In this study, a scheme of ramp metering that uses Off-ramp Exit Percentage instead of the O/D table required for systems of integrated control of ramps at the target freeway segment is presented. The segment from Gyeyang IC to Jangsu IC on the Seoul Outer Ring Expressway was selected for the study because the segment frequently shows large volume of traffic on the short distance between the two ICs requiring an integrated on-ramp control by taking the traffic situation on an entire expressway into account despite an unavailability of O/D data. Thus the information of Off-ramp Exit Percentage at each IC were collected instead of securing the O/D table through actual survey, and the congestion on the segment was analyzed to identify the validity of the use of off-ramp traffic instead of O/D data. In addition, the scheme of ramp metering that exploits the off-ramp traffic information was prepared through simulations conducted in a way supporting the traffic control for respective access roads thereof by taking traffic situations and queues on each ramp into account. The results obtained from the simulation analyses revealed an improved level of travel speed and traffic volume on the main line and validated the use of off-ramp traffic instead of the O/D table for the ramp metering.
What is attempted here is to find out an optimum method for the design of physical environments that could save human energy expenditures and safely perform household duties. There are, if any, very little amount of research done in this area. This is particulary so when the work relates to the designing of household storage facilities in the light of the energy metabolism of human body. The first step to this study, therefore, is to find out the ways by which we can determine the energy metabolism of human body accurately. To measure the volume and the concentration of human respiration continuously and automatically, a new apparatus is selected here. This includes the recording system with the Wright Respirometer and the Expired Gas Analyzer as well as the computer system to multiply volume by concentration of human respiration and to integrate them for a given time. Then, the author experimented on the reliability of this apparatus and came to the conclusion that this apparatus satisfied our need to research the energy metabolism of human body. Next, the general plan and procedures to experiment with this apparatus have been determined as follows: 1) subjects are three young and sound females. Their physical characteristics are shown in Table 1 and most approximates the standard characteristics of Japanese females, 2) height of open shelves is selected in such away as to correspond to the respective height of each subject(see Table 2), 3) utensils to be stored are box shaped object, which weight is 0.5kg, 1.0kg, 2.0kg or 3.0kg, 4) working motions are given while one or two hands as to place utensil on each shelf from the standard working board, 85 cm in height and then to place back it on the board from the shelf and repeated in constant velocity as 10 times per a minute, 5) each posture of motion is chosen by each subject in free, 6) procedures of measurement of human energy metabolism ard shown at(6), 1, Section 3 as specific methods for using this apparatus. Findings of this study are as follows: 1. Human energy expenditures for storing utensils on shelves by each subject are shown in quantity more accurately than in any other studies, under varying conditions about height of shelves, load of utensils and working motion with one hand and two hands (see Fig. 8~13 and Table 3). 2. Experimental formulae of human energy expenditure for that work are shown as formula (8), (9) and (10), to generalize results of 1. and to apply those for working motion under given conditions. 3. As results of analysis on gained data, we are able to show the standard model of human energy expenditures for storing untensils on shelves by the standard Japanese female (see Table 7 and Fig. 14).

Efficient processing of expensive queries that include joins and/or aggregate functions is crucial in data warehousing environment since there reside enormous volume of data. In this paper, we propose a new method for processing of queries that have both of joins and aggregate functions. The proposed method first performs grouping of the dimension table and then processes join by using the bitmap join index. This makes only the fact table accessed for processing aggregate functions, and thus resolves the serious performance degradation of the existing method. For showing the superiority of the proposed method, we suggest the cost models for the proposed and existing ones, and perform extensive simulations based on the TPC-H benchmark.

In numerical analysis on evaluating the thermal performance of the thermal equipment, numerical values of thermodynamic properties such as temperature, pressure, specific volume, enthalpy and entropy are required. But the steam table itself cannot be used without modelling. In this study applicability of neural networks in modelling the wide temperature range of wet saturated vapor region was examined. the multi-layer neural network consists of a input layer with 1 node, two hidden layers with 10 and 20 nodes respectively and a output layer with 6 nodes. Quadratic and cubic spline interpoations methods were also applied for comparison. Neural network model revealed similar percentage error to spline interpolation. From these results, it is confirmed that the neural networks could be powerful method in modelling the wide range of the steam table.
With increasing the volume of digital multimedia market, the security and multimedia content protection issues are arising. Interest in H.264/AVC is emerging and special features in H.264/AVC element stream must be considered. We developed a new algorithm which scrambles and descrambles H.264/AVC element stream in compressed domain using manipulating CABAC initialization table and DCT coefficients. Extensive experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm is effective and promising.
Ground water stored in the alluvium and the rocks provides the vase flow of the streams and can be withdraw from wells and infiltration galleries. And it is also recharge naturallyby precipitation. The amount of ground water in the four major basins it is estimated to be about 137,000 million cubiv meters(Table1), while nationwide ground water storage to be about 232,000 million cubic meters. The estimation of storage volume has been made on the basis of assumed thickness of the saturated zone of the different rocks and assumed porosities of those rocks. The values of the porosity of alluvium and saprolite were assumed to be 25% and 40% respectivvely which are based on tests made of similar materials in Georgia, U.S. The volume of water in storage is believed to be a conservative estimate. Detailed geologic and hydrologic investigation should be made where and when water resources are needed.

The inflow rate is of interest in the design of underground structures such as tunnels and buried pipes below the groundwater table. Soil permeability governing the inflow rate significantly affects the hydro-geological behavior of soils but is difficult to estimate due to its wide range of distribution, nonlinearity and anisotropy. Volume changes induced by stress can cause nonlinear stress-strain behavior, resulting in corresponding permeability changes. In this paper, the nonlinearity and anisotropy of permeability are investigated by conducting Rowe cell tests, and a nonlinear permeability model considering anisotropy was proposed. Model modification and parameter evaluation for field application were also addressed. Significance of nonlinear permeability was illustrated by carrying out numerical analysis of a tunnel. It is highlighted that the effect of nonlinear permeability is significant in soils of which volume change is considerable, and particularly appears in the short-term flow behavior.

This study was conducted to derive merchantable volume ratio for 5 major species such as Pinus Densiflora (Central Region). The data used for this study was from at least more than 1,300 trees of research data throughout the country. the study applied two estimation equations, which were the estimation equation for wood volume ratio representing total wood volume to total tree stem volume and the estimation equation for merchantability representing ratio of merchantable volume to total wood volume. The merchantable volume ratio was derived by multiplying those two estimation equations. In order to gain wood volume ratio(W) from DBH, $W=\frac{a_1}{1+a_2/D}+\frac{b_1}{1+b_2/D}$ model was used. Fitness index of it was more than 99% by species, and other test statistics also indicated the suitability of this equation enough. Merchantability (M) for wood volume applied $M=e^{a_1\(\frac{d}{D}\)^{a_2}}-(b_0+b_1D+b_2D^2+b_3D^3)$ model and fitness index was more than 96% by species. Merchantable volume ratio was assessed using those two estimation equations by each 5 species, and constructed a merchantable volume ratio table. In result, merchuntable volume ratio was little difference between stand types, but there was slightly different with the existing standard such as conifers of 85% and non-conifers of 70%.
Volume increment and estimation of future growth of pitch pine stand at age of 16 were analyzed based on the stand table method. The diameter growth survey was made by the Meyer's Increment Borer method which was based on the volume formular made on the single tree volume. The formular is V=0.000058D $^{1.6}{\times}H^{1.1}$ This survey was made based on the 95% reliability surveyed on the 339 trees in the 0.33ha of sample plot espicially set up. (1) Linear regression over annual diameter growth for the diameter is as follows; y=0.1618+0.0298x (2) Ninety percent of the total trees, in the diameter distribution of 2cm round off, each increased one step in diameter. (3) Stand volume increment percentage shows 16%. (4) The increment of stand volume for 5 years shows 46% of increment rate.
