This study aims to analyze the style of men's suits and extract expressional words for the development of semantic differential scales of visual images according to the change in silhouette. Research methods are literature studies, case studies, and questionnaires. The stimuli were created using CLO 3D, a virtual sewing CAD. This study's results are as follows: 1) The British suit jacket has an angled shoulder line using thin pads, and a slightly higher waistline. The pants of the suit have a high waistline and two pleats, so the thighs of the pants are wide. The American suit jacket has a natural shoulder line, and the waistline is not emphasized. The width of the jacket is relaxed, and the length is long. The pants of the suit have a higher waistline, and the pants are wide as well. The Italian suit jacket has wide shoulders, and the waistline is connected lower with a soft curve, and the length is relatively short. The trousers of the suit are tapered and get narrower as it goes down to the hem. 2) Because it originated in the practices of true bespoke tailoring, traditional British suits have a far more 'fitted' silhouette than the mass-produced styles that became emblematic of the American style. By the late 1950s, a sack-style suit was standard American business attire. This technique gives the sack suit its characteristically 'boxy' silhouette. The "Continental" presented a highly tailored silhouette, with padded shoulders, a slim, tight-fitting chest, and a closely tapered waist. The story was that Italian culture valued aesthetics over all else and thus sought the 'slim' suit style as much as possible. 3) The main expressional words of visual images for men's suits differ greatly depending on the silhouette of suit. The visual images are ranked in the order of 'neat', 'classic', 'educated', 'hard', 'mature', for fitted silhouettes. The words of 'masculine', 'basic', 'comfortable', 'simple', 'mature', 'conservative', 'modern', are ranked for boxy silhouettes. And the words of 'slim', 'young', 'neat', are noted for slim silhouettes.
This study aimed to find the components of visual image by researching main image-related adjectives applied to high-waist skirts. In addition, it compared and analyzed the differences and mutual influences of visual images according to variations in the waistline and skirt length of high-waist skirts. The researchers made nine high-waist skirts-combinations of three different levels of waistlines and skirt lengths. The test involved 121 people who hold degrees in the field of Clothing and Textiles. The panels tested actual images of all models wearing the high-waist skirts shown on a computer screen. The results of the study are as follows.: Four factors affected the visual image as waist-height and skirt-length changed: attractiveness, upper-body compensation, length compensation, and hips compensation. Among these factors, attractiveness was estimated as the most important factor. The torso and the hip were highlighted as the waistline increased from 3cm to 11cm, due to the optical illusion of a tighter skirt wrapping the bust, waist, and hips. As the waistline increased, the stature and leg length increased, possibly revising the overall appearance. For the skirt length, a length measuring 20cm above the knees, proved to be most attractive. This resulted in elongated height and leg length, and a slimmer overall look.
The purpose of this study is to present basic data that can express beautiful silhouette by studying visual effect that depend on waist position of basic pants and the change of round belt width and analyzing the study of visual effect of the pattern design as well as the effect of design component. The stimuli are 21 samples: 7 variations of the location of the waistline and 3 variations of the width of the belt. The data has been obtained from 35 fashion design majors. The data has analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, anova, scheffe's test and the MCA method. The visual effects by the location of waistline and the width of belt are composed of 3 factors : horizontal direction factor, vertical direction factor and flexuosity factor. In these factors, horizontal factor is estimated by most important factor. Visual effect is positive when belt width widens as the location of waist line goes down to position of low belt. And in case the location of waist line is in the position of natural waist belt and low rise belt, belt of 3.2cm width is effective visually. The interaction effects between the location of the waistline and the width of the belt have significant differences in all factors. Factor that appears in visual effect of basic pants can be evaluated differently according to pattern of pants and characteristic of body shape. So we may receive better visual assessment if we consider the location of waist belt and width of belt in side of visual effect and image, when we produce pants giving variety to crotch depth.
This research was done to classify lower body types by direct measurements, side and back view types from waistline to gluteal furrow line individually, and to analyze correspondence these lower body types with side and back view types from waistline to gluteal furrow line. The subjects of this study were 191 female college students from 18 to 25 years old residing in Pusan urban area. Type 1(long and slim) of lower body types by direct measurements was correspond with Type 1(slim curve) and Type 4(slim and protrusive hip) of side view and Type 3(wide and curve) and Type 4(trapezoid shape) of back view. Type 2(short and thick) of lower body types was correspond with Type 3(thick and droopy hip) of side view and Type 1(wide and straight) of back view. Type 3(short and slim) of lower body types was correspond with Type 2(slim and flat hip) of side view and Type 2(narrow and curve) of back view.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the visual effects and images according to changes in the line and length of the connecting lines of the neck, center front, and hem line from analyzing the bolero style shown in 2005 S/S domestic fashion. The basic lines of the bolero were classified into three different categories according to the connecting lines of the neck, center front line, and hem line. We altered the length of the bolero in three categories with changes in the waistline-5cm, waistline-8cm, and waistline-11cm. For the visual evaluation, 9 stimuli were placed in mannequins, and were estimated by the experts in the fashion design. For the visual evaluation according to changes in the line and length of the bolero, we used 12 pairs of items to find the visual effects, and 13 pairs of adjectives to measure the visual images. The stimuli and adjectives were randomly given to the evaluators and were evaluated by the 7-Point Likert Type Scale. The data have analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, anova, scheffe's test. According to the result of factor analysis of the visual effects of the Bolero, the result was classified into 4 factors: the whole silhouette, neck line, breasts and shoulders. According to the result of factor analysis of the visual image of the Bolero, the result was classified into 3 factor: maturity, tenderness, neatness. The visual effects by variations in the line and length of the bolero had significant differences in all factors. The visual images by variations in the line and length of the bolero had significant differences in the maturity, tenderness, but they didn't show significant differences in neatness.
This study develops a coverall design for the body shape and movement of infants. This research analyzed these processes: 1. The current coverall styles preferred for infants. 2. The appropriate products for the real size, body shape, movement, and fit of infants. 3. The observations of the 6 months to 9 months movement and development of infants. 4. The design and creation of a new coverall base in this study, and to check the suitable test the developed coverall design for the infant. The result of this study are: A coverall for infants that lie or crawl on the floor must avoid opening in the center front and a gore has to be added at the crotch of the pants for the better movement of infants. These ways provide infants a neat appearance and easy movement. The test of developed designs shows that the developed coverall design covers the size gap of the trunk loop according to the growth of the infant and the movement of the legs; in addition it provides a positive aesthetic effect. The waistline in the developed coverall (a waistline that should exist lower than the body waistline of the infant) can reduce seam stress because the pressure of the seam line can be absorbed in a dipper. It is one of the suitable design points for infants lying prone all day long in this study.
The research thesis has been intended to make a comparative analysis on the basic bodice pattern and basic skirt pattern changing on the basis of setting waist line of dress form in an effort to set reasonable standards in selecting the standard lines of drees form. The thesis has made the wearing evaluation by producing the sample of upper and lower dress based on A pattern and B pattern. In details, A pattern functions to keep waist line flatly down from lateral waist-right to posterior waist in a little curved state, paralleling bust line and hipline with waistline. And, B pattern functions to keep waistline, bust line and hipline horizontal paralleling with ground surface. SPSS win 10.1 program was used for the analysis of evaluation and t-test. The result is as follows: For basic bodice-front of upper dress, A and B patterns have made little significant difference. With regard to basic bodice-back, B pattern has got the higher evaluation than A pattern, in the pattern stability and appearance. For basic skirt pattern, A pattern has got the lower evaluation in the aspect of total back appearance, back dart, hip line, and waist line, and front drape. Basic bodice pattern of A pattern, which takes on the different horizontal standard lines of dress form depending on the selection of waistline, and basic skirt pattern has scored less in terms of pattern stability and appearance.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of rope-skipping exercise on body composition and basic physical fitness in healthy subjects: a randomized control trial. Method : Twenty two subjects were randomly allocated to two groups: rope-skipping group (n=11) and control group (n=11). The rope-skipping group participated in rope-skipping exercise for 30 minutes a day, three days a week for four weeks. Body composition was measured using the subjects' weight, body mass index (BMI), and waistline. Basic Physical fitness was measured flexibility and agility. Result : The rope-skipping showed significant differences in waistline and agility. The control group showed no significant differences. There were significant difference in agility between the rope-skipping and the control group. Conclusion : The rope-skipping exercise increased waistline and agility in healthy subjects. Additional research on rope-skipping exercise for improving body composition and basic physical fitness is need.
This study aims to investigate the differences in blue jean styles and the visual images associated with them. To achieve this, literature reviews, case studies, and surveys were conducted. The results are as follows. 1) Based on previous studies, it was found that the design elements influencing the style of blue jeans and their visual images include waistline position, silhouette, details, decorations, and color. Additionally, differences in the preferences and visual evaluations of Korean and Chinese individuals regarding the style of blue jeans were confirmed. 2) Skinny blue jeans are typically characterized by a high waistline and a length that reaches the ankles, featuring a snug fit with stretchy fabric. Straight blue jeans, on the other hand, usually have a natural or high waistline and cover the instep, with a straight silhouette descending from the thigh to the hem. Bell-bottom blue jeans are primarily high-waisted and cover the instep with a silhouette forming a bell shape from the knee to the hem. 3) Korean and Chinese women in their 20s evaluated skinny, straight, and bell-bottom styles of blue jeans as having a 'casual' image. However, they also associated bell-bottom style blue jeans with 'unique' and 'attractive' images. Interestingly, Korean women described skinny-style blue jeans as making someone look 'youthful', while Chinese women perceived them as 'sophisticated', 'making the waist look thicker', and 'unassuming'. As for straight-style blue jeans, Korean women saw them as 'well-fitting', while Chinese women described them as 'making one appear taller', 'desirable', and 'free-spirited'.
This study seeks to increase the satisfaction of elderly men when purchasing and wearing ready-to-wear clothes by designing a slacks pattern suitable for their body type, which is determined by analyzing their lower bodies using virtual avatars and 3D virtual simulation system. The study found the following. First, based on virtual visualization of the comparison slacks pattern, the waistline position was consistently the lowest scored question among the evaluation survey items. Interpretation of this dissatisfaction suggests that, because the front waistline falls below the abdomen, the lower body, and especially the abdominal shape, is unpleasantly emphasized. Second, by using a virtual simulation system, the study developed a new slacks pattern that considered the concerns of elderly men. The primary measurement changes were as follows: front waist girth W/4+1.5cm+0.5cm, back waist girth W/4+1.5cm-0.5cm, front hip girth H/4+2.5cm-0.5cm, back hip girth H/4+2.5cm+0.5cm. Third, the new slacks pattern's appearance was evaluated more highly than the comparison pattern, confirming the new pattern's appropriateness for elderly men. This study demonstrates how slacks and other clothing patterns designed in a 3D virtual garment simulator can be used to design more appealing clothing for elderly men, increasing the satisfaction of wearing ready-made clothes at older ages.
