The modern society as a high-level information-oriented society lays a great emphasis on lifelong education. It emphasizes all the learners' creative learning ability and various teaching-learning methods as well. We need the self-directed learning to meet these requirements, and one of the solutions is the self-directed teaching-learning process employing the web. Though many educators, so far, developed a number of teaching materials, they are no more than web-based teaching materials for simple learning activities or simple item-bank systems. So, this paper suggests an problem-solving based and self-directed learning system on web in order to overcome such simplicities, and it shows design and implementation of the system. Suggested learning system enables learners to get thinking skill though self-directed control of learning level after they learn the basic concepts and principles on the web as self-directed learning. For example, the system was applied to mathematics education for a middle school students. It supports a test of questions chosen from the item bank in a self-directed way, and helps learners to understand their learning levels for themselves and to solve their questions through on-line discussions with their instructor. The system can also be helpful in improving the learners' learning effects by sharing mutual information through the data room or the Q&A between learners and learners or between learners and instructors.

This study was carried out to investigate insect specles of Kiwi fruit, and ecological characteristicsof Stathmopoda m Chonnam province from 1991 to 1993 Twelve families and thirteen specieswere identified during the study. The purpose of this paper is to examine student's perspective on java applets used in web-based online courseware. undergraduate The subject of study was 94 undergraduates and web-based online courseware for the study was made. A suvey was conducted using a questionnaire form right after the semester was over. The results of this study were as follows; 1. 61.7% of the students answered that java applets used in the web-based courseware was very interesting. 2. For the reason why the students had the feeling of liking on the java applets, 33％ of the students checked the item "due to the java applets' characteristics of repetition", and 30.9％ of the students checked the item "due to the concrete and dynamic explanation on the contents". 3. The majority of the students answered that the java applets helped their learning(71.3％), induced their academic motivation(67％), and felt interactivity while learning(73.4％). 4. 81.9% of the students felt that java applets was necessary and essential contents in the industrial education web-based online courseware.

It was essential to develop the DB-type teaching and teaming material for geography instruction using a method of ICT. The DB-type teaching and learning material was considered as a alternative in solving the problems of web-based geography instruction. Accordingly, in this study, the geography image DB program as developed, and based on this program the CD-ROM called GEO-DB, having the function of electronic dictionary of geography image for geography teaching and teaming was made. The GEO-DB was composed of 3,060 geography images collected by teachers and learners. The GEO-DB was made to be used simply by teachers and learners. Especially, the portfolio function was Included in the GEO-DB, and that was focused to the instructional system design of teacher and the self-directed teaming ability development of learner. Teachers and learners using this GEO-DB assessed that because the GEO-DB had the easiness of use, the speed of reference and the unlimitedness of extension, it could enlarge the possibility of using a method of In, and it could contribute to the development of geography teaming ability and the change of geography teaming attitude.
