Development and Application of Reading Discussion System based on Wiki for Improving Interaction (상호작용 증진을 위한 위키 기반 독서토론학습 시스템 개발 및 적용)

  • Reading discussion system based on a Web is a new teaching method which employs a Web as a space for discussion. It enables learners to exchange their opinions to enhance understanding and expand thinking. It is highly required to promote attitude of respecting other's opinions, reasonable thinking, and ability to express thinking in discussion learning based on a Web for interaction. In this study, I developed a reading discussion system, applying the Wiki program, for learners' interaction and tested its usefulness. Through this, it will be possible not to have existing vertical discussion which makes replies on a Web board but to have multidimensional discussion.

Building a Korean-English Parallel Corpus by Measuring Sentence Similarities Using Sequential Matching of Language Resources and Topic Modeling (언어 자원과 토픽 모델의 순차 매칭을 이용한 유사 문장 계산 기반의 위키피디아 한국어-영어 병렬 말뭉치 구축)

  • In this paper, to build a parallel corpus between Korean and English in Wikipedia. We proposed a method to find similar sentences based on language resources and topic modeling. We first applied language resources(Wiki-dictionary, numbers, and online dictionary in Daum) to match word sequentially. We construct the Wiki-dictionary using titles in Wikipedia. In order to take advantages of the Wikipedia, we used translation probability in the Wiki-dictionary for word matching. In addition, we improved the accuracy of sentence similarity measuring method by using word distribution based on topic modeling. In the experiment, a previous study showed 48.4% of F1-score with only language resources based on linear combination and 51.6% with the topic modeling considering entire word distributions additionally. However, our proposed methods with sequential matching added translation probability to language resources and achieved 9.9% (58.3%) better result than the previous study. When using the proposed sequential matching method of language resources and topic modeling after considering important word distributions, the proposed system achieved 7.5%(59.1%) better than the previous study.

The Growth of School Mathematics: Korean Secondary Gifted Students' Collaborative Problem Solving Using The Wiki (학교수학적 지식의 성장: 고등학교 영재 학생들의 위키(Wiki) 기반 협력 문제해결 활동을 중심으로)

  • As a design research, this study aims to identify students' collaborative problems solving patterns using the Wiki and design factors triggering MKB(mathematical knowledge building) in virtual environment. For 70 days, 14 Korean secondary gifted students, who enrolled in calculus II courses in one of gifted institutions in Korea, solved 10 math problems together using the Wiki. In this study, I considered five design factors; motivation, practice of LaTeX, norms of participation, epistemic agency, and two types of educational settings. The primary pattern emergent in students' collaborative problem solving process is identified as 'solutions and refutations' along the double helix consisting of the constructive line and the critical line, which is very similar to the pattern of 'Conjectures and Refutations'(Lakatos, 1976). Despite that most participants had difficulty in using LaTeX for mathematical expressions, this study shows that Wikis are valuable tools for providing Korean secondary students opportunities to learn social virtue such as humility and courage (Lampert, 1990), which is considered to be have been neglected in Korean educational environment but is emphasized as precious for doing mathematics in the field of mathematics education.

A Study on the Development of a New OSMU Education Model Applying Local Content as a Source (지역 콘텐츠를 이용한 OSMU 교육모델 개발에 관한 연구)

  • OSMU is now one of the most important keywords in the media industry. However, how to educate future media workers who can design and implement OSMU is an unsolved problem to media educators. In order to overcome the limitations of two perspectives of OSMU, namely economic perspective and storytelling perspective, this study propose a new OSMU education model for college students. Beginning with creating local content using MediaWiki, this model consists of five phases of media windowing, including MediaWiki, smartphone application, Web design, multimedia e-magazine for tablet PC, and publication. A Chuncheon-based university has been experimenting with this new OSMU education program. MediaWiki has played important role for creating local content collaboratively. All That Chuncheon application is now on service via SKT Tstore and Chuncheon Web pages has been designed successfully. Multimedia e-magazine and book publication is under preparation. The experiment has been successful so far, mainly due to the strategic choice of local content as the source of following media window. Also students have been strongly motivated for participating in this OSMU program.

Scenario Planning based on Collective Intelligence Using Wiki (위키를 활용한 집단지성 기반의 시나리오 플래닝)

  • As the complexity and uncertainty of social and economic systems increase, the strategic foresight that actively and effectively responds to the environmental changes becomes important. A wide range of future forecasting methods are available for strategic foresight. Selecting one of the methods depends on several factors such as availability of time and financial resources and the objectives of the exercise. Although trend extrapolation analysis has been used for many years, scenario planning is being widely used by government and corporate as a tool for strategic decision making in recent years. Generally, scenario planning is carried out through workshop, in which experts with diverse backgrounds exchange information, views, and insights and integrate the diverse viewpoints. However, only a small number of experts can participate in a workshop and citizen opinion is not easily transformed into the policy for the scenario exercise due to the limitation of budget and short duration of a project. It is also much harder to develop creative ideas in the workshop because of the limited time and space. In this study, a new scenario process combining scenario workshop and wiki is proposed to overcome the limitation of scenario workshop. This combined approach can be more productive than using scenario workshop alone when developing new ideas. In this study, we applied the combined approach to develop scenarios for the strategic foresight of future media and present suggestions for improving the process.

Dynamic ontology construction algorithm from Wikipedia and its application toward real-time nation image analysis (국가이미지 분석을 위한 위키피디아 실시간 동적 온톨로지 구축 알고리즘 및 적용)

  • Measuring nation images was a challenging task when employing offline surveys was the only option. It was not only prohibitively expensive, but too much time-consuming and therefore unfitted to this rapidly changing world. Although demands for monitoring real-time nation images were ever-increasing, an affordable and reliable solution to measure nation images has not been available up to this date. The researcher in this study developed a semi-automatic ontology construction algorithm, named "double-crossing double keyword collection (or DCDKC)" to measure nation images from Wikipedia in real-time. The ontology, WikiOnto, can be used to reflect dynamic image changes. In this study, an instance of WikiOnto was constructed by applying the algorithm to the big-three exporting countries in East Asia, Korea, Japan, and China. Then, the numbers of page views for words in the instance of WikiOnto were counted. A collection of the counting for each country was compared to each other to inspect the possibility to use for dynamic nation images. As for the conclusion, the result shows how the images of the three countries have changed for the period the study was performed. It confirms that DCDKC can very well be used for a real-time nation-image monitoring system.

  • Social Media is the open online tool and media platform for sharing and participation of users opinion, experience, viewpoiont, so general situation that is one-side flowing from production to consume doesn't act, and while use of two-way, user create contents use of sharing and participation. This social media include Blog, Social Network Service(SNS), Wiki, User Create Contents(UCC), Micro Blog, 5 types. In broad terms, Social Learning is self-learning that user sharing with coperation and collective intelligence through Social Media, and in few wards Social Learning is learning for Social Media. In this research, we define Social Media and Social Learning, and research of method of use of Elementary Education.

  • Collaborative knowledge is continuously producted and modified by group individuals during collaboration and it is also fostered in a radical trust environment like Wiki. The example is Wikipedia. However I found out a big problem as difficulties of exploring when the knowledge space is extended more and more widely. To solve this problem, collaborative knowledge management systems are implemented based on wiki. The one is navigation map that supports the efficient exploring and the another is knowledge map that supports a convergent thinking in a group. In this study, we examined the effectiveness of navigation map and knowledge map.

Study on Application of Interactive Contents for Effective Smart Education (효과적인 스마트 교육을 위한 인터랙티브 콘텐츠 적용에 관한 연구)

  • Education environment of modern society is rapidly changing along the usage of various device and development of contents. Learners of diverse age groups and genders are exposed in smart education environment. Thus in order to investigate effective smart education contents production, this study classified interactive types that affect learning satisfaction into CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) based , NCS (Network Communication System) based , and NTS (New Technology System) based . Then we investigated how each interactive types affect immersion, utility, self-efficacy, practicality, and stimulation. The effects were measured according to the learner's gender and age. As the result, interactive types do affect smart education, where male had higher learning satisfaction for CAI based, game type, and wiki type while female had higher satisfaction for relationship establishment type and experience type. Also, for age group, the 10s preferred NTS based, 20~30s NCS based, and 40s and over CAI based interactive type. Thus, if satisfaction levels according to gender and age are considered when producing smart education contents, it may be possible to create educative contents that meet the dispositions of the learners.

  • This paper examines the extent and rate of adoption of five Web 2.0 applications (RSS, blog, tagging, podcast, and wiki) in 111 American Research Association (ARL) libraries and identifies institutional factors associated with Web 2.0 adoption. The popularity of Web 2.0 continues to grow, both in terms of the total number of adopting libraries and the adoption rate. Wiki adopter libraries are in larger universities, have larger professional staff, and are more acceptable to electronic resources than the non-adopters.
