Determination of EMCs for Rainfall Ranges from Transportation Landuses (교통관련 토지이용에서의 강우계급별 EMC 산정)

  • The contribution of pollutant loadings from non-point source (NPS) to the four major rivers in Korea exceeded 22~37 % of the total loadings in 2004 and is expected to reach 60 % in 2020. Most of NPS loadings are coming from urban areas, especially from paved areas. Because of high imperviousness rate, many types of NPS pollutant are accumulating on the surface during dry periods. The accumulated pollutants are wash-off during a storm and highly degrading the water quality of receiving water bodies. For this reason, the Korean Ministry of Environment (MOE) developed the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) program to protect the water quality by managing the point source and NPS loadings. NPS has high uncertainties during a storm because of the characteristics of rainfall and watershed areas. The rainfall characteristics can affect on event mean concentrations (EMCs), mass loadings, flow rate, etc. Therefore, this research was performed to determine EMCs for rainfall ranges from transportation landuses such as road and parking lot. Two sites were monitored over 45 storm events during the 2006/06 through 2008/10 storm seasons. Mean TSS EMCs decrease as rainfall ranges increase and highest at less than 10mm rainfall. The results of this study can be used to determine the efficient scale of BMP facility considering specific rainfall range.

Reduction in Residual Pesticides and Quercetin Yields in Onion Peel Extracts by Washing (세척방법에 따른 양파껍질추출물의 Quercetin수율 및 잔류농약 제거효과)

  • This study was conducted to assess the removal of residual pesticides and to obtain high amounts of quercetin in onion peel extracts (OPEs) by 4 washing treatments. Washing is one of the standard processing steps in obtaining functional food ingredients from onion peel. After a first detergent wash (0.2% w/v) (DW) and hot air drying ($80^{\circ}C$, 24 hr) (B), 4 washing treatments were tested, including a second DW (C), ultrasonication ($50^{\circ}C$, 10 min) plus DW (D), 0.3% $H_2O_2$ (v/v) plus DW (E), and blanching ($95-97^{\circ}C$, 2 min) plus DW (F). This was followed by 60% (v/v) ethanol extraction and vacuum freeze drying of the OPE. The E treatment yielded 89.04% OPE and a quercetin content of 96.84% in the OPE compared with the B treatment, and had the highest efficiency of all treatments tested. The OPE was tested for the presence of 177 residual pesticides and three compounds were detected in all treatments: cyhalothirn, fluquinconazole and procymidone. Cyhalothirn and fluquinconazole levels were below the permitted levels for fresh onion, while procymidone was present in the high level range of 128.01~133.46 mg/kg in all samples. The E treatment was a better washing method than the others for removal of residual pesticides. It could reduce the level of residual pesticides without changing the functional properties of the OPE.

Development and Effectiveness Evaluation of Teaching/Learning Plan for Clothing Safety Education in Home Economics Based on the Health Belief Model (건강신념모델을 적용한 의생활 안전교육 교수·학습 과정안 개발 및 효과평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the clothing safety teaching/learning plan in Home Economics based on the health belief model and to examine the effects of the course using the developed teaching/learning plan on the health belief. Based on ADDIE model, 6 clothing safety teaching/learning plans were developed by applying the health belief model. They consisted of three learning factors of 'harmful substances that can be exposed during the production, wear, wash, and storage of clothes and textile products', 'environment friendly fibers' and 'natural detergents'. Then they were implemented on 7 classes in middle school located in Gyeonggi-do Province from August 20 to September 7 in 2018. The health beliefs data collected before and after the course were analyzed with paired t-test with SPSS/win. As a result, the perceived threat(combination of perceived severity and perceived susceptibility), the perceived benefit, and the self-efficacy were significantly improved. And the perceived barrier was significantly reduced. In conclusion, the home economics clothing safety education course using the health belief model was meaningful as the safety education to enable middle school students to practice safe clothing life from harmful substances. The results of this study are expected to be helpful for activating safety education in home economics.

Studies on the Residual Contents of Sulfur Dioxide in Herbal Medicines Distributed at Domestic (국내 유통 한약재에서 이산화황 잔류량에 대한 연구)

  • We investigated the residual contents of sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) on the 280 kinds of herbal medicines distributed at 8 cities including in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Jecheon, Yeongju, Geumsan and Jeonju in Korea. The residual contents of $SO_2$ were determinated by modified Monier-Williams method. The residual contents of $SO_2$ were not detected at 206 products in total 280 products. However, it was detected below 100 ppm in 39 products, between 101 and 1000 ppm in 30 products and exceeded 1000 ppm in 5 products. $SO_2$ contents ranged 11 ${\sim}$ 2339 mg/kg (mean 293 mg/kg) at domestic samples distributed. Regardless of region, $SO_2$ contents were not found at Notopterygii Rhizoma, Ligustici Scinensis Rhizoma et Radix, Bombyx Batryticatus, Coicis Semen, Cnidii Rhizoma, Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, Gardeniae Fructus, Alismatis Rhizoma. But it's found at Batatatis Rhizoma, Paeoniae Radix and Codonopsitis Radix of every region collected the samples. $SO_2$ contents were not detected at 58 products which collected cultural fields of dometic. After treated with water wash and hot water extraction, the reduction rates of sulfur dioxide were appeared with 14.3% ${\sim}$ 40.4% and 55.2% ${\sim}$ 100.0%, respectively. These data will be used to establish a criteron of residual sulfur dioxide in herbal medicines.

State of Education on the Use of Oral Hygiene Supplies among Dental Prosthesis Mounted (치과보철물장착자의 구강위생관리용품사용에 관한 교육 실태)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the state of oral health control education experiences among dental prosthesis users. The subjects in this study were 267 adults who were aged between 18 and less than 65 and resided in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. A survey was conducted from March to June, 2011, and the statistical package SPSS 11.5 was employed to analyze the collected data. The findings of the study were as follows: As for the state of education on the use of oral hygiene supplies, The unmarried respondents considered the use of oral hygiene supplies to be more conducive to oral health than the married ones. The respondents aged between 18 and 39 considered the use of dental hygiene supplies to be more beneficial to oral health than those aged between 40 and 64, and the former deemed it more absolutely necessary to use oral hygiene supplies than the latter). Those who used oral hygiene supplies viewed the use of oral hygiene supplies as more conducive to oral health and considered it more absolutely necessary to use oral hygiene supplies. The respondents expressed higher satisfaction with education on how to wash prosthesis and how to choose oral hygiene supplies. The above-mentioned findings illustrated that the dental prosthesis users were well aware of oral hygiene supplies, and that their satisfaction level with related education was not high in comparison with their awareness of oral hygiene supplies. Therefore dental institutions should provide more authentic education for dental prosthesis users.

Manufacture and Characteristics of Concrete Sidewalk Blocks Using Photocatalyst Agent (광촉매제를 사용한 콘크리트 보도블록의 제조 및 특성)

  • In this study, the flexural strength, absorption rate, methylene blue photo catalyst decomposition performance and anti-fouling performance were evaluated according to the photo catalyst mixing rate and block surface wash status by applying photo catalyst to the surface layer of concrete sidewalk block. The results showed that the flexural strength of the block that mixed photo catalyst only in the surface layer of the concrete block was 5.32MPa of the general block (SNW) of 5% photo catalyst, compared to 5.46MPa of the non-mixed concrete block of the reference concrete block. Surface washing block (SW) 5.26MPa, 10% photo catalyst general block (SNW) 5.26MPa, and 5.15MPa surface washing block (SW). It has been shown that the presence of surface washing and the mixing rate of photo catalyst in the concrete block have no effect on the flexural strength. Moreover, the photoreaction performance of concrete sidewalk blocks showed that the methylene blue removal rate of specimens with 5% TiO2 was 34.2%, the methylene blue removal rate of specimens with 10% TiO2 was 37.1%, and the removal rate of the methylene blue of specimens with 5% TiO2 was about 37.9% and 10% mixed specimens with TiO2 was about 37.6%.

Bioequivalence of BestidineTM Tablet to Dong-A GasterTM Tablet (Famotidine 20 mg) (동아가스터 정(파모티딘 20 mg)에 대한 베스티딘 정의 생물학적동등성)

  • A bioequivalence study of $Bestidine^{TM}$ tablets (Choong Wae Pharma. Corp., Korea) to Dong-A $Gaster^{TM}$ (Dong-A Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Korea) tablets was conducted according to the guidelines of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). Twenty four healthy male Korean volunteers received each medicine at the famotidine dose of 40 mg in a $2{\times}2$ crossover study. There was a one-week wash out period between the doses. Plasma concentrations of famotidine were monitored by a high-performance liquid chromatography for over a period of 12 hours after the administration. $AUC_t$ (the area under the plasma concentration-time curve from time zero to 12 hr) was calculated by the linear trapezoidal rule method. $C_{max}$ (maximum plasma drug concentration) and $T_{max}$ (time to reach $C_{max}$) were compiled from the plasma concentration-time data. Analysis of variance was carried out using logarithmically transformed $AUC_t$ and $C_{max}$. No significant sequence effect was found for all of the bioavailability parameters indicating that the crossover design was properly performed. The 90% confidence intervals of the $AUC_t$ ratio and the Cmax ratio for $Bestidine^{TM}/Gaster^{TM}$ were log 0.90-log 1.06 and log 0.98-log 1.20, respectively. These values were within the acceptable bioequivalence intervals of 0.80-1.25. Thus, our study demonstrated the bioequivalence of $Bestidine^{TM}$ and $Gaster^{TM}$ with respect to the rate and extent of absorption.

Flotation for Improving Grade of Domestic Fine Coal (국내산(國內産) 미립(微粒) 석탄(石炭)의 품위향상(品位向上)을 위한 부유선별(浮遊選別) 연구(硏究))

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the possibility of obtaining high grade coal from 57.39% of fixed carbon fine coal. Also, the mineralogical, physical/chemical and liberation characteristics are to be identified to decrease in ash amount, during the pre-processing of clean coal technology. In this study, batch flotation and CPT column flotation proper for the processing of fine particles were used with the variation in kinds and quantity of frother, collector and depressant. Also air flow rate and feeding rates were examined. As a result of batch flotation using 20% of pulp density DMU 101 collector(100 mL/ton), AF65 frother(300 mL/ton), sodium metaphosphate depressant (1 kg/ton), 67.57% of ash rejection and 70.90% of combustible recovery were obtained. The result of CPT column flotation was 85.59% of ash rejection and 88.97% of combustible recovery under the conditions of 5% of pulp density, DMU-101 collector (100 mL/ton), AF65 frother(10 L/ton), SMP depressant(1 kg/ton), wash water(100 mL/min.) and air flow rate(1,200 mL/min.).

The Effect of Coptidis Rhizoma, Feaxini Cortex, Jinpisan(秦皮散) on Experimental Pseudomonas aeruginosa Keratitis. (黃連, 秦皮, 秦皮散이 綠膿菌性 角膜炎에 미치는 效果에 관한 實驗的 硏究)

  • Coptidis Rhizoma, Fraxini Cortex, Jinpisan(秦皮散) have been as eye washes of inflammatory eye disease in the oriental medicine. Especially Jinpisan(秦皮散) has been used for the disease which is similar to Peudomonas aeruginisa keratitis. This research was attempted to investigate the effect of Coptidis Rhizoma, Fraxini Cortex, Jinpisan(秦皮散), on Peudoronas aeruginisa keratitis. Pseudomonas aeruginosa keratitis causes a deep rapid intense ulceration which often leads to perforation of the cornea within 48 hours. In this research, we induced keratits in the rabbits by inoculating Pesudomonas aeruginosa(9027) and observed the effect on the keratitis and the irritation against the external eye. Also we mesured the minimum inhibitory consentration(MIC) of Coptidis Rhizoma, Fraxini Cortex, Jinpisan(秦皮散) by agar diliution method and the anti-bacterial activites by disk method. The tested bacteria were as follows : a) Pseudomonas aeruginosa (9027), b) Streptococcus pneumoniae(6303), c) Staphylococcus epidermidis(12228), d) Staphylococcus aureus(6538P). The results were as follows ; 1. The groups which were applied eye washes of Fraxini Cortex, Jinpisan reavealed a significant effect, but the group applied eye wash of Coptidis Rhizoma reveaded no effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa keratitis. 2. Applying eye washes of Coptidis Rhizoma, Fraxini Cortex, Jinisan revealed an irritation against external eyes. 3. Coptidis Rhizoma showed an anti-bacterial activity on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylucoccus aureus by agar diliution method 4. Coptidis Rhizoma showed an anti-bacterial activity on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus by disk method. 5. Fraxini Cortex showed an anti-bacterial activity on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus by agar diliution method 6. Fraxini Cortex showed an anti-bacterial activity on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Sireptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphy1ococcus aureus by disk method. 7. Jinpisan showed an anti-bacterial activity on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus by agar diliution method. 8. Jinpisan showed an anti-bacterial activity on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus by disk method. According to the above results, Fraxini Cortex, Jinpisan(秦皮散) are recognized to have an effective treatment on the Pesudomonas aeruginosa keratitis, so this experiment is thought to be a basic ingredient in proving the effect of Fraxini Cortex, Jinpisan which is applied many in documents and clinical medicine. In the comparison of anti-bacterial activity and results of treatment on the Pesudomonas aeruginosa keratitis, Jinpisan(秦皮散) was more effective than Coptidis Rhizoma, Fraxini Cortex.

Development of Nested-PCR Assay to Detect Acidovorax citrulli, a Causal Agent of Bacterial Fruit Blotch at Cucurbitaceae (박과 작물에 과일썩음병을 일으키는 Acidovorax citrulli 검출을 위한 nested-PCR 검사법 개발)

  • The specific and sensitive nested-PCR method to detect Acidovorax citrulli, a causal agent of bacterial fruit blotch on cucurbitaceae, was developed. PCR primers were designed from the draft genome sequence which was obtained with the Next Generation Sequencing of A. citrulli KACC10651, and the nested-PCR primer set (Ac-ORF 21F/Ac-ORF 21R) were selected by checking of specificity to A. citrulli with PCR assays. The selected nested-PCR primer amplified the 140 bp DNA only from A. citrulli strains, and detection sensitivity of the nested PCR increased 10,000 times of $1^{st}$ PCR detection limit (10 ng genomic DNA/PCR). The nested PCR detected A. citrulli from the all samples of seed surface wash (external seed detection) of the artificially inoculated watermelon seeds with $10^1cfu/ml$ and above population of A. citrulli while the nested PCR could not detected A. citrulli from the mashed seed suspension (internal seed detection) of the all artificially inoculated watermelon seeds. When the naturally infested watermelon seeds (10% seed infested rate with grow-out test) used, the nested PCR detected A. citrulli from 2 seed samples out of 10 replication samples externally and 5 seed samples out of 10 replication samples internally. We believe that the nested-PCR developed in this study will be useful method to detect A. citrulli from the Cucurbitaceae seeds.
