A Microwave Push-Push VCO with Enhanced Power Efficiency in GaInP/GaAs HBT Technology (향상된 전력효율을 갖는 GaInP/GaAs HBT 마이크로파 푸쉬-푸쉬 전압조정발진기)

  • This paper presents a new push-push VCO technique that extracts a second harmonic output signal from a capacitive commonnode in a negativegm oscillator topology. The generation of the $2^{nd}$ harmonics is accounted for by the nonlinear current-voltage characteristic of the emitter-base junction diode causing; 1) significant voltage clipping and 2) different rising and falling time during the switching operation of core transistors. Comparative investigations show the technique is more power efficient in the high-frequency region that a conventional push-push technique using an emitter common node. Prototype 12GHz and 17GHz MMIC VCO were realized in GaInP/GaAs HBT technology. They have shown nominal output power of -4.3dBm and -5dBm, phase noise of -108 dBc/Hz and -110.4 dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset, respectively. The phase noise results are also equivalent to a VCO figure-of-merit of -175.8 dBc/Hz and -184.3 dBc/Hz, while dissipate 25.68mW(10.7mA/2.4V) and 13.14mW(4.38mA/3.0V), respectively.

  • 북극 다산기지가 있는 니알슨 인근 해역인 Kongsfjorden만은 일부 해역이 해빙으로 덮혀 있는 반폐쇄적인 만으로 수심이 평균 200m 이상 된다. 이곳 북극 지방은 하절기 라도 태양의 고도가 낮아 해색위성분야의 극지활용에 대한 가능성 여부도 명확하게 알려져 있지 못하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 북극 다산기지가 위치한 스발바드 군도의 니알슨 주변 해역(Kongsfjorden 해역)을 중심으로 2006년 8월 현장관측된 자료들을 유사한 시기의 한반도 주변 해역에서 현장관측된 자료들과 비교/분석하여 해양환경적 특성과 해수광학적인 특성이 어떤 차이가 있는지를 비교 분석하였다. 또한 북극 지방에서 인공위성을 이용한 해색위성자료의 극지활용이 가능한지를 검토하였다. 해수의 광 특성으로, 니알슨 주변 해역의 ${\alpha}^*_{ph}(440)$ 최대값은 $0.1m^2/mg$으로 한반도 주변해수의 ${\alpha}^*_{ph}(440)$ 최대값보다 약 2배정도 높게 측정되어 플랑크톤의 광 흡수효율이 중위도보다 상대적으로 높은 것으로 분석되었다. ${\alpha}^*_{ss}(440)$ 값은 $0.04-0.1m^2/g$으로 동중국해와 유사하며,한반도 주변해수보다 높은 값을 나타냈다. 이것은 Kongsfjorden 해역의 부유물질(SS) 구성성분이 동중국해와 유사한 무기광물 입자로 주로 구성되어 있음을 보여주고 있다. ${\alpha}_{dom}(400)$ 값은 $0.08-0.25m^{-1}$로 한반도 주변해수의 ${\alpha}_{dom}(400)$이 값과 유사하고 연안해역의 ${\alpha}_{dom}(400)$ 값보다 낮은 값을 나타냈다. $E_d(460)$의 평균값은 Konsfjorden 해역 $40mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$, 동중국해 $120mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$, 황해남부 $110mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$, 남해연안 $100mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$, 진해만 $100mW/cm^2/{\mu}m$이었다. 이와 같은 현장관측결과를 토대로 분석한 북극 다산기지 주변 해역의 해수광학적인 환경 특성은 용존유기물의 흡광도를 기준으로 볼 때 대양(Open Sea)의 광 특성과 유사하였다. 또한 북극지방에서 태양의 해수 입사 광량은 중위도의 약 40%정도이지만 해색위성자료의 극지활용이 가능하다고 판단되었다.

  • This paper describes the experimental study of reverse-Brayton refrigeration system for application to high temperature superconductivity electric devices and LNG re-liquefaction. The reverse-Brayton refrigeration cycle is designed with operating pressure of 0.5 and 1.0 MPa, cooling capacity of 2 kW at 77 K, and neon as a working fluid. The refrigeration system is developed with multi scroll compressor, turbo expander and plate heat exchanger. From experiments, the performance characteristics of used components is measured and discussed for 77-120 K of operating temperature. The developed refrigeration system shows the cooling capacity of 1.23 kW at 77 K and 1.64 kW at 110 K.

  • In this study, the dyeing characteristics of nylon fabric which is dyed with supercritical fluid were investigated. There were two dyes used in the dyeing experiment: C.I. Disperse Red 167 and C.I. Disperse Violet 93. Dyeing temperature, pressure, and leveling time were fixed at 110℃, 250bar, 60minutes, and the experiment was conducted with dyeing concentration of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.85% o.w.f. The analysis of the experimental results was found out through the measurement of washing fastness and color coordinate. In addition, the calibration curve of each dye was drawn up and the amount of remaining dye was checked by measuring the absorbance of the residual dye. As a result of color difference measurement, as the concentration increased, the L⁎ value decreased and the K/S value increased. However, the increase in K/S value compared to the amount of input decreased as the concentration increased. The comparative experiment on the amount of residual dye(C.I. Disperse Red 167) in the pot showed that 99.14% of the amount was dyed at the concentration of 0.1% o.w.f, while it rapidly decreased to 77% at 0.85% o.w.f. C.I. Disperse Violet 93 dye also decreased from 0.5% o.w.f to 93.91%. In the washing fastness experiment of both dyes, the level of washing fastness began to decrease from samples dyed at 0.5% o.w.f. It may be because the simply absorbed dye was produced instead of completely being fixed in the amorphous region of the nylon fiber.

Control of Phythophthora Blight of Pepper by grafting

  • Control effect of grafting with rootstocks on Phythophthora blight of pepper was evaluated. The 40∼45 day old seedlings of five pepper cultivars, Wangdaeback, Jinmi, Boosa, Samsungcho and Pochunngchun, as a scion were grafted with ten species of root stocks. There wasn't graft incompatibility in all scion-root stock combinations. After 21 days from inoculation with Phytopkhora capsici, incidence of Phythophthora blight of plant grafted with Kataguruma, R-Safe, R-16, YCM 334 and SCM 334 of rootstocks tested was decreased by 64.6∼100% compared to non-grafted plant whose disease severity was 3.7. However, plant grafted with Umsung native and Yeongdong native pepper was more sensitive to Phythophthora blight than non-grafed plant. Control effect by grafting was inversely proportional to virulence of inoculum and not significantly different among scion cultivars used. And resistant reaction of scion against Phytophthora blight was not affect that of scion-root stock plant in this study.

Inspection of Ceramic Coatings Using Nanoindentation and Frequency Domain Photoacoustic Microscopy

  • The elastic properties and thickness of mullite environmental barrier coatings grown through chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on silicon carbide substrates were measured using frequency domain photoacoustic microscopy. In this technique, extremely narrow bandwidth surface acoustic waves are generated with an amplitude modulated laser source. A photorefractive crystal based interferometer is used to detect the resulting surface displacement. The complex displacement field is mapped as a function of source-to-receiver distance in order to extract the wavelength of the surface acoustic wave at a given excitation frequency, and the phase velocity is determined. The coatings tested exhibited spatial variations in thickness and mechanical properties. The measured surface wave dispersion curves were used to extract an effective value for the elastic modulus and the coating thickness. Nanoindentation was used to validate the measurements of the effective elastic modulus. The average elastic modulus measured through the coating thickness using nanoindentation is compared to the effective modulus found using the photoacoustic system. Optical microscopy is used to validate the thickness measurements. The results indicate that the photoacoustic microscopy technique can be used to estimate the effective elastic properties in coatings exhibiting spatial inhomogeneities, potentially providing valuable feedback for the optimization of the CVD growth process.

Effect of Initial Texture on the Development of Goss Orientation of Asymmetrically Rolled Steel Sheets (비대칭 압연한 강판의 GOSS 방위 발달에 미치는 초기 집합조직의 영향)

  • The Goss texture component of {110}<001> is well known as one of the best texture components to improve the magnetic properties of electrical steel sheets. The small amount of the Goss texture component is obtained at the surface of the steel sheet by shear deformation due to friction between the steel sheet and the roll during conventional symmetric rolling. This study aims to identify a method to obtain high intensity of the Goss texture component not only at the surface but in the whole layer of the steel sheet by shear deformation of asymmetric rolling. Low carbon steel sheets, which have different initial texture, were asymmetrically rolled by about 50%, 70%, and 80%. The pole figures of the top, center, and bottom layers of the initial and asymmetrically rolled low carbon steel sheets were measured by an X-ray diffractometer. Based on the measured pole figures of these samples, the intensities of the main texture components were analyzed for the initial and asymmetrically rolled low carbon steel sheets. As a result, the initial low carbon steel sheet with the γ-fiber component showed a higher intensity of the Goss texture component in the whole layer than the steel sheet with other texture components after asymmetric rolling.

Texture Development of Cold Rolled and T-6 Treated 7X1X Al-alloy with 0.1% Sc (0.1% Sc이 첨가된 7X1X Al-합금의 압연과 T-6열처리에 따른 집합조직의 발달)

  • After extrusion, cold rolling and T-6 treatment, texture development of 7x1x Al-alloy with 0.1% Sc is studied. During extrusion the very strong <111>+weak <100> fiber texture is developed, which is Influenced on the formation of rolling texture. The texture after 80% cold rolling can be described by strong{112}<111>(Cu)+{123}<634>(S) component in the cross section of the extruded rod, the strong -fiber+weak{110}<001>(Goss) components in the longitudinal section, and the strong {110}<112>(Bs)+weak{001}<100>(Cube) components in the transverse section. The components of rolling texture are remained after T-6 treatment, but the maximum density of ODF is higher. The calculated mean r-values and the planar anisotropy are relatively high, which are dependent on the texture. After T-6 treatment, recrystallized equiaxed grains with average grain size of $1{\sim}2{\mu}m$ are obtained.

Transformation of Mosquito Larvicidal Bdillus sphaericus 1593 by Plasmid pGB215-110$\Delta$B (모기유충 방제균 Bacillus sphaericus 1593의 형질전환 조건)

  • Bacillus sphaericus 1593 is pathogenic to the larvae of a number of mosquito species that are known as important vectors for the transmission of certain human and animal diseases. As a preliminary experiment for developing a multfunctional B. sphaericus 1593 as a potent antagonist, we investigated the conditions for the protoplast transformation system of B. sphaericus 1593 using the plasmid pGB215-110$\Delta$B. The protoplast of B. sphaericus 1593 were obtained most efficiency by treating the cells with 500 $\mu$g/ml of lysozyme in the SMM buffer containing 0.5 M sucrose at pH 8.0 and 40$\circ$C for 60 minutes. The cell wall was regenerated on the plate containing 1.2% agar and 0.8 M mannitol. Under the best condition for protoplast formation and regeneration established in the work the highest frequency of transformation was achieved with the 40% PEG (M.W 4,000) treatment for 15 minutes of incubation at 4$\circ$C, and subsequently for 120 minutes incubation at 30$\circ$C for phenotypic expression. The highest transformation efficiency were observed at 1.0 $\mu$g/ml of the final concentration of the plasmid DNA and the plasmids were found to be fairly stable since about 70% of the plasmids were maintained after 8 successive daily transfers onto the fresh medium.

Design and Evaluation of a CMOS Image Sensor with Dual-CDS and Column-parallel SS-ADCs

  • This paper describes a CMOS image sensor (CIS) with dual correlated double sampling (CDS) and column-parallel analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and its measurement method using a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) integrated module. The CIS is composed of a $320{\times}240$ pixel array with $3.2{\mu}m{\times}3.2{\mu}m$ pixels and column-parallel 10-bit single-slope ADCs. It is fabricated in a $0.11-{\mu}m$ CIS process, and consumes 49.2 mW from 1.5 V and 3.3 V power supplies while operating at 6.25 MHz. The measured dynamic range is 53.72 dB, and the total and column fixed pattern noise in a dark condition are 0.10% and 0.029%. The maximum integral nonlinearity and the differential nonlinearity of the ADC are +1.15 / -1.74 LSB and +0.63 / -0.56 LSB, respectively.
