  • The wavefront printer records a volume-reflection hologram as a two-dimensional array of elemental holograms from computer-generated holograms (CGHs) displayed on a spatial light modulator (SLM). The wavefront coming from the object is extracted by filtering in the spatial-frequency domain. This paper presents a method to improve color reproduction in a wavefront printer with spatial division of exposures at primary colors, by adaptive partitioning of the SLM in accordance with the color content encoded in the input CGHs, and by the controllable change of exposure times for the recording of primary colors. The method is verified with a color wavefront printer with demagnification of the object beam. The quality of reconstruction achieved by the proposed method proves its efficiency in eliminating the stripe artifacts that are superimposed on reconstructed images in conventional mosaic recording.

  • Data storage related with writing and retrieving requires high storage capacity, fast transfer rate and less access time in. Today any data storage system can not satisfy these conditions, but holographic data storage system can perform faster data transfer rate because it is a page oriented memory system using volume hologram in writing and retrieving data. System architecture without mechanical actuating part is possible, so fast data transfer rate and high storage capacity about $1Tb/cm^3$ can be realized. In this paper, to correct errors of binary data stored in holographic digital data storage system, find cluster centers using subtractive clustering and reduce intensities of pixels around centers, so the intensify profile of data rare will be uniform and the better data storage system can be realized.

  • Digital holographic particle tracking velocimetry (HPTV) is developed by single high-speed camera and single continuous laser with long coherent length. This system can directly capture 4000 hologram fringe images for 1 second through a camera computer memory. The 3D particle location is made of the reconstruction by using a computer hologram algorithm. This system can successfully be applied to instantaneous 3D velocity measurement in the water flow inside a micro-tube. The average of 100 instantaneous velocity vectors is obtained by reconstruction and tracking with the time of evolution of recorded fringes images. In the near future, we will apply this technique to measure 3D flow information inside various micro structures.

  • In this paper, we propose a volume holographic fingerprint recognition system based on optical correlator for personal identification. Optical correlator has high speed and parallel processing characteristics of optics. Matched filters are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference images of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive crystal in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database can be achieved by rotating the crystal by use of a step motor. Experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for the security verification system.

  • In this paper, we present a method to automatically quantify the three-dimensional (3D) volume of red blood cells (RBCs) using off-axis digital holographic microscopy. The RBCs digital holograms are recorded via a CCD camera using an off-axis interferometry setup. The RBCs' phase image is reconstructed from the recorded off-axis digital hologram by a computational reconstruction algorithm. The watershed segmentation algorithm is applied to the reconstructed phase image to remove background parts and obtain clear targets in the phase image with many single RBCs. After segmenting the reconstructed RBCs' phase image, all single RBCs are extracted, and the 3D volume of each single RBC is then measured with the surface area and the phase values of the corresponding RBC. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method to automatically calculate the 3D volume of RBC, two typical shapes of RBCs, i.e., stomatocyte/discocyte, are tested via experiments. Statistical distributions of 3D volume for each class of RBC are generated by using our algorithm. Statistical hypothesis testing is conducted to investigate the difference between the statistical distributions for the two typical shapes of RBCs. Our experimental results illustrate that our study opens the possibility of automated quantitative analysis of 3D volume in various types of RBCs.

  • We present our experimental results on the recording and retrieving of multiplexed near-field holograms using near-field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) and a conventional rectangular-parallelepiped or cubic photorefractive crystal. Experimental results show that we can get the angular selectivity comparable with that of the volume hologram and the retrieved spot size was smaller than the Rayleigh's limit. The results also show that the angular selectivity and the retrieved spot size are strongly dependent on the recording distance between the object and the recording medium.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated an input-output coupler system using two or three volume gratings at 632.8nm wavelength. The additional third grating is added at the output coupler to enhance the overall efficiency. The experimental results show that the total system throughput reaches 63% with two-grating and 75% with three-grating input-output coupler. We also present a design method to obtain the desired output power ratio between the gratings.

  • In this paper, a Gaussian apodization technique applied to a transmission volume hologram for holographic demultiplexer is proposed. The Gaussian apodized grating of 15 mm ${\times}$ 11mm size, $38{\mu}m$ thickness and 3.2 mm horizontal standard deviation of the Gaussian index modulation profile was fabricated. A 22-channel demultiplexer based on that grating has been optically demonstrated. The channel spacing, the interchannel cross-talk level and the channel uniformity of 0.8 nm, -30 dB and 1.5 dB, respectively, were obtained.

  • In this paper, we designed binary phase grating with SA (simulated annealing) algorithm for image generation, and used LCTV(liquid crystal television) as phase modulator. We generated optical image using LCTV which controlled by personal computer in real time. Many parameters in SA algorithm are determined by average deviation of the cost function, not experimental method. It was confirmed that the LCTV could be used as a phase modulator through mach-zehnder interferometering experiment. The various optical images are generated in real itme by fourier transforming of the phase gratings on LCTV which is controlled by personal computer and they can be used for optical interconnection in a neural network and addressing information in a volume hologram etc.
