Weibull distribution with two parameters, shape (k) and scale (s) parameters are used to model the fatigue failure analysis due to periodic vortex shedding of the synovial fluid in knee joints. In order to determine the later parameter, a suitable statistical model is required for velocity distribution of synovial fluid flow. Hence, wide applicability of Weibull distribution in life testing and reliability analysis can be applied to describe the probability distribution of synovial fluid flow velocity. In this work, comparisons of three most widely used methods for estimating Weibull parameters are carried out; i.e. the least square estimation method (LSEM), maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and the method of moment (MOM), to study fatigue failure of bone joint due to periodic vortex shedding of synovial fluid. The performances of these methods are compared through the analysis of computer generated synovial fluidflow velocity distribution in the physiological range. Significant values for the (k) and (s) parameters are obtained by comparing these methods. The criterions such as root mean square error (RMSE), coefficient of determination ($R^2$), maximum error between the cumulative distribution functions (CDFs) or Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) and the chi square tests are used for the comparison of the suitability of these methods. The results show that maximum likelihood method performs well for most of the cases studied and hence recommended.
The present study deals with CFD analysis of 'The vortex generators on plastic plate heat exchanger'. When a vortex generator is placed on the heat transfer surface, the flow gets more complex because it entails complicated three-dimensional flows such as separation, reattachment, and recirculation. CFX-5.4, a commercial code utilizing unstructured mesh, has been used as a computational method for solving RANS(Reynolds-Averaged Wavier-Stokes) equations, and the applied turbulence model is $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. In addition, those computational analyses were implemented under various conditions , with or without the vortex generator between two plates, the number, form and the size of vortex generator, and different attack of angle. From the calculated temperature, velocity and pressure distribution, vorticity, wall heat flux and so on under those conditions, this study shows the effect of vortex on heat transfer.
The change in the NO emission indices (EINO) in a two-dimensional plane has been investigated, which is due to the interaction between a vortex and methane-air flames established at different equivalence ratios, by solving the field equation. After solving the field equation, the spatial distribution of G-values is obtained. The NO emission index is calculated after applying the appropriate relation between the G-values and the NO production rate or the mass fraction of methane obtained from the library of freely propagating flames created from detailed simulations. When a vortex exists in a reacting flow field, in general EINO slightly increases, whereas ElNO is lowered in the vicinity of the vortex regardless of flow direction. A change in vortex size has negligible impact on EINO$\_$T/ but increasing the vortex strength slightly increases EINO$\_$T/ in the domain of this study.
The analytical expressions for a partially coherent flat-topped vortex hollow beam propagating in uniaxial crystals orthogonal to the optical axis are derived, and the intensity and coherent vortex properties of partially coherent flat-topped vortex hollow beam propagation in uniaxial crystals orthogonal to the optical axis are analyzed by numerical examples. The influence of beam order parameter N, topological charge M, the coherence length and the ratio of refractive indices $n_e/n_o$ of uniaxial crystals on the normalized intensity distribution and coherent vortex of a partially coherent flat-topped vortex hollow beam propagating in uniaxial crystals are discussed in detail.

The aim of this study is to provide fundamental informations that make it possible to use a cool stream and a hot stream simultaneously. We changed the pressure of compressed air that flows into a tube, the inner diameter of orifice that a cold stream exits, and the mass flow rate ratio. And in each case, we measured the temperature of a cold stream and a hot stream in each exit of a tube. Also we measured the axial temperature distribution and the radial temperature distribution in internal space of a tube. From the study, following conclusive remarks can be made. Average flow rate that flows into a tube is in proportion to square root of inlet pressure. As inlet pressure increases axial and radial temperature distribution in the inner space of vortex-tube increase. As mass flow rate ratio change, separation point moves.
The process of energy separation in a low Pressure vortex tube with compressed air as a work-ing medium is studied in detail. Experimental data of the temperature of the cold and hot air leaving the vortex tube are presented. The variation of the maximum wall temperature along the inner surface of the vortex tube and the temperature distribution in a vortex tube provide useful information about the location of the stagnation point of the flow field at the axis of the vortex tube. Analysis of the results enabled to find the optimum length of the vortex tube, the optimum shape of the Throttle and the usefulness of the Sleeve. In this study Outer tube is used for the exhaust application. The hot gas flow is turned 180$^{\circ}$and passes the out-side of the vortex tube a second time heating it. From this geometric setup of a vortex tube He effects of energy separation and the prediction of the ignition of Diesel Soot is presented by experimental data.

An experimental model is investigated in this paper using the experimental method with a shock tube and the numerical technique. The shock-vortex interaction generated by this model is visualized with various methods: holographic interferometry, shodowgraphy, and numerical computation. In terms of shock dynamics, there are two meaningful physics in the present problem. They are reflective wave from the slip layer at the vortex edge and transmitted shock penetrating the vortex core. The discussion in this study is mainly focused on the two kinds of waves contributing to the quadrupolar pressure distribution around the vortex center during the interaction.
A numerical simulation was conducted to analyze the interaction of flame and vortices. The characteristic scales of flame and vortices were limited in the thin laminar flamelet regime. Within this regime, flame is assumed as discontinuity surface and its motion in flow field was described by G-equation instead of full governing equations. Additional approximations include distribution of line volume sources on flame surface to simulate effect of volume expansion. Contrast to previous calculations, current study employed vortex transport equation to evaluate attenuation and smearing of vortices. Two extreme conditions of frozen vortex and frozen flame were considered to validate the current method. Comparison with direct numerical simulation resulted in satisfactory quantitative agreement with higher computational efficiency which warrants the usefulness of the present model in more complex situation.
An experimental model and a conceptual model are investigated in this paper with both shock tube experiment and numerical technique. A noise prediction method of axial flow fan is developed by incorporating through-flow method and vortex shedding noise model. Fan noise is assumed to be generated due to the pressure fluctuation induced by wake vortices of fan blades and radiate as diploe distribution. The wake vortices are analyzed by combining Karman vortex street model and through-flow analysis results, and the vortex-induced fluctuating pressure on blade surface is calculated by thin airfoil theory. The predicted sound pressure levels and directivity patterns of fan noise by the present method are favorably compared with fan noise test data. Furthermore, the present method is shown to be very useful for predicting the aero-acoustic performance map of the fan operated at off-design point.
