  • An experimental research has been carried out for flow control of the shock wave/turbulent boundary-layer interaction utilizing aeroelastic mesoflaps. Various shapes and thicknesses of the mesoflap are tested to achieve different deflections of the flap, and ail the results are compared to the solid-wall reference case without flow-control mechanism. Quantitative variation of skin friction has been measured downstream of the interactions using the laser interferometer skin friction meter, and qualitative skin friction distribution has been obtained by observing the interference fringe pattern on the oil-film surface. A strong spanwise variation in the fringe patterns with a narrow region of separation near the centerline is noticed to form behind the shock structure, which phenomenon is presumed partially related to three-dimensional flow structures associated with both the sidewalls and the bottom test surface. The effect of the shape of the cavity is also observed and it is noticed that the shape of the cavity is not negligible.

  • In the case of two-dimensional analysis generally applied in the analysis of Earth Retaining Wall, mutual interference occurs due to earth pressure, when the excavation width is small, and in the section where the excavation width is small, and the resulting influence makes it difficult to secure reliability in the horizontal displacement of the retaining wall when performing 2-dimensional analysis in a section with a small excavation width. This study performed two-dimensional and three-dimensional finite element analyses on excavation depth (H) and excavation width (B) under various conditions for the H-pile earth wall, in the geological conditions of clayey soil, sandy soil, and weathered rock, and examined the relationship between excavation width and horizontal displacement according to each condition, to identify the boundary of the excavation width, which is the range of mutual interference caused by earth pressure. As a result, it was possible to clearly distinguish the analytical boundary according to the excavation width only in the clayey soils with relatively large horizontal displacement. It is concluded that it is reasonable to perform a 3D finite element analysis, which is similar to the actual behavior, if the excavation scale (B/H) is 2.0 or less, with the digging width less than 12 m at a digging depth of 10 m or less, and with the the one less than 24 m at a digging depth of 10 m or more, and that 2-dimensional finite element analysis may be used in cases where the excavation width is greater than 12 m when the excavation scale (B/H) is 2.0 or more and the excavation depth is 10 m or less, and the excavation width is greater than 24 m at an excavation depth of 10 m or more.

  • Construction work is affected by the weather; e.g. snowfall, rainfall and low-high ambient temperature, especially at a site in a severe climate. The influence of the weather is one of the possible reasons for delays in a construction schedule and quality deterioration. To protect the worksite from severe weather conditions, the temporary roof and wall could be installed on the outside of main structures designed in advance and the temporary structures could be took down after a period use. The greater coverage all-weather construction method is applied, the larger the effect. so, it is important and needs that the temporary roof and wall can be widely applied, designed to effectively about structure and layout.

  • Since the turn of the century there has been a constant search for a satisfactory method of controlling a large intrathoracic space following lobectomy. Primarily these methods consist of thoracoplasty, plombage, and phrenic nerve paralysis which are not completely satisfactory for they may result in loss of chest wall motility or diaphragmatic function. Incising the diaphragm at its periphery and resuturing to the chest wall at a level several rib spaces higher is an effective method of reducing intrathoracic space with minimal interference with pulmonary function. It is of particular value when the anticipated space problem is in the lower part of the thoracic cavity. Five cases are presented in which the diaphragm was peripherally detached and advanced to higher levels. Two cases were following lower lobectomy and three cases were following decortication for chronic empyema in which expansion was not good enough to adequately fill the space. Results in these cases were satisfactory.

  • An acoustic field in a 3 dimensional enclosure is caused from interference between sound sources and the complex reflections from wall. Therefore, changing an acoustic property of wall such as admittance means generating another acoustic field. The purpose of this paper is utilizing the characteristic to make a quiet zone. First, this paper shows that the control material is essentially on the same road as active noise control(ANC). That is, we can consider the control material as the control source of ANC. However we cannot control the reflection strength of it. Second, through a numerical simulation, this paper shows that the position of the control material is an important variable of the control.

  • Three-dimensional vortical flow and separated flow topology near the casing wall in an axial flow fan having two different tip clearances have been investigated by a Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) flow simulation. The simulation shows that the tip leakage vortex formed close to the leading edge of the blade tip on suction side grows in the streamwise direction. On the casing wall, a separation line is formed upstream of the leakage vortex center due to the interference between the leakage vortex and main flow. The reverse flow is observed between the separation line and the attachment line generated downstream of the trailing edge, and increased with enlarging tip clearance. The patterns of a leakage velocity vector including a leakage flow rate are also analyzed according to two tip clearances. It is noted that the understanding of the distribution of a limiting streamline on the casing wall is very important to grasp the characteristics of the vortical flow in the axial flow fan.

  • The objective of the study is to establish a BIM modeling of precast concrete(PC) shear wall with various wall-to-base connections. The family library of PC shear wall was established in BIM program using component function in a IFC(Industry foundation classes) file format and SketchUp program. From the BIM program, the amounts of concrete, reinforcing bars and steel materials as well as the interference of arranged reinforcing bars can be accurately evaluated in the PC shear walls with spliced sleeves, bolt, or welding plate connection methods. Although the additional metallic materials such as steel plates, bolts, and nuts were used in the PC shear walls with welding plate connection method, their amounts of materials, economic efficiency, and environmental impact were similar to those with spliced sleeve connection. Consequently, the bolt or welding connection is a highly applicable method as wall-to-base connection of PC shear walls, and it was a more useful method than spliced sleeve method, particularly considering the constructability.

  • There are many causes of trismus. Aetiology can be roughly divided into muscle spasm, mechanical interference, extracapsular ankylosis, intracapsular ankylosis. Trismus caused by mechanical interference between postero-lateral wall of zygoma-maxillary complex and coronoid process following reduction of fractured facial bone is rare. Especially on maxillary bone fracture, when we faced the trismus following removal of intermaxillary fixation, we got used to solve that problem by physical exercise. We obtained good results by coronoidectomy on patients with limited mouth opening who were referred from department of plastic surgery, St. Marys' hospital, the Catholic university of Korea. We report our experience with literature review.
