Travel Time Modeling and Analysis for an Automated Work-in-process Carousel

  • This paper deals with an automated storage carrousel which handles work-in-process(WIP) such as small parts for kitting. The system has been used predominately for order picking applications. Throughput performance of the system can be measured by the inverse of the expected order picking time. Analytic models are developed for approximating the expected times under the "nearest-item" sequencing rule. The performance of the models are tested through computer simulation. The gap between the two is shown to be reasonably small.

  • The domestic reinforcement concrete works have mainly worked the process of re-bar fabrication/assembly on site and re-bar works affected by structural safety, durability, and schedule with form work. Accordingly, This study analyzes the process of re-bar fabrication/assembly on site to apply lean production principles to construction Value Stream Analysis(VSA) is analyzed into value-adding activity and non-value-adding activity on construction process through value analysis and Value Stream Mapping(VSM). In the results, non-value-adding activity generates waste such as the activity steps, labors, equipments, materials, time, and so on. Additionally, push-driven production is investigated making low productivity from the overproduction and so on. To resolve the problems in the process, The purpose of this paper eliminates waste factor through maximizing the value-adding activity generating value added and minimizing non-value adding activity. Particularly, it makes flow production and pull-driven production through minimizing work-in-process(WIP ).

  • The purpose of this study is the use of simulation modelling to enhance productivity. In this paper, the optimal buffer allocation of small and medium size industries which produce solenoid valves for automobiles, is performed using simulations. The simulation model was developed under considerations of production layout, process & operation, process time, total work time, WIP, utilization, failure rate, and operation efficiency as inputs, and it was validated with careful comparisons between real behaviors and simulation outputs of the production line. Therefore, we can evaluate effects and changes in productivity when some strategies and/or crucial factors are changed. Although too large buffer could decrease productivity, the solenoid production line in this paper has been maintained large buffer. It is because reducing the size of buffer could result in the termination of the process. We determined the optimal number of buffers that could not cause any interrupt in productions using simulations. This simulation model considers diverse input variables which could influence productivity, and it is very useful not only for the production line of solenoid valves, but also for other production lines with various purposes, especially, small and medium size industries.

  • 최근 이동통신을 통한 WAP 기반의 무선 인터넷 서비스 제공이 이동통신사를 중심으로 급격히 확대되고 있다. 이동통신사에서는 WAP 서비스의 통일성을 위해 콘텐츠 제작자를 대상으로 WAP 에 가이드를 제작 및 배포하고 있지만, 효율적인 WAP 네비게이션을 위해서는 개선의 여지가 않다. 본 연구에서는 이동통신사의 WAP 에 가이드를 분석하여 문제요소를 파악하였으며 도출된 결과를 바탕으로 이용자 중심의 보다 효율적인 네비게이션을 위한 WIP 에 설계를 제안하였다. 또한 제안한 설계의 성능평가를 위하여 사용성 검증을 시행하여 사용자에게 보다 직관적이고 효율적인 UI를 제공할 수 있음을 보였다.

사례기반 추론에 의한 반도체 패키징 공장의 Cycle-time 예측 모형 개발

  • 반도체 패키징 공장에서 싸이클타임(Cycle-time)을 정확히 예측하는 것은 납기일 준수를 통해 고객만족도를 향상시킬 수 있고, 보다 효율적인 스케쥴링을 가능하게 하여 공장 가동률을 높일 수 있게 한다. 그러나 반도체 패키징은 제품 종류가 다양하고 제품마다 특화된 기술을 사용할 뿐만 아니라 공정 순서나, WIP에 따라 싸이클타임이 크게 영향을 받아 그 정확한 예측이 매우 어렵기 때문에 현장 전문가의 판단에 의존하는 경우가 많았다. Fab공정의 경우 전문가를 도와 좀 더 정확한 예측에 도움을 주기 위해 그 동안 전통적 통계 기법 및 시뮬레이션에 기반한 의사결정 모형이 많이 연구되었는데, 최근에는 기계학습 및 인공지능 기법을 사용한 연구가 눈에 띄고 있으며 기존의 방법보다 우수한 성능을 보여 주는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 아직 기계학습 및 인공지능을 이용한 충분한 연구가 진행되지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 사례기반 추론을 사용하여 패키징 공정의 싸이클타임을 예측하고자 하였으며 그 성능을 인공신경망 모형, 의사결정나무 모형, 그리고 해당 분야 전문가의 예측치와 비교하였다. 실험결과에 따르면 사례기반추론 모형이 가장 뛰어난 성능을 보이는 것으로 나타났다.

A Scheduling Problem for Production-Delivery in a Supply Chain (생산 및 배송을 위한 공급사슬망에서의 일정계획에 관한 연구)

  • This paper considers an integrated scheduling problem for consecutive production and delivery stages in a two-stage supply chain. The Production is performed on a single facility and then the finished products are delivered to the customer by capacitated multiple vehicles. The objective of this paper is to obtain job sequencing and delivery batching minimizing the total cost of the associated WIP inventory, finished product inventory and delivery. The inventory cost is characterized by the sum of weighted flowtime. The delivery cost is proportional to the required number of delivery batches. Some polynomial-solvable cases are derived. For the general case, two efficient heuristic algorithms are suggested, and then the heuristics are tested through some numerical experiments.

  • The manufacturing industries which played a major role in the rapid economic growth and industrialization of Korea in the late 20th century had considerable difficulties changing their manufacturing conditions from producer-oriented conditions to customer-oriented ones according to market changes. In this study, increase plant efficiency because grafts together modular system to plant layout and analyzes Work In Process(WIP) between product's cycle time and each process, family efficient plan wishes to choose opposite bank. Simulation approach used for presented methodology The effect will not gain the results for other reasons the inherent conditions of companies, people, and culture which have been hitherto described, but will be expected to help the direction for a new Lay-out production system to reflect on the native conditions rather than fixed technological means and methods in way of an analysis of fundamental problems which small and medium companies in Korea face.

  • SCM(Supply Chain Management) is a new approach to satisfy customers via an integrated management for the whole business processes of the manufacturing from the raw material procurement to the product or service delivery to customers. Typically the semiconductor industry is the one whose supply chain network is distributed all over the world, and its manufacturing process has the particular characteristics which has to be considered in the modeling of supply chain. In this paper we suggest the push and pull type supply chain models based on the manufacturing characteristics and their mathematical formulation for the semiconductor industry. Push supply chain model pursuits the high throughput and the balance of the WIP flow, and pull supply chain model does to minimize the total cost of order-based manufacturing, distribution and transportation process in order to meet customer's request appropriately.

CHAOS IN PRODUCTION PLANNING

  • A phenomenon which is seen in some of the manufacturing systems and production planning is chaos and the butterfly effect. The butterfly effect points out that in case of the presence of nonlinear relations in system and incorrect estimation of initial values of variables, the error in the estimates of system state will be intensified, and after a while there will be a large distance between available state of system and reality. Using mathematical means and computer simulation, we have tried to demonstrate that in a production system the numerical combination of Cycle Time (CT), Adjustment Time between existing and desired Work In Progress (WIP), and Adjustment Time between current and desired inventory can lead to chaos and butterfly effect in the behavior of the inventory state variable. Our paper concludes with a discussion of a hypothesis that emerged from this research.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop and show the efficiency of the URL(Unload Request Logic) and LRL(Load Request Logic) of the dispatcher in the Fab(Fabrication) Manufacturing Execution System. These logics are the core procedures which control the material(wafer and glass substrate) flow efficiently in the semiconductor and LCD fab considering inter-bay as well as intra-bay material flow. We use the present and future status information of the system by look-ahead and the information about the future transportation schedule of Automated Guided Vehicles. The simulation results show that the URL and LRL presented in this paper reduce the average lead time, average and maximum WIP level, and the average available AGV waiting time.
