  • This study was to quantitatively evaluate periodic and maximum energy loads for broiler-standard design models by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (2016). Building energy simulation method was used to compute heating and cooling loads of the designed broiler houses according to regional locations and insulation characteristics of wall and roof. It considered sensible and latent heat generation from broilers, dynamic operation of ventilation system according to environment variations. It was found that variation of periodic heating loads was relatively higher than that of periodic cooling loads according to thickness changes of wall and roof. Assuming that broiler was raised at every even-month, periodic heating and cooling loads were 6 and 18% lower, respectively than odd-month raising condition. When recommendation rules of insulation characteristics (wall and roof thickness) by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport was adopted, periodic heating load of Jeju-si was 20.3% higher than national average values. Based on the BES computed periodic and maximum energy loads under the designed experimental condition, these results can contribute to reestablishing standard design of broiler houses, especially for insulation characteristics, and designing management strategies for efficient energy uses.

  • This paper describes the experimental results of insulated concrete sandwich wall panels (CSWP) with corrugated glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) shear connectors under in-plane shear loading. Corrugated GFRP shear connectors were used to improve the thermal property of insulated CSWP and to achieve composite action between the interior and exterior concrete wall panels. Test specimens were consist of three concrete panels with two insulation layers between concrete panels and middle concrete panels was loaded in the direction of gravity. To evaluate the effects of insulation types (extruded polystyrene, XPSS and expanded polystyrene, EPS), shear connector pitch (300 and 400 mm) and width (10 and 15 mm) on in-plane shear behavior of insulted CSWP, failure mode and shear flow-average relative slip relationship of specimens were investigated. Test results indicate that the bond stress between concrete panel and insulation is considerable initially. Especially in case of insulated CSWP without shear connector, initial stiffness of CSWP with XPSS is superior to that of CSWP with EPS. The shear connector's contribution to in-plane shear performance of insulated CSWP depends on the type of insulation.

  • Structure Insulated Panel (SIP) is an wooden structure material with which structure and insulation functions are satisfied. Hence, it would be a cost-effective model to implement low energy house which has higher insulation and structure performance and which the wall thickness is able to be reduced. In this study, performance of thermal insulation and fire resistance were evaluated in order to verify applicability to low energy house. Fire resistance test is performed on vertical load bearing members for partitions, and the test results satisfy one hour of fire resistance condition according to KS F 2257. The members include two layers of fireproof gypsum board with thicknesses of 12.5mm attached to SIP. Thermal insulation performance is satisfied with the 2012 standard ($0.225W/m^2{\cdot}K$). As the performance of resistance and thermal insulation are satisfied, SIP is expected to be applied to low energy building materials. In the future, the structural safety will be confirmed by structural performance and seismic performance test and the guidelines for distribution will be drawn up.

  • In field of apartment housing currently, insulation technology is the most effective way because it is common to improve the thermal performance, therefore, it is contributed to energy saving as several regional insulation standards and legal mandate method. In addition, by applying of building energy efficiency rating certification system, it has inspired voluntary energy conservation commitment for the building owner or facility manager by making a plan to evaluate and verify building energy performance. However, these circumstances are not enough to acquire a grade 2 of higher information. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed the impact of building energy efficiency rating and confirmed reduction ratio compared to the standard housing on the basis of recent our nation building law when we had changed the shape of windows and wall insulation performance and shapes of housing.

  • Currently, porous materials (e.g., mineral wool) are the core materials used in offshore plant panels, but in spite of their superb acoustic performance, these items must be replaced for environmental reasons. A honeycomb structure is widely used throughout the industry because of its high strength-to-weight ratio. However, research in terms of noise and vibration is minimal. An acoustic study should be conducted by taking advantage of honeycomb structures to replace porous materials. In this study, a simulation was performed assuming that a honeycomb panel is a superposition of symmetric mode and antisymmetric mode. Reliability was verified by comparing a simulation results based on a theory with a experimental results, and the possibility of the panel as a core material was evaluated by studying the sound insulation characteristics of a honeycomb. As the panel thickness increased, the coincidence frequency shifted to low frequency. As the angle between horizontal line and oblique wall and cell-size decreases, the sound insulation performance is improved. And as the cell-wall thickness increased, the sound insulation performance improved.

  • Thermal analysis of cryogenic-capable vessels with insulations have been carried out to store liquid hydrogen($LH_2$). The combined insulations of MLI(Multi-Layer Insulation) and VCS(Vapor-Cooled Shield) under high vacuum are considered in the analysis for various volumes of vessels. Vapor-Cooled Shields(VCS) are installed at cylinder wall as well as disc side of the $LH_2$ vessels. The results indicate that optimal distribution of boiloff vapor from $LH_2$ vessel into two sides of VCS exists based on the evaporation loss. As the volume of $LH_2$ vessel is increased, mass flow rate of boiloff is increased while the evaporation loss per unit volume is decreased.

  • Korea's traditional house type, the Hanok, has been the essence of Korean domestic culture for hundreds of years. However, Hanok, have begun to disappear as result of urbanization. Because mud walls are crude and weak in water walls are also easily broken by impact. There are further problems in that construction cost is expensive and takes more time than modern house construction, and that the maintenance of Hanok is more difficult than people sometimes predict. Despite much interest in Hanok construction, there is a lack of in younger generation. Thus seeking new ways of maintaining Korea's traditional housing culture and extending Korean traditional houses is important. This study proposes directions for creating new residential environments for the future generation of Korea. A Dry-wall alternative to the Korean traditional mud wall is particularly needed. Dry-walling, made by sustainable materials such as mud board and wood, can strengthen the advantages and make up for the weaknesses of the Korea traditional mud wall. In this study, both wall types underwent various evaluations in terms of their performance in insulation testing, freezing and thawing testing, impacting testing and weight measuring (the size of material in this experiment was $69cm{\times}105cm$). On all of these tests, findings revealed that the dry-wall alternative performed better than traditional mud wall.
