  • To investigate the properties of high flowing and high strength concrete with crushed sand and fly ash for CFT structure, many batches were performed by a trial-error method. In the experiment W/B was set up three levels as 0.25, 0.30 and 0.35. Also the variables of the experiment were a substitution ratio of fly ash, a blend ratio of crushed sand and the ages of specimens(3, 7, 28 days). The results of this study are summarized as the follows; 1) The effect a substitution ratio of fly ash on the compressive strength was not consistent with age. For twenty-eight day compressive strength, the best result was come out when cement was substituted by 10% of fly ash. 2) The decrease of the water binder ratio, the increase of compressive strength and elastic modulus. Also the relationship is very similar to the case of a normal concrete

  • Bacteriophage M13 DNAs carrying the wild type or base substituted SV40 DNA replication origins were used for replication assay. In vivo and in vitro assay with African green monkey cell line COS-1 showed that the replication of M13-SV40 recombinant DNAs was restricted like a pBR322 SV40 recombinant DNA(Lusky and Botchan, 1981). Furthermore, recombinant phage DNAs isolated from the transfected siminan cells subsequently show a reduced ability to retransform E. coli. But pATSV-W(Kim et al., 1988) was replicated in COS-1 cells normally. We think that a poison sequence may exist on bacteriophage M13 DNA like pBR322.

  • The substituted lithium ferrites combine useful ferromagnetic properties with high Curie temperature ranging from 55$0^{\circ}C$ to 85$0^{\circ}C$, [1] high saturation magnetization, [2] and low microwave dielectric loss.[3] Saturation magnetization of (Z $n_{1-x}$ F $e_{x}$)A[L $i_{0.5x}$F $e_{ 2-0.5x}$]$_{B}$ $O_4$ increased with zinc concentration, followed by a decrease at x = 0.7.[4] This is attributed to a dilution of the A-site with zinc which initially causes an increase in saturation magnetization due to the dominance of the B-site. • Lower arm for automobile has been made in steel traditionally. Nowadays steel is being substituted fur aluminum to reduce weight of automobile. Widely applied production method of aluminum component has been casting processes or cast/forging processes. But casting or cast/forging processes have limits of application to parts which is required high strength durability like automotive component. In this research, hot forging process has been adopted to produce aluminum lower arm to ensure required mechanical properties. To reduce production cost, 2 pieces with 1 blow process was developed. Optimization and verification of hot forging process for aluminum lower arm was performed by computer aided engineering using finite volume methods.

  • Multiple regression analysis was used for the calculation of pKa values of 15 substituted benzaldoximes by using various types of descriptors as parameters. These descriptors are based on quantum mechanical treatments. They were derived by employing semi-empirical calculation represented by the PM3 model and an Abinitio method expressed by Hartree-Fock(HF) model performed at the 6-311 G(d, p) level of theory. The parameters tested for their ability to represent the variations observed in the experimental pKa(s) are atomic and structural properties including Muliken charges on the atoms of hydroxyl group and C=N bond, the angle $C_6-C_1-C_7$, and length of O-H bond. Molecular properties are also used like energies of HOMO and LUMO, hardness(${\eta}$), chemical potential(${\mu}$), total energy(TE), dipole of molecule(DM), and electrophilicity index(W). The relation between pKa values and each of these parameters of the studied compounds is investigated. Depending on these relations, two sets of parameters were constructed for comparison between the PM3 and HF methods. The results obtained favor the Abinitio method for such applications although both models proved to have high predictive power and have sufficient reliability to describe the effect of substituents on pKa values of benzaldoxime compounds under consideration which is clear from the values of correlation coefficient $R^2$ obtained and the consistency between the experimental and the calculated values.

  • Chalcones are naturally occurring, biologically active molecules generating interest from a wide range of research applications including synthetic methodology development, biological activity investigation and studying fragmentation patterns. In this article, a series of chalcones has been synthesized and their fragmentation behavior was studied using modern ambient ionization technique Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART). DART ion source connected with an ion trap mass spectrometer was used for the fragmentation of various substituted chalcones. The chalcones were introduced to the DART source using a glass capillary without sample preparation step. All the chalcones showed prominent molecular ion peaks $[M]^{{\cdot}+}$ corresponding to the structures. Multistage mass spectral data $MS^n$ ($MS^2$ and $MS^3$) were collected for all the chalcones studied. The chalcones with substitutions at 3, 4 or 5 positions gave product ion peaks with the loss of a phenyl radical ($Ph^{\cdot}$) by radical initiated ${\alpha}$-cleavage, while substitution at 2 position of chalcone in the A-ring gave a product ion peak with the loss of substituted styryl radical (PhCH = $CH^{\cdot}$). In case of the chalcones with the substituent at 4 positions in A and B rings gave both types of fragmentation patterns. In conclusion, chalcones can be easily characterized using modern DART interface in very short time and efficiently without any cumbersome sample pretreatment.

  • We investigated the effects of the addition of Mn and $AB_5$ type alloy on the electrochemical characteristics of Ti-Cr-V BCC type alloys as anode materials for Ni-MH battery. The activation behavior and discharge capacity of the BCC type alloys were significantly improved by ball-milling with the $LmNi_{4.1}Al_{0.25}Mn_{0.3}Co_{0.65}$ alloy, because the $AB_5$ type alloy acted as hydrogen path on the surface of the BCC type alloy. Among the Mn substituted alloys($Mn=0.03%{\sim}0.08%$), the $Ti_{0.32}Cr_{0.38}Mn_{0.05}V_{0.25}$ alloy ball-milled with $AB_5$ type alloy exhibited the greatest discharge capacity of $336\;mAh{\cdot}g^{-1}$. In addition, Mn substituted alloys exhibited the lower plateau pressure in P-C- T curve, the better hydrogen storage capacity and faster surface activation compared with the alloy without Mn.

  • Iron-excess gallium ferrite, $Ga_{0.6}Fe_{1.4}O_3$ (GFO), is known to have room-temperature ferromagnetic phases and potentially exhibit ferroelectricity as well [1]. But, leaky polarization-electric field (PE) hysteresis curves of the GFO thin film are hurdle to prove its spontaneous polarization, in other words, ferroelecticity. One of the reasons that the GFO films have leaky PE hysteresis loop is carrier hopping between $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ sites due to oxygen deficiency. We focus on reducing conducting current by substituting divalent cations at $Fe^{2+}$ sites. GFO thin films were grown epitaxially along b-axis normal to $SrRuO_3/SrTiO_3$ (111) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. Current density of the ion-substituted GFO thin films was reduced by $10^3$ or more. Ferroelectric properties of the ion-substituted GFO thin films were measured using macroscopic and microscopic schemes. In particular, local ferroelectric properties of the GFO thin films were exhibited and their remnant polarization and piezoelectric d33 coefficient were obtained.

  • Several bisphosphine- and bisphosphite-substituted Re-imido complexes have been prepared from Re(NPh)(PPh3)2Cl3, 1, and Re(N-C6H3-i-Pr2)2Cl3(py), 4. Compound 1 reacted with trimethyl phosphate (P(OMe)3) to give a mixture of two isomers,mer,trans-Re(NPh)(P(OMe)3)2Cl3, 2, and fac,cis-Re(NPh)(P(OMe)3)2Cl3, 2a. In this reaction, the mer,trans-isomer is a major product. Complex 1 also reacted with triethylphosphine (PEt3) to exclusively give mertrans-Re(NPh)(PEt3)2Cl3, 3. Compound 4 reacted with trimethylphosphine (PMe3) to give mer,trans-Re(N-C6H3-i-Pr2)(PMe3)2Cl3, 5, which was converted to mer-Re(N-C6H3-i-Pr2)(PMe)(OPMe3)Cl3, 6, on exposure to air. • In order to investigate the physical and chemical properties of artificial culture media, the specimens were substituted with 5~20% clay, 10~30%(w) quick lime, 5~l5%(w) burnt plaster and 10%(w) sawdust. Fly ash-clay bodies were sintered at 1,050~1,20$0^{\circ}C$ and then their properties were determined. It was found that 90FA10JC(fly ash +clay(90:10, %(w)) specimen sintered at 1,15$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. had good physical and chemical properties. When this composition was supplement with 10%(w) sawdust, bulk density water absorption, apparent porosity, compressive strength and pH after 240 hrs curing time were 1.14, 54.4%, 39.5%, 54 kgf.cm$^{-2}$ and 7.1 respectively. The physical properties of fly ash-quick lime-burnt plaster system specimens were superior to FAJC systems. However, this composition we not suitable as a artificial culture media because of its high pH. In this study, it was shown that 90FA10JC10SD(90FA10JC +10%(w) sawdust) system exhibited the best physical properties.
