study results will be used to design scaffolding systems safely in the construction sites.

  • Floor impact sound has been most annoying for years among the noises which are produced in apartment. This study aims to analyze the improvement of floor impact sound by comparing the results of the test which was carried out for the wall slab type apartment and moment frame apartment, and also for the effect of advanced vibration isolation layer. Moment frame structure that main structure consists of column and slab has shown better performance for the heavyweight impact sound comparing with wall slab type structure which is general type in Korea. Stiffness of floor system was raised by reinforcing the stiffness of vibration isolation layer, and it was analyzed how much the floor impact sound performance was improved. The result showed that the reinforced floor had better performance than the existing floor system that uses lightweight porous concrete as vibration isolation material. In addition, a system used wire mesh in mortar showed improvement of floor impact sound than a system without wire mesh, and better performance for the frequency bands lower than 160 Hz which causes floor impact problem in wall slab type apartment.

  • A Study on the trombe wall system, a kind of passive solar systems, has been performed numerically. The system is treated as a two-dimensional steady turbulent natural convection including constant heat source per unit area. The numerical code, "PHOENICS, " was employed to analyze this conduction-convection conjugated heat transfer. The general mode of the flow field was examined, and the exchange of mass between two recirculating flows is found to be the major mechanism of the heat transfer. It is shown that the performance is affected by the changes in the geometrical factors-the thickness of the wall, the width between the windowand the wall, and size of the vents. Further analysis has been performed to show the optimal geometry with regard to the last two factors.o factors.

  • Technologies for preventing contaminants deposition are a key issue in a modern duct system. When particulate matters deposit inside the exhaust pipes, which are widely used in the Urea-SCR system to reduce $NO_x$ emission from heavy duty diesel engines, many problems arise associated with increased flow resistance and corrosion. Therefore, the development of the urea deposition avoidance technologies is being treated as an important issue of the Urea-SCR system. An analytical study was carried out to investigate the effects of the wall flow around the mixer with the variation of the mixer housing surrounding and supporting the mixer, which is designed to increase the wall flow and then to reduce droplet deposition. The housing angles and the position of the mixer were changed:angles of $0^{\circ}$, $1^{\circ}$, $2^{\circ}$, and $3^{\circ}$, and mixer positions of 0 L, 0.5 L, and 1 L. The axial velocity distributions, maximum velocity, the half-width, and momentum distribution of the wall flow were investigated to examine the effect of the mixer-housing assembly geometry.

  • Segmental Grid Retaining Wall is one of the segmental grid retaining walls using headers and stretchers to establish the framework of the wall In this method, grids formed by the intersection of headers and stretchers are generally filled with the gravel to maintain the weight of the wall Therefore, the construction can be carried out with higher speed and much economically when compared with the concrete retaining wall Furthermore, it has high drain capacity, and environmentally friendly aspects also have been pointed out because the possibility of the planting at the front of the wall However, in the segmental grid retaining wall method, the relative movement between the individual headers and stretchers was generally recognized, and stress redistribution in the gravel filling was also observed when subjected to the external loading and self-weight of filling Therefore, it has been thought that the distribution of the earth pressure in the segmental grid retaining wall system differ from that of the concrete retaining wall In this study, the surcharge tests using the scaled model segmental grid retaining wall was carried out to observe the distribution of the earth pressure in the segmental grid retaining wall The earth pressure was measured in the six specified height of wall, and the distribution of the pressure was analyzed. Furthermore, the earth pressure by computation or by the test using the concrete retaining wall was also considered to make comparison

  • Literature regarding concrete walls reinforced by super elastic shape memory alloy (SMA) bars is rather limited. The seismic behavior of a system concurrently including a distinct steel reinforced concrete (RC) wall, as well as another wall reinforced by super elastic SMA at the first story, and steel rebar at upper stories, would be an interesting matter. In this paper, the seismic response of such a COMBINED system is compared to a conventional system with steel RC concrete walls (STEEL-Rein.) and also to a wall system with SMA rebar at the first story and steel rebar at other stories ( SMA-Rein.). Nonlinear time history analysis at maximum considered earthquake (MCE) and design bases earthquake (DBE) levels is conducted and the main responses like maximum inter-story drift ratio and residual inter-story drift ratio are investigated. Furthermore, incremental dynamic analysis is used to accomplish probabilistic seismic studies by creating fragility curves. Results demonstrated that the SMA-Rein. system, subjected to DBE and MCE ground motions, has almost zero and 0.27% residual maximum inter-story drifts, while the values for the COMBINED system are 0.25% and 0.51%. Furthermore, fragility curves show that using SMA rebar at the base of all walls causes a larger probability of exceedance 3% inter-story drift limit state compared to the COMBINED system. Static push over analysis demonstrated that the strength of the COMBINED model is almost 0.35% larger than that of the two other models, and its general post-yielding stiffness is also approximately twice the corresponding stiffness of the two other models.

  • This study had the goal of analyzing the economic feasibility and constructability of a fire resistant curtain wall system using Light-weight Inorganic Composite Foam Board(LI-CFB). LI-CFBs, new materials with excellent fire resistance are being developed for use as the back panel of curtain wall and their fire resistance has already been analyzed through actual tests in earlier studies. In this study, a mock-up test involving the installation of the fire resistant curtain wall system on an actual building was conducted, and the system was compared with a common curtain wall system. This system is applied in the same way as a common curtain wall system. But the cutting LI-CFBs, which are brought from a factory, are used in the system and attached on the frame (mullion and transom). Even though the system requires more working time than the existing system, the LI-CFBs back panels are easy to cut and do not produce dust. Also, the panels are able to be assured the quality by checking damaged parts easily. Besides having a high level of fire resistance, the system's economic feasibility and constructability meets or exceeds those of the existing system.

  • This paper addresses the optimal design of dividing wall distillation column which is rapidly applied in a variety of chemical processes over recent several years because of its high energy saving efficiency. A general dividing wall column model which can cope with the heat transfer through the dividing wall is developed using rigorous computer simulation. Based on the simulation model, the effects of the internal recycle flow distribution around the dividing wall and the heat transfer across the dividing wall on overall system performance are investigated. An improved method is suggested to utilize the heat transfer through the wall to optimal column design. The suggested method is compared with the existing method via. simulation study and shows more improved energy saving result. Several control strategies for the divided wall column are tested and the optimal control strategy is propose

  • The present study investigates turbulent flows subject to strong wall injection in a channel through a Direct Numerical Simulation technique. These flows are pertinent to internal flows inside the hybrid rocket motors. A simplified model problem where a regression process at the wall is idealized by the wall blowing has been studied to gain a better understanding of how the near-wall turbulent structures are modified. As the strength of wall blowing increases, the turbulence intensities and Reynolds shear stress increase rapidly and this is thought to result from the shear instability induced by the injected flows at the wall. Also, turbulent viscosity grows rapidly as the flow moves downstream. Thus, the effect of wall-blowing modifies the state of turbulence significantly and more sophisticated turbulence modeling would be required to predict this type of flows accurately.

  • Since the wall mobility of bubble magnetic materials havin g the large q (q=Kac/2$\pi$$M_s^2$) like a $YFeO_3$ has been found to be proportional to the wall energy theoretically crystallographical direction dependence of wall energy calculated by the basis on the spin configuration of the bubble wall which lies in the ac plane was compared with the crystallographical direction dependence of wall mobility which was measured by the experiment. The sample was a single crystal of $YFeO_3$ which was cut into plate normal to the C axis and polished t a thickness of about 60${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ The measurement of the wall mobility was carried out by optical system using the magneto-optic Faraday effect. From the good agreement of the crystallographical direction dependence of wall mobility and will energy it was found that the spin configuration of the bubble wall suggested is fair.
