  • This paper propose the printed inverted-F antenna using the coupling feed for the mobile phone. The coupling feed can normally leads the additional capacitances in the antenna, so the high inductive reactance of the antenna can be partly compensated. In this paper, it is shown that the bandwidth of the proposed antenna using the coupling feed is improved at $824{\sim}960$ MHz and $1,710{\sim}2,390$ MHz. Then it is compared with the simple direct feed to confirm the improvement of the bandwidth. The proposed antenna covers GSM850/GSM950/DCS/USPCS/WCDMA/Wibro and has the maximum gain of -$4.794{\sim}1.648$ dBi and shows omnidirectional patterns over the operating bands.

  • High-data rate and high speed communication techniques are required for wireless mobile communication systems to provide multimedia services. A multiple antenna technology may be used to meet this demand. In this paper, a method for performance improvement of a WCDMA downlink system using space time block coding is proposed in quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed receiver uses the cross correlation matrix obtained by each finger corresponding to multi paths. To obtain maximum diversity gain, the inverse of cross correlation matrix and the Hermitian matrix of the channel matrix for each path arc computed, and then applied to received signals. Various simulation results show that the proposed receiver outperforms a conventional receiver in Rayleigh fading channels.

  • This paper concentrates on developing and analyzing an advanced space-time multiuser receiver for WCDMA forward link. Through exploring the interference caused by co-channel users and delayed multipaths in CDMA, a constrained linear adaptive filter is adopted to cancel the interference. Furthermore, by utilizing the space-time diversity, an optimum diversity receiver, called a constrained adaptive space-time interference canceller (C-ASTIC), is proposed. For comparison, the statistical analysis of multiuser performance for WCDMA system with space-time diversity is described. The result of the simulation showed that C-ASTIC performs better than both the space-time diversity combining maximal ratio combiner (MRC) and the single-antenna adaptive interference canceller in a multipath fading channel. Also, the efficiency of the C-ASTIC in the multimedia communication environment is investigated under the multiuser, multi-transmit antenna, and multirate WCDMA system in a multipath fading channel. From the results, the C-ASTIC was validated to be useful for multi-rate WCDMA system through improving the performance gain by more than 3 dB at BER of 10$\^$-3/ in a half or more loaded system.

  • In this paper, we propose an U-slot microstrip antenna with the U-shaped parasitic patches. U-slot and parasitic patches make two resonant frequencies and one additional resonant frequency, respectively, so that the impedance band-width of the antenna is expanded. The size of radiator part is $64{\times}53\;mm^2$ and the entire size of the antenna is $150{\times}150{\times}11.5\;mm^3$. The measured bandwidth is $1.85{\sim}2.40\;GHz$. Thus, our antenna can be used for DCS1900, WCDMA and WiMax services. The radiation characteristic is almost same in the bandwidth, the beam width is about $60^{\circ}$, and the gain is more than 7 dBi.

  • In this paper, the compact antenna with three folded patches for use in a number of bands of LTE, WCDMA, US-PCS, and WLAN at the same time is proposed. As the changes in widths of the 3 patches to widen the insufficient bandwidth are given, it is optimized for $S_{11}$<-6dB(VSWR<3). The CPW with a number of advantages is used in the proposed antenna. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated with FR4 substrate to the size of $44.9{\times}35{\times}1mm^3$. Fabricated antenna has within $S_{11}$<-6dB under operating bands. And measured characteristics of radiation patterns and gains are shown under operating bands.

  • CL1(closed loop mode 1) is one of the closed loop transmit diversity schemes defined by 3GPP WCDMA and adjusts the relative phases of the transmitted signals at the two transmit antennas, thereby maximizing the power of the received signal at the user equipment. A key component of this scheme is to encode the phase difference between two received signals arrived at the user equipment via two different transmit antennas and to send it back to the base station. This paper proposes a new phase difference representation based on the adaptive delta modulation and compares its performance with the corresponding one of CL1. Computer simulations show that, in a slowly fading environment, the proposed scheme produces more realistic representation of the phase difference than the on of the CL1, resulting in a lower BER.

  • In this paper, a dual-band antenna aimed for a mobile communication repeater was designed and measured. The operating frequency ranges are GSM(870${\sim}$960 MHz) and WCDMA(1920${\sim}$2170 MHz) bands. Experimental and numerical studies are performed for various design variables such as slot lengths. Using two meandering slots in the ground plane, we can obtain two higher resonant frequencies significantly with broader bandwidths. The measured maximum gain of antenna is 2 dBi in the GSM band and 2.45 dBi in the WCDMA band.

  • This paper presents a ultra-wideband sinuous antenna that operates in a whole frequency range (0.824~5.85 GHz) of Cellular/GSM-800, GSM900, ISM, GPS, DCS/GSM1800, PCS/GSM1900, WCDMA/UMTS/IMT2000, WiBro, WLAN and WiMax. The proposed antenna, which is composed of two sinuous arms, is designed as a self-complementary structure in order to have frequency-independent characteristics. It also uses a wideband balun of Klopfenstein taper structure to match to $50{\Omega}$. Experimental results show that the -10 dB return loss bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 5.24 GHz that ranges from 0.76 to 6 GHz, which covers all the frequency bands of the various wireless services. Within the entire operating frequency range, the measured radiation patterns in both E-plane and H-plane show nearly constant bidirectional broadside beams and the maximum antenna gain is measured to fall between 2.32~6.01 dBi.

  • In this paper, a frequency changeable antenna using dual half wavelength loaded line structure is proposed for multiband mobile handset applications. The proposed antenna has a capability of independent frequency shift by controlling two added inductance values in two different bands. Experimental results indicate that the proposed antenna provides enough effective bandwidth to cover $CELLULAR(824\sim894\;MHz)$, $EGSM(880\sim960\;MHz)$, $DCS1800(1,710\sim1,880\;MHz)$, $PCS1900(1,850\sim1,990\;MHz)$ and $WCDMA(1,920\sim2,170\;MHz)$ bands and peak gain variation is only 0.54 dB.

  • In this paper, equivalent isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of six mobile phones made by two national companies were measured in order to introduce power limit of mobile phones for national CDMA, PCS and WCDMA applications. The measurement has been conducted in a full anechoic chamber and used antenna substitution method. From the measured results, the measured power of the mobile phones are compared by power limit regulations of mobile phones for USA, Japan and Europe. Finally, we propose power limits of 2 W ERP for CDMA phones, 2 W EIRP for PCS phones, and 2 W EIRP for WCDMA phones, respectively.
