Purpose: The end of one's life can be one of the most important times in human life. However, physicians, nurses and volunteer workers are not sufficiently trained to understand the end-life care with competence and confidence. The purpose of this study was to compare various education programs currently carried out for volunteer workers. Methods: Nine curricula of hospice and palliative cares for volunteer workers at hospital and palliative care settings. Results: The mean time duration of theory education at nine institutes was 21.56 hours (range; 14-30). The common curricula of hospice and palliative cares for volunteer workers included 'Understanding of hospice and palliative care', 'Understanding of life and death', and 'Understanding of psychologic problem of end-of-life'. The education method comprised lectures, off-line 8 institutes and on-line 1 instiutute. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop the standard curriculum as well as regularly updated education program for volunteer workers.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the level of nursing students' knowledge, attitude and behavior toward the elderly; correlations between the variables; and the factors influencing the behavior. Methods: Data were collected by 380 nursing students using a self-questionnaire from February 13th to 24th of 2017. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise linear regression with SPSS WIN 19.0. Result: The scores of knowledge, attitude and behavior toward elderly were 11.96 points (range 0~25), 4.51 points (range 1~7), 3.48 points (range 1~4), respectively. Significant differences were found in knowledge, attitude and behavior according to volunteer experience. There were positive correlations between the three variables. Factors influencing the behavior were volunteer experiences and the attitude toward the elderly, which explained about 17.7% of total variance. Conclusion: These results indicate a need to develop the gerontological nursing education program to lead to an increase of positive attitudes including volunteer work for the elderly. Accordingly, the program will help strengthen the nursing students' positive behavior toward the elderly.
The purposes of this study were to : a) examine the current foodservice management practices of twenty-one seniors centers in charge of hoke-delivered meal programs, b) evaluate the attitudes of one hundred and ten recipients of meal service program, and c) provide feedback for the efficient and effective foodservice management for the elderly. Statistical data analysis was completed using the SAS package program for descriptive analysis, T-test, and ANOVA. The results of quantitative analysis indicated that the costs of meals, containers and special foods were mostly dependent on the support from local government(Seoul city). The centers where the volunteers were over seventy five p ercent of the workers were frtty-eight percent and sixty-seven percent of the subjects in food preparation and food delivery to the homebound clients, respectively. Meal preparation and food purchasing were mainly practiced by social welfare worker. Standardized recipes were not developed and meal preparation was controlled under the cook' and volunteers' experiences. The survey results of recipients who participated the home-delivered meals program showed that the mean of meal satisfaction score was rated over three point five in the five-point scale. There were significant differences between dependent variables(volunteer's kindness, plate waste, menu variety) and independent variables(sex, receiving periods and family type of the subjects). Purpose: This study tested a model of hospice volunteer's motivations and outcomes to encourage more volunteer workers to participate in hospice care. Methods: This included 200 volunteers who attended the Autumn Conference in 2007 and 132 volunteers from five hospice organizations. Results: Volunteers' existential well-being affected an endogenous variable of volunteers' participation in volunteer activities. The durability of volunteer activity was affected by value motivation, the level of participation in volunteer activities and the level of job satisfaction. For volunteers' job satisfaction level, valid endogenous variables included existential well-being, social motivation, understanding motivation and value motivation. The durability of volunteer activities was indirectly affected through three different paths. Volunteers' existential well-being determined the level of their participation in volunteer activities, which in turn affected the durability of such activities. Social motivation influenced volunteers' job satisfaction, and then the durability of volunteer activities. Volunteers' understanding of motivation also influenced their job satisfaction, and then the durability of volunteer activities. Conclusion: Based on these results, this study proposes that the durability of volunteers activities could be improved by developing a program to improve volunteers' well-being and by providing volunteers with education on altruistic values, encouraging them to seek intellectual growth, and advocating them to continue volunteer activities based on close relationships with other volunteers.
The purpose of this study is to understand volunteer work experiences of senior citizen volunteers serving in the welfare center in K district in the aspect of an insider and to apprehend the meaning. The objects of this study are fifteen senior citizen volunteers and two social workers who do volunteer works in the welfare center, and this study utilized the qualitative study method through observations and in-depth interviews from 2009.09.02 to 2009.10.21. The data analysis is processed by the qualitative analysis program, Nvivo 2.0, and the processed data are analyzed in accordance with the grounded theories of Strauss and Corbin. As a result of reviewing data, the meanings about volunteer work experiences of senior citizens are induced as eight factors; senior citizens' identity in an old aging society, desire fulfillment through volunteer works by senior citizens, various leisure activities to help their health in mind and body, acceptance attitude about aging, mental supports from their families, finding activities suitable for each person's personality and capability, changes of perception about the handicapped, and endeavors to spend meaningful old age. Through results and discussion obtained by this study, the conclusion is as below: First, participation induction factors are identities of elderly people in aging society, acceptance attitudes toward aging and emotional support from families in the matter of senior citizens' volunteer work. Second, programs suitable for individual aptitude and capability should be implemented for activating senior citizens' volunteer work. Third, participation in senior citizens' volunteer work indicates desire satisfaction through senior citizens' volunteer work, leisure activities helping health for body and mind, and life changes such as changes of perception about handicapped people etc.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine an exercise program using a lay health leader for elderly participants. The test covered physical fitness (grip strength, static balance and complex movement abilities), depression, cognitive function and quality of life. Methods: A quasi- experimental study using a non-equivalent control group pre-post design was employed. The participants were 62 elders from an institution for the aged, of whom 30 were included in the experimental group and 32 in the control group. The exercise program using a resident volunteer as a lay health leader was run three times a week for 12 weeks. The collected data were analyzed by $x^2$ test, t-test, paired t-test, and ANCOVA with SPSS/WIN 19.0. Results: After the program, left grip strength (F=1.77, p<.001), right grip strength (F=9.97, p<.001), static balance (F=2.79, p<.001), ability to move complex (F=1.76, p<.001), depression (F=7.66, p<.001), the cognitive function (F=8.39, p<.001) and quality of life (F= 1.08, p<.001) in the experimental group were significantly better than those in the control group. Conclusion: Study findings indicated that using a resident volunteer as a lay health leader was effective. It can be recommended as a public health resource and for consistent and comfortable education for the elderly in communities.
The paper reviews the movement in the United States to supplement environmental regulations with volunteer programs that encourage institutions and industry to go beyond compliance to achieve greater reductions in their waste and emissions than might otherwise be accomplished through the exclusive reliance on increasingly rigorous "end of the pipe" regulations. These volunteer programs have as a common element the encouragement of "pollution prevention" as a preferable strategy. Pollution prevention is a term used in the US to describe strategies, technologies, policies, etc. that focus on eliminating waste and emissions at the source rather than just treating and controlling them. In some countries the term "Clean Technologies" is used rather than pollution prevention. In the paper the author reviews selected voluntary programs and reports on accomplishments to date for those programs.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Thailand as well as other countries. Evidences from studies in Asia show that alcohol consumption has been linked to an increased risk for various types of cancer. In the qualitative participatory action research presented here, the possibilities of a volunteer women's movement to reduce harmful alcohol consumption by facilitating the creation of emancipatory knowledge in the Thai-Isaan community was explored. During in-depth interviews with 10 female volunteer participants, the following themes emerged: merit making, developing a sense of personal empowerment, and the experience of participating in an action plan that utilized various strategies. The project activities empowered participants to create and share knowledge which was then applied toward action for change. Adoption of this type of program by local health care providers to reduce health problems and risks related to alcohol misuse in similar contexts and cultures is recommended.

In-depth interview research and qualitative methodology were used to find changes in the experiences of family volunteer activities through the use of the Health Family Support Center. Ultimately, 143 items as sub-concepts, 42 items as sub-categories, and 10 items as subjects were found. I will also suggest alternative basic and primary data. First, using 10 subjects, the following points were evaluated in detail. I looked at what kind of changes in the volunteer activities these subjects experienced after working at the Health Family Support Center, and what the specific underlying reasons were for the changes in their family volunteer experience. These included 'community solidarity', 'family community', 'leisure and culture for the family', 'communication', 'personal relations', 'coping skills', 'growth', 'sympathy', 'positive thinking', 'future plans'. Second, families experienced a feeling of belonging as community members and the family realized the importance of their life, learned communication methods and coping skills. Third, families came to have new opportunities to grow as humans and learned a feeling of sympathy for others. Fourth, families found new paradigms to think positively about their daily life and to establish future plans. We will need more effort to empower family experiences of family volunteer activities that use the Health Family Support Center as well as supporting its staff. The following specific factors were the main mediating factors for using such a facility: family volunteer education, family volunteer service agency consulting, program planning, and managing family volunteers and other services.
