A research on a simulator for a side walking path of a 16 degree-of-freedom (d.o.f) biped walking robot(BWR) which is composed of 4 d.o.f upper-part body and 12 d.o.f lower-part of the body is presented. For generation of stable side walking motion, the kinematics, dynamics and the zero moment of point(ZMP) of the BWR were analyzed analytically and included in the simulator. To operate the motion simulator for stable side walking of the BWR, a graphic user interface program was developed which needs inputs for the side distance between legs, base joint angle, walking type, and walking velocity. The simulator was developed to generate joint angle data of legs for side walking, and the data are transmitted to the BWR for stable side walking. In the simulator, a new path function for smooth walking motion was proposed and applied to the simulator and actual motion of a BWR. Also for actual side walking, an algorithm for estimating backlashes of the actuating joint motors was proposed and included in the simulator. To validate the performance of the proposed motion simulator, the simulator was operated and its side walking data of the simulator were generated for a period of side walking.
This paper presents a path planning algorithm for biped walking robot in 3-D workspace. Since the biped walking robot can generate path on some 3-D obstacles that cannot generate path in case of mobile robot, we have to make a new path planning algorithms. A 3-D-to-2-D mapping algorithm is proposed and two kinds of path planning algorithms are also proposed. They make it easier to generate an efficient path for biped walking robot under given environment. Some simulation results are shown to prove the effectiveness of proposed algorithms.

This paper presents a novel method of path planning for a quadruped walking robot on irregular terrain. In the previous study on the path planning problem of mobile robots, it has been usually focused on the collision-free path planning for wheeled robots. The path planning problem of legged roboth, however, has unique aspects from the point of viw that the legged robot can cross over the obstacles and the gait constraint should be considered in the process of planning a path. To resolve this unique problem systematically, a new concept of the artificial intensity field of light is numerically constructed over the configuration space of the robot including the transformed obstacles and a feasible path is sought in the field. Also, the efficiency of the proposed method is shown by various simulation results.

The purpose of this study is to compare and seize the type of the path of flow for nurses and living assistant, of the path of flow for evacuation and walking practice by analysis plan for the care facilities in the out-of-home service. It supposed many problem for living in the care facilities for the aged get down activity, especially their relates with difficulty in walking. And services of nurses and living assistant get mixed properties by that problem for the aged with difficulty in walking. It classified into T type, L type, H type, ${\Box}$ type, - type all the path of flow for nurses and living assistant on the longest from nursing station to each bedroom, the path of flow for evacuation from each room to exit, the path of flow for walking practice on the corridor and lobby. The three path of flow are influenced by an inner court, especially passable court is the important primary factor in the communication between the aged, a course and time required of flow.

This paper addresses the design and the gait control of quadruped walking robot. First, we concern the mechanical and electronical(control system) hardware of walking robot, and the second is the results of experiments. The walking robot is the most suitable form to substitute fot human being. So walking robot is worthy of research. The quadruped walking robot and control system is the simplest type of walking robot, therefore we designed a small seale robot for realization of static gait. The robot is designed commpactly and its legs are constructed parallel link type and able to move freely in space. Control system consists of one upper level controller and four lower level controllers. The upper level controller plans the walking path and commands the low level controllers to follow the planned path. The main function of low level cotrollers is control of motors. Total number of motors is twealve and they operate four legs. And robot is ordered to walk and realize static wave gait.

This paper addresses the vision based autonomous walking control system. To handle the obstacles which exist beyond the field of view(FOV), we used the 3d panoramic depth image. Moreover, to decide the avoidance direction and walking motion of a humanoid robot for the obstacle avoidance by itself, we proposed the vision based path planning using 3d panoramic depth image. In the vision based path planning, the path and walking motion are decided under environment condition such as the size of obstacle and available avoidance space. The vision based path planning is applied to a humanoid robot, URIA. The results from these evaluations show that the proposed method can be effectively applied to decide the avoidance direction and the walking motion of a practical humanoid robot.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare walking conditions (straight line and curved path) on walking patterns in persons who had experienced hemiplegic stroke and to determine whether if they adapt their walking pattern and performances according to changes in environmental conditions. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Forty-four hemiplegic stroke survivors participated in this study. This study measured walking performance in three different walking conditions, such as straight walking, the more-affected leg in the inner curve walking, and less-affected leg in the inner curve walking conditions, and a 2-dimentional gait analysis system was used as a primary measurement. This study also measured secondary clinical factors including the Timed Up-and-Go Test, the Trunk Impairment Scale, and the Dynamic Gait Index. Results: After analyzing, cadence and step length of the less-affected side, stride length in the more-affected side, and stride length in less-affected side were significantly different among the three different walking conditions in this study (p<0.05), but other temporospatial parameters were not significant. Cadence was the largest in the straight walking condition. Step length in the less-affected side, stride length in the more-affected side, and stride length in less-affected side were also the longest in the straight walking condition. Conclusions: The results of the study suggest that hemiplegic stroke survivors show walking adaptability according to changes in walking demands and conditions, and moreover, cadence and step and stride lengths were significantly different between straight and curved walking conditions.

When biped robots make turns, the ability to walk stably and precisely along any circular path is crucial. In this context, inverse kinematics solutions are found for accurate gait realization, and new zero moment point(ZMP) equations are derived with respect to the cyclindrical coordinate system to facilitate generation of stable walking patterns. Then, appropriate steady and transitional walking patterns are both proposed in form of time functons. Subsequently, walking patterns for a path but of different speeds are generated using the functions and associated formulas, and preliminarily checked for stability based on the ZMP equations. Upon comparison of those cases, one can see how and when robots may fall down during circular walking. Finally, those patterns are put to test on the sample robot by ADAMS(R) along with the inverse kinematics solutions and a new balance control scheme compensating for insufficient stability particulary during the initial transition period. Test results show that the robot can walk along the circular path as predicted at a resonably high speed despite the distributed mass and ground contact effects, validating effectiveness of the suggested approach.
The route finding analysis is an essential geo-related decision support tool in a LBS(Location based Services) and previous researches related to route guidance have been mainly focused on route guidances for vehicles. However, due to the recent spread of personal computing devices such as PDA, PMP and smart phone, route guidance for pedestrians have been increasingly in demand. The pedestrian route guidance is different from vehicle route guidance because pedestrians are affected more surrounding environment than vehicles. Therefore, pedestrian path finding needs considerations of factors affecting walking. This paper aimed to extract factors affecting walking and charting the factors for application factors affecting walking to pedestrian path finding. In this paper, we found various factors about environment of road for pedestrian and extract the factors affecting walking. Factors affecting walking consist of 4 categories traffic, sidewalk, network, safety facility. We calculated weights about each factor using analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Based on weights we calculated scores about each factor's attribute. The weight is maximum score of factor. These scores of factor are used to optimal pedestrian path finding as path finding cost with distance, accessibility.
