  • In this paper, the automation of sweeping center setting for wavelength swept laser used in SS-OCT has implemented. For 3 regions where the initial FFP-TF pass wavelength can be located, each different DC voltage pattern is applied to FFP-TF. Through its performance test to the laser, fast and exact setting to sweeping central wavelength, flat sweeping with ${\pm}0.5dB$ fluctuation range, and 10 mW average optical power were obtained. This shows that the realized automatic setting process can replace an inconvenient manual setting operation used for current wavelength swept laser. Additionally it cuts costs for optical spectrum analyzer necessary to laser spectrum monitoring.

  • The wavelength converter is considered to be a key element of future dense WDM optical networks. It enables wavelength reuse and resolves contention problem. Moreover, the tunability of the wavelength converter enhance the flexibility of network systems by facilitating reconfigurable dynamic wavelength routing. In order to achieve optically tunable wavelength conversion, we recently proposed and experimentally demonstrated wavelength conversion and tuning based on cascaded sum and difference frequency generation in a Ti:PPLN channel waveguide. • This paper considers a routing and wavelength assignment problem (RWAP) for the implementation of efficient Wavelength Division Multiplexing all-optical mesh networks without wavelength conversion. For a given physical network and required connections, the solution to the RWAP consists in how to select a suitable path and wavelength among the many possible choices for each connection so that no two paths using the same wavelength pass through the same link, while minimizing the number of required wavelengths. We introduce an integer programming formulation of the RWAP, which has an exponential number of variables, and propose an algorithm to solve it based on the column generation technique. The proposed algorithm can yield high quality solutions and tight lower bounds at the same time. Though the proposed algorithm cannot guarantee optimal solutions, computational results show that the algorithm yields provably good solutions within a reasonable time.

  • The wavelengt lockin gsystem of the optical fabry-perot filter theoretially derived and experimentally realized by using the ithering method in order to compensate the laser wavelength drift increasing the BER of the WDM system. The deviation between the laser wavelength and the optical filter center wavelength is compensated by applying a suitable voltage to the PZT. Accordingly, the laser wavelength selected by the fabry-perot filter always maintains the condition of maximum transmission powr. A wavelength locking system has been demonstrated using a fiber fabry-perot filter with a free spectral range of 80nm and an FWH of 1nm. The voltages of the sine wave generated for dithering was 20mV and 10mV, the frequency was 2kHz and center wavelength of the tunable laser was 1550nm. In this paper, the locking system have 20ms of locking time and 2nm of locking range.

  • We propose a new encoder/decoders based on an tune able wavelength converter(TWC) and an arrayed waveguide grating(AWG) router for large capacity optical CDMA networks. The proposed encoder/decoder treats codewords of wavelength/time 2-D code simultaneously using the dynamic code allocation property of the TWC and the cyclic property of the AWG router, and multiple subscribers can share the encoder/decoder in networks. Feasibility of the structure of the proposed encoder/decoder for dynamic code allocation is tested through simulations using two wavelength/time 2-D codes, which are the generalized multi-wavelength prime code(GMWPC) and the generalized multi-wavelength Reed-Solomon code(GMWRSC). Test results show that the proposed encoder/decoder can increase the channel efficiency not only by increasing the number of simultaneous users without any multiple-access interference but by using a relatively short length CDMA codes.

  • A thchnique has been studied for the measurement of the spectral loss and the cut-off wave length, at which the first high-order mode disappears. The near-field patterns of a fiber which is excited by a variable wavelength source are used for the measurement of cut-off wavelength. Because of the absorptive phenomenon of OH- molecular vibration, spectral loss of a single mode optical fiber sample is 5.6dB/km at 1380 nm wavelength and 1dB/km at 1240 nm wavelength. From the near field intensity patterns and the mode field diameter graph for the half power width, the cut-off wavelength of the fiber is measured to be 1120 nm.

  • Several internal wavelength locker schemes for 10 Gbps electro-absorption modulated laser EML) module were reviewed. 10 Gbps EML modules with simple and robust internal wavelength ockers for metro dense WDM application were successfully demonstrated. The wavelength aging ver 2000 hours was done at elevated temperature of 7$0^{\circ}C$. The average wavelength drift of 10 modules was measured to be about $\pm$ 5 pm. These modules can be successfully applied to the 0 Gbps DWDM systems with 50 ㎓ channel spacing.

  • The wavelength dependence of the diffracted light in volume hologram is important in application of volume hologram, because the wavelength dependence of the diffracted light can be used to select a certain wavelength from white-light which is composed of a lot of wavelengths. Some experiments are done to analyze the wavelength dependence of diffracted lights. The coupled wave theory is used to make a theoretical approach to this model. Compared with the theoretical result, the experimental result makes a good agreement with it.

  • Dual-wavelength holography has a better axial range than single-wavelength holography, allowing unambiguous phase imaging. The size of a reconstructed image depends on the reconstruction distance and wavelength. The two phase image sizes of different wavelength holograms should be the same in order to apply dual-wavelength holography. The Fresnel-Bluestein transform method is proposed to eliminate the dependence on the reconstruction distance and wavelength. We found that the Fresnel-Bluestein transform is very useful for making different reconstructed image sizes experimentally. Also we applied the Fresnel-Bluestein transform to make the same reconstruction image size in dual wavelength holography.
