Effects of Taraxacum mongolicum Extract on Blood Glucose Levels and Lipid Profiles in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

  • This study was designed to evaluate antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic effects of ethanol extracts of Taraxacum mongolicum(T.m.) on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to five groups: normal (NC), STZ-control (DC), and three experimental groups. Diabetes was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats with a single intravenous injection [45 mg/kg body weight (b.w.)] of STZ. An ethanol extract of T.m. was orally given to diabetic rats for 14 days. Three experimental groups were additionally treated with T.m. extract at doses of 1 g/kg b.w./day for T.m.-1, 2 g/kg b.w./day for T.m.-2, and 3 g/kg b.w./day for T.m.-3. Oral administration of T.m.-2 significantly increased their body weights. T.m.-1 and T.m.-2 significantly decreased aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels than DC. T.m.-1 and T.m.-2 group significantly decreased blood glucose levels. Total cholesterol, triglycerides, and free fatty acids were significantly decreased whereas high-density lipoprotein cholesterol was significantly increased in groups treated with T.m. extract than those in the DC group. These results support the fact that administration of T.m. extract can reduce hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia risk in diabetic rats.

Calibration of Pyranometer with Solar Radiation Intercomparison Observation at Research Institute for Radiation-Satellite, Gangneung-Wonju National University (강릉원주대학교 복사-위성연구소에서 실외 비교관측을 통한 전천일사계 교정)

  • Although the technology for the observation of solar radiation is rapidly developing worldwide, in Korea the guidelines for comparing observations of solar radiation are only now under preparation. In this study, a procedure for intercomparison observations of solar radiation was established which accounts for meteorological and geographical conditions. The intercomparisons among observations by national reference pyranometers were carried out at the Asia Regional Radiation Center, Japan, in 2017. Recently, the result of the calibration of the reference pyranometer of the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) has been reported. Using the KMA pyranometer as a reference, comparisons between observations and calibrations were carried out for the standard (B to J) pyranometers of the KMA, and for the reference (A) and the standard pyranometers of the Gangneung-Wonju National University. The intercomparisons were carried out between October 24 and October 25, 2018. The sensitivity constants were adjusted according to the results of the data analysis performed on October 24. On October 25, a post-comparison observation was also performed, and the data of the participating pyranometers were verified. The sensitivity constants were calculated using only data corresponding to a solar radiation of $450.0W\;m^{-2}$ or higher. The B and I pyranometers exhibited a small error (${\pm}0.50W\;m^{-2}$), and the applied sensitivity constants were in the range $0.08-0.16{\mu}V(W\;m^{-2})^{-1}$. For the C pyranometer, the adjustment of the sensitivity constant was the largest, i.e., $-0.16{\mu}V(W\;m^{-2})^{-1}$. As a result, the nine candidate pyranometers could be calibrated with an average error of $0.06W\;m^{-2}$ (0.08%) with respect to the KMA reference, which falls within the allowed tolerance of ${\pm}1.00%$ (or ${\pm}4.50W\;m^{-2}$).

  • In this study, the performance of a thermo siphon type radiator made of copper for LED lighting system was evaluated by using an inverse heat transfer method. Heating experiments and finite element heat transfer analysis were conducted for three different cases. The data obtained from experiments were compared with the analysis results. Based on the data obtained from experiments, the inverse heat transfer method was used in order to evaluate the heat transfer coefficient. First, the heat transfer analysis was conducted for non-vacuum state, without the refrigerant. The evaluated heat transfer coefficient on the radiator surface was 40W/$m^2^{\circ}C$. Second, the heat transfer analysis was conducted for non-vacuum state, with the refrigerant, resulting in the heat transfer coefficient of 95W/$m^2^{\circ}C$. Third, the heat transfer analysis was conducted for vacuum state, with refrigerant. For the third case, the evaluated heat transfer coefficients were 140W/$m^2^{\circ}C$. For the third case, the evaluated heat transfer coefficients were 140W/$m^2^{\circ}C$ for the radiator body, 5W/$m^2^{\circ}C$. As a result of inverse heat transfer analysis, it was confirmed that the thermal performance of the current radiator was best in the case of the vacuum state using the refrigerant.

Temporal and Spatial Variations in the Wave Energy Potential of the East Coastal Seas of Korea (동해 연안 파력 부존량의 시간적 및 공간적인 변동 양상)

  • In this study, the wave energy potential (WEP) was evaluated using the wave data measured at nine stations along the Korean east coast and compared with the results of previous studies. Along the Korean east coast, seasonal variations in the WEP were around 6.4 kW/m in winter and 1.2 kW/m in summer, greater than spatial variations of 2.5~4.3 kW/m. In most stations, the wave power during June to July were shown to be smallest. The estimated annual average WEP was greatest in the Mukho and Jukbyeon stations located in the middle of the Korean east coast at around 4.3 kW/m, and smallest in the Jinha station at around 2.5 kW/m. The results found using the previous hindcast data showed WEP having a tendency to decrease from south to north. However, in this study, the WEP showed a tendency of being greatest in the middle of the Korean east coast and decreasing in both north and south directions.

Effects of Evaporation Processes and a Reduction Annealing on Thermoelectric Properties of the Sb-Te Thin Films (증착공정 및 환원분위기 열처리가 Sb-Te 박막의 열전특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of evaporation processes and a reduction annealing on thermoelectric properties of the Sb-Te thin films prepared by thermal evaporation have been investigated. The thin film evaporated by using the powders formed by crushing a $Sb_2Te_3$ ingot as an evaporation source exhibited a power factor of $2.71{\times}10^{-4}W/m-K^2$. The thin film processed by evaporation of the mixed powders of Sb and Te as an evaporation source showed a power factor of $0.12{\times}10^{-4}W/m-K^2$. The thin film fabricated by coevaporation of Sb and Te dual evaporation sources possessed a power factor of $0.73{\times}10^{-4}W/m-K^2$. With a reduction annealing at $300^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs, the power factors of the films evaporated by using the $Sb_2Te_3$ ingot-crushed powders and coevaporated with Sb and Te dual evaporation sources were remarkably improved to $24.1{\times}10^{-4}W/m-K^2$ and $40.2{\times}10^{-4}W/m-K^2$, respectively.

A Study on Quality and Economical Analysis of B-WLL and Optical Transmission Systems for Substituting M/W Relay System (M/W 중계장치 대체를 위한 B-WLL 및 광전송 장치의 품질과 경제성 분석에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, in order to exclude the expansion of M/W relay frequency or its new frequency assignment possibly, we analyzed a possibility of substituting M/W system by B-WLL or optical fiber network regarding service quality and economical points. To define the target of service quality, pre-condition and analysis method for the selected media have been derived to compare each other. E1 transmission with BER 10$^{-1}$ was chosen as a reference capacity, and service distance was calculated f3r the selected media as a function of availability. Also from the economical point we considered 3 systems such as optical fiber, M/W, and B-WLL based upon basic system structure, and analyzed them for various line configurations of fiber optic and B-WLL according to service period, system capacity, transmission distance, and data rate. It was confirmed that B-WLL can provide quality of service with 99.999 % availability within 1.6 km cell radius, and for optical fiber substitution, the leased fiber conduit on an electric pole is more economical than M/W system irrespective of service period, but in case of directly digging for underground conduit, it turned out ineffective regardless of cabling duct types.

Effect of Current Density on the Crystal Structure of Ni-W Alloys Prepared by Electrodeposition (Ni-W 합금도금의 결정구조에 미치는 전류밀도의 영향)

  • Ni-W alloys containing 10 to 50wt% W were prepared by electrodeposition. Tungsten content in the alloy increased with current density. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the alloy was crystalline phase when deposited at current densities lower than 50mA/${cm}^2$. Their crystal structure transformed to amorphous at higher current densities. In terms of tungsten content, the crystal -+ amorphous transition occurred at 40-46wt% which was identified by the 3 fold increase in the width of a diffraction peak. The lattice parameter of crystalline phase increased with W upto 40wt% which is higher than the solubility limit of W (about 30wt%) in Ni. Therefore, the alloys are considered to be Ni solid solution supersaturated with W. The amorphous Ni-W alloys were recrystallized by annealing them at temperatures over $400^{\circ}C$. This was evidenced by the appearance a strong [ 11 11 annealing texture. The supersaturated W was precipitated during the annealing at over $800^{\circ}C$. The current-density dependence of W content and crystallinity was utilized to produce alternating layers of crystalline (30wt% W) and amorphous (50wt%) phases which may exhibit unique mechanical and corrosion properties.

$35{\mu}m$$44{\mu}m$ pixel pitch $\mu$-볼로미터의 높은 감도를 위한 열적 고립 설계 및 시뮬레이션

  • $\mu$-볼로미터의 pixel pitch가 $44{\mu}m$에서 $35{\mu}m$로 작아지며 볼로미터에 입사되는 적외선의 광량은 역시 80% 정도 감소하게 된다. 불로미터 leg 폭과 길이는 구조적 안정을 위해 고정하였으며 두께를 변화하였다. 열적 고립이 개선되는 결과는 시뮬레이션을 통해 비교 분석하였다. Leg를 구성하는 a-Si과 Ti의 두께 변화에 의해 $44{\mu}m$ pixel pitch 인 경우 열 전도도가 1.52E-7 [W/K] 에서 9.64E-8 [W/K]로 개선되는 결과를 얻었으며, $35{\mu}m$인 경우 열 전도도는 1.21E-7 [W/K]에서 1.07E-7 [W/K] 로 개선되는 결과를 얻었다.

Influence of Sputtering Conditions on The Coercive Force and Effective Permeability of Permalloy Thin Films (퍼멀로이 박막의 보자력 및 실효투자율에 미치는 스퍼터링 조건의 영향)

  • RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링법으로 제작된 퍼멀로이(NiFe) 박막에 대하여 투입전력, 아르곤 압력, 바이어스 전압등의 스퍼터링 조건이 퍼멀로이 박막의 자기특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 투입전력에 따른 보자력의 변화는 300~400W에서 낮은 값을 지녔으며 아르곤 압력에 따른 변화는 1~5mTorr에서 낮은 값을 나타내었다. 스퍼터링 조건에 따른 최소의 보자력값은 400 W, 5mTorr 와 300 W, 2mTorr에서 각각 0.10 Oe를 나타내었고 최대의 투자율값은 400 W, 5mTorr에서 2800(1 MHz)을 나타내었다. 또한 저압의 스 퍼터링 압력에서 바이아스를 가할 경우 보자력은 이에 비례해서 오히려 증가하였다. 박막의 Ni 함량의 변화는 아르곤 압력이 증가함에 따라 점차적으로 감소하나 2~10mTorr 범위에서는 다시 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 내부응력은 아르곤 압력이 증가함에 따라 압축응력에서 인장응력으로 변하였으며 5mTorr에서 내 부응력이 거의 사라졌다.

  • This study was carry out evaluation of seasonal performance for the decentralized desalination system with the solar thermal system and the photovoltaic power system. First operating demonstration system was set up in Cheju in 2006. These system comprises the desalination unit with designed daily fresh water capacity of $2m^3$ and is supplied by a $120m^2$ evacuated tubular solar collector, a $6m^3$ heat storage tank, and a 5kW photovoltaic power generation supply the electricity for hydraulic pumps to move the working fluids. In a spring season day average $392W/m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce about 340liter. In a summer season day average $296W/m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce about 328liter. In a autumn season day average $349W/m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce about 277liter. In a winter season day average $342W/m^2$, the daily fresh water showed to produce about 271liter.
