  • 현재 통신 시장의 상황은 유무선 통신서비스 시장의 포화, 이동통신 시장의 기존 유선전화 규모 초과, 그리고 유선통신의 서비스 사업자의 영역 확대 도모 등을 특징으로 한다. 유무선 통합 (Fixed Mobile Convergence, FMC) 서비스는 유선통신 사업자를 중심으로 한 비즈니스 모델로 사용자에게 유무선 통신망 종류에 상관없이 일관되고 끊김없는 서비스를 제공하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이동통신망까지 확대하여 고객 기반을 유지하고자 하는 유선사업자들은 FMC 서비스 중 하나의 방안으로 IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystems) 기반의 VCC(Voice Call Continuity) 기능에 주목하고 있다. VCC AS(Application Server)는 이종망 (WiFi-CDMA)간 Seamless 핸드오버기능을 수행하므로, WiFi 와 CDMA를 지원할 수 있는 듀얼단말을 이용하여 사용자가 WiFi 서비스 지역과 CDMA 서비스 지역간 이동시에도 Seamless 한 음성서비스를 제공한다. 이에 본 논문은 IMS/VCC 기반으로 음성 seamless 핸드오버 적용 사례(시범서비스)를 중심으로 유무선 통신사업자 상호 Win-Win을 추구할 수 있는 LG데이콤 특화 VCC 모델을 제시한다. 그리고 LG데이콤이 추구하는 차세대 서비스인 사용자 context 기반의 개인화된 서비스 제공을 위한 IMS 기반 통합 프로파일/인증/과금 연구 동향에 대해 간략히 소개한다.

  • Mobile communication systems such as WCDMA, Wibro, LTE, etc are being developed to meet the explosively increasing demands for wireless data. These communication systems are using the power at all times. In general a base station has all of the communication systems mentioned above in order to provide a more convenient service to a number of users. The demands for wireless data are changed according to time and location. If the mobile communication systems are selectively operated according to the demand for wireless data then the consumed power can be saved. This paper describes the design and implementation of the load management system which controls the supplied power to the mobile communication infrastructures depending on the demand of wireless data.

  • There are three main kinds of service standards for 3G(Third-Generation) wireless communication as WCDMA, CDMA2000 and TD-SCDMA(Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access). Compare with WCDMA and CDMA2000, TD-SCDMA system has distinguished technical characters. It is a TDD(Time Division Duplexing) based technology and deploys several advanced but in some respects complex technologies such as smart antenna, joint-detection and baton-handoff, etc. Therefore to analyze and design TD-SCDMA wireless network, it needs more efficient and systematic simulation tool. General simulation tool has so many analysis functions including path loss prediction, capacity and coverage analysis. For more suitable for TD-SCDMA, new additional technologies have to be implemented in simulation tool. Especially as the wireless network highly advancing focused on data service, it more needs to research and develop on the reliability of the simulation tool. In this paper, to give the concrete process and skill about how to implement TD-SCDMA simulation tool, we define the kinds of simulation tool and list basic analysis functions available for TD-SCDMA network design at first. And then we explain how to consider the effects of new technologies of TD-SCDMA and give the solutions about theses considerations.

  • In this paper, we evaluate the capacity of voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services over high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), in which frame-bundling (FB) is incorporated to reduce the effect of relatively large headers in the IP/UDP/RTP layers. Also, a modified proportional pair (PF) packet scheduler design supporting for VoIP service is provided. The main focus of this work is the effect of FB on system outage based on delay budget in radio access networks. Simulation results show that VoIP system performance with FB scheme is highly sensitive to delay budget. We also conclude that HSDPA is attractive for transmission of VoIP if compared to the circuit switched (CS) voice that is used in WCDMA (Release'99).

  • As the set of new mobile data networking service technologies, such as WiBro, mobile WiMAX and WCDMA-HSDPA, have been introduced in recent years, IP mobility management protocols which aim to provide seamless IP service over the mobile networking environment become one of the important building blocks for the successful mobile networks. IETF has introduced a basic mobility management protocol over IPv6 (MIPv6) and a set of enhanced protocols such as FMIPv6 and HMIPv6, followed by FHMIPv6, S-MIPv6 and HIMIPv6 which combine the benefits of the basic protocols. We have studied the impact of the various IP mobility management protocols over TCP sessions through extensive simulations with ns-2. Our simulation results show that TCP performance with the HIMIPv6 outperforms MIPv6, FMIPv6 and HMIPv6 over the various TCP protocols, due to its efficient combination of the hierarchical mobility management scheme of the HMIPv6, the predictive handover scheme of the FMIPv6 and the fast simulcasting scheme of the S-MIP.

Accessing DLNA Network with Cellular Communication Terminals (이동통신 단말기를 이용한 DLNA 네트워크 접속)

  • In this paper, we show a scheme to directly access DLNA network with the 3G/4G communication module of a smartphone in home or office environment. By exploiting this scheme, end users can use DLNA service more conveniently regardless of the type of activated communication module in a smartphone. For the implementation of this scheme, we use a femtocell that is a basestation with small coverage. A problem caused by the IP address hierarch discrepancy between the IP address of 3G/4G module of smartphone and those of local network nodes is resolved by deploying local IP address scheme. The processing of multicasting packet, that is required in DLNA service, is enabled by using IP tunneling scheme. As a result, end user can access DLNA network regardless of the type of activated wireless communication module. We validate the design result by implementing it on a commercial WCDMA femtocell.

  • Recently, a multi-core system is studied for single terminal's operations on various service networks for mobile systems. Therefore, it is expected that mobile systems capable of supporting WCDMA, GSM, and WiBro would be developed. Mobile systems for supporting various service networks is able to be implemented on a single chipset via SoC(System on Chip) technology, thus a noble modem design proper for SoC technology is necessary. As those systems shall be operated at different frequency band with only a single terminal, a problem that a nonlinear characteristic according to the system and its frequency band is occurred. In this paper a noble modem design for multi-core systems is proposed and the nonlinear characteristics for those systems is analysed. The proposed modem design is based on OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and MC-CDMA scheme. And nonlinear characteristic analysis is done by PSD measurement.

  • WCDMA 의 등장으로 영상통화를 지원하는 휴대폰의 보급은 빠르게 확산되고 있다. 하지만 예상과 달리 사용자들의 실제 영상통화 이용율은 그리 활성화 되지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구자들은 이러한 현상이 나타나게 된 원인이 영상통화 기능이 단순한 통화기능으로만 활용될 뿐 그 실질적 효용성이 높지 못하기 때문이라 판단하여, 영상 통화를 활성화 시킬 수 있는 방안에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 오늘날 IT 기반의 서비스 중에 매우 활성화 된 것이 쇼핑 관련 서비스이다. 무선 인터넷과 모바일 환경에서 금융과 통신의 융합이 사회적 화두로 떠오르고, 이러한 이유로 영상통화 기능을 쇼핑과 연계한다면 그 효용성이 매우 커질 것으로 판단하였다. 그리하여 본 연구에서는 사용자 행태 조사을 통해 그들의 needs 를 범주화하고 분석하여 영상통화 쇼핑 서비스 어플리케이션을 도출하였다. 그리고 도출된 어플리케이션의 세부적 절차와 원활한 인터페이스의 설계를 위해 시나리오 형식으로 개방하여 그 형태를 구체화시키고자 하였다.

  • 무선과 이동성을 지원하기 위해서는 서로 다른 기술을 사용하고 있는 다양한 액세스 네트워크들간의 통신이 단절 없이 이루어져야 한다. 특히 멀티미디어 서비스와 실시간 서비스는 통신 단절, 패킷 지연과 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있다. 현재 iMT-2000 서비스의 개발로 인하여 WCDMA와 CDMA의 서비스가 동시에 이루어지고 있으나 이 두 가지 시스템은 인터페이스 및 트래픽 관리 등에서 다른 기술을 사용하고 있다 그러므로, 이종망간 핸드오프를 할 때, 통신 단절이 발생하게 된다. WCOMA 네트워크에서 통신을 하던 단말기가 그 지역을 벗어나 COMA 지역으로 이동하는 경우, 사용자는 이용하고 있던 서비스를 중단하고 다시 새로운 네트워크에서 서비스를 요청하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이기종 네트워크간의 핸드오프가 발생할 때 서비스의 단절 현상을 없애기 위해, Seamless Services를 지원하는 효율적인 핸드오프 모델과 절차를 제안한다.

Technological importance and breadth of standard essential patents: A comparison between practicing and non-practicing entities for mobile telecommunication technologies

  • Using 23 867 standard essential patents claimed for three different wireless telecommunication standards (GSM, WCDMA, and LTE), this research examined the difference in technological importance and breadth of patents between practicing and non-practicing entities. We discovered that compared to manufacturers and service providers, organizations who do not appropriate innovation-derived profits directly from product or service markets tended to have relatively low-quality but broadly scoped technologies for the claimed standard essential patents. These relationships between the characteristics of inventions and the organizational types were consistently held across different generations of wireless standards as indicated by regressions run for each sample split by generation. Furthermore, the theory and policy implications of our results and arguments are presented herein.
