  • This research analyzes effects on women students' psychological characteristics participating in WIE Program (WIE, Women into Engineering) which develops and manages with gender perspective to inspire needed qualities for them to have a career in the field of engineering and improve the use of women resources. We surveyed 207 women students in WIE Program about psychological characteristics of finding ways in one's major field and recognition of developing one's ability through the program. The results show that women students have strong desire to have a carrier in the field of engineering, but seem to have low self-efficacy about it. Each characteristics are different from students to students due to their backgrounds. Next, each psychological characteristics have meaningful differences between groups that are taking WIE Program and groups that are not, and also between groups that have a lot of experiences and groups that have not. Last, women students think that they will be able to gain positiveness, self-efficacy, challenging mind by participating in WIE Program.

  • This article is a theoretical and empirical study of engineering and gender, and also explores the policy development of WIE program. WIE in Korea aims to foster talented women engineers through the introduction of gender-sensitive engineering education system, field-adaptive skill improvements of women students, and industry-university collaborations. This study examines gender perspectives to analyze our WIE program. It is important to recognize that it's not enough to acquire institutional and structural equity in developing women in engineering. Above all, we should note our situations that has frustrated women's career development in engineering. In university education, we need to improve the engineering faculty's recognition of gender equity. Efforts to establish the professional identity of women engineers, involvement of men and women students, and building of women engineers' network are necessary elements to implement successful WIE program. Additionally, we discuss that policy support to WIE program should be continued and enlarged in university level.

  • This study describes a development of GIS-based program called Debris Flow Analyzer for simulating the hazard extent of debris flow on the assumption that is uniform continuous, incompressible, unsteady. The Debris Flow Analyzer was designed to process debris flow numerical simulation with Finite Difference Formulation; smoothed DEM, slope, debris flow directions, extract valley, debris volume, water volume, debris flow moving speed, effective viscosity, dynamic friction coefficient. Also, it is expected that we can be improved the inform of debris flow hazard map by Google Earth.

  • The Purpose of this study was to conduct the effects of the 12-weeks health education and exercise programs on body compositions, bone density, and blood lipid, and health behavior among middle-aged and aged women in rural areas. The number of participants was 33 women at the age of 40-75 from March 5 to May 31 in 2012. For statistical analysis, descriptive statistics, paired t-test and ANCOVA were used with SPSS WIN 12.0. The results were summarized as followings. First, body weight, BMI and % body fat decreased significantly. Second, serum total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol level decreased significantly. Third, Bone density increased significantly. Forth, Health behavior and attitude were significant factors in exercise, alcohol and smoking. Therefore, it is necessary to provide individual programs of intensive aerobic and muscle exercise over 3 months and the community will have to provide systematic management.

  • This paper predicted deformation due to thermal residual stress in composites using finite element analysis. Temperature cycle, Model shape, Laminate angle, Stacking sequence, chemical shrinkage of resin, and thermal expansion are affect composite deformation. Compare the results of the analytical model with the actual model of the same shape. This paper suggests that the analytical results can be applied to actual Model.

  • It is useful to have a quick analysis program in early design process for feasibility studies of composite cylinder because it takes long time and is not cost effective by commercial programs. In this paper, a GUI program is developed to calculate the stress distribution in a fast manner with the properties, the orientation angle and the stacking sequence of composite material using LabVIEW. The stress distributions of an autofrettaged cylinder and a composite cylinder with internal pressure are compared with the results by MSC Nastran/patran. The stress distribution of steel/composite cylinder is compared with the values of existing studies, and is proved. Furthermore, by calculating the stress distribution of an autofrettaged steel/composite cylinder, the stress distribution is estimated, and the program will be useful in an early design phase for feasibility studies.

  • Helicopter noise prediction is an essential process for developing low noise helicopter technology. In this paper, the noise prediction method is developed using the helicopter integrated performance analysis program CAMRAD-II and in-house noise analysis code. In addition, the analytical technique was verified by analyzing blade-vortex interaction noise, which is the biggest cause of helicopter noise. In order to predict the actual helicopter noise, the noise analysis was performed for the flyover and approach condition, which is the standard measurement condition of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Finally, we confirmed the suitability of the analytical method through comparison and analysis with the flight test results.

  • In this research, the vibration characteristics of composite quadcopter are analyzed, and avoidance design and analysis are performed to avoid resonance. The full platform of a commercial quadcopter with composite rotor arm is analyzed to see the vibration characteristics using FEM program. The manufactured stacking sequences of rotor arm is used for analysis, and the natural frequencies are compared with experimental results and simple analytic model results. It is also confirmed that the natural frequency of the particular mode is included within the operation range of the motor. The resonance avoidance design is carried out by selecting three variables from the existing model: stacking sequence, rotor-arm pipe length, and pipe thickness.

  • This paper addresses the stress analysis and design of composite double lead spiral which is boarded in 20mm universal ammunition drum by finite element method. The spiral system is very important to transfer the ammunition in stable and reliable manners for aircraft. Some verifications are done to check the possibility of composite application in spiral system. The design variables, stacking sequence and fiber orientation angles, are investigated for reliable design for practical design. The Tsai-Wu failure theory is applied to see the safety of the spiral structure. The design result is suggested to manufacture the double lead spiral part.

  • Active tab is one of the promising technology for the BVI (blade-vortex interaction) noise reduction, and analysis of noise reduction performance is very important phase of the technology development. For the purpose of analysing the performance of noise reduction using active tab, CAMRAD II model for a model-scale rotor system was constructed utilizing structural design result and airfoil aerodynamic data generated by CFD (computational fluid dynamics) calculation. HHC strategy was applied to descent flight condition and air-load was calculated by CAMRAD II then variations of BVI noise was calculated by in-house program. Calculation result with respect to tab length and control phase changes showed BVI noise could be reduced by -3.3dB.
