Switched Inductor Z-Source AC-DC Converter

  • Due to the increasing amount of applications of power electronic ac-dc converters, it is necessary to design a single-stage converter that can reliably perform both buck and boost operations. Traditionally, this can be achieved by double-stage conversion (ac/dc-dc/dc) which ultimately leads to less efficiency and a more complex control system. This paper discusses two types of modern ac-dc converters. First, the novel impedance-source ac-dc converter, abbreviated as custom Z-source rectifier, is analyzed; and then, switched inductor (SL) Z-source ac-dc converter is proposed. This paper describes the Z-source rectifiers' operating principles, the concepts behind them, and their superiorities. Analysis and simulation results show that the proposed custom Z-source rectifier can step up and step down voltage; and the main advantage of the SL Z-source ac-dc converter is its high step-up capability. Low ripple of the output dc voltage is the other advantage of the proposed converters. Finally, the SL Z-source ac-dc converter is compared with the custom Z-source ac-dc converter.

  • In this paper, a method for controlling a single phase PWM AC/DC converter without any voltage sensors is proposed. In this method, the source voltage is estimated by sliding mode observer and input current is synchronized with the estimated source voltage. The source voltage is estimated by current error between the actul and the estimated current. The experimental results confirm the validity of the proposed control method.

Design and Control Methods of Bidirectional DC-DC Converter for the Optimal DC-Link Voltage of PMSM Drive

  • This paper shows the design and control methods of the bidirectional DC-DC converter to generate the proper DC-link voltage of a PMSM drive. Conventionally, because the controllable power of the PWM based voltage source inverter is limited by its DC-link voltage, the DC-DC converter is used for boosted DC-link voltage if the inverter source cannot generate enough operating voltage for the PMSM drive. In this paper, to obtain more utilization of this DC-DC converter, optimal DC-link voltage control for PMSM drive will be explained. First, the process and current path of the DC-DC converter will be illustrated, and a control method of this converter for variable DC-link voltage will then be explained. Finally, an improvement analysis of the optimal DC-link voltage control method, especially on the deadtime effect, will be explained. The DC-DC converter of the proposed control method is verified by the experiments by comparing with the conventional constant voltage control method.

  • In this paper, a current control system of a single phase PWM AC/DC converter using a reduced-order Luenberger observer without source voltage sensors is proposed. The sinusoidal input current and unity input power factor are realised based on the estimated source voltage performed by the reduced-order Luenberger observer using actual currents and DC link voltage. The poles of the reduced-order Luenberger observer are placed in the left half plane of s-plane by the pole-placement method in order to acquire the stability of the observer. The magnitude and the phase of the estimated source voltage are used to accomplish the unity power factor. The proposed method is implemented by DSP(Digital Signal Processor). Experimental Results verify that the reduced-order observer estimates the source voltage without the estimation error and the control system accomplishes the unity power factor, and constant DC link voltage.

  • The scott transformer is used to supply single-phase power to the AC railway system. Since the scott transformer is a passive facility, it cannot regulate load-side voltage according to load change. Meanwhile, the Voltage Source Converter (VSC) is able to convert the voltage and control active and reactive power. In this paper, the feasibility of a AC railway system based on Back-to-Back (BTB) VSC which is composed of a rectifier, a DC-DC converter, a inverter, has been proposed. A three-phase to single-phase BTB VSC is modeled. The proposed AC railway system based on BTB VSC is tested on Matlab/Simulink.

전 영역의 전압보상을 위한 단상 직렬형 Quasi Z-소스 전압 Sag-Swell 보상기 (Single-Phase Series Type Quasi Z-Source Voltage Sag-Swell Compensator for Voltage Compensation of Entire Region)

  • Conventional single-phase series quasi Z-source voltage compensator can not compensate for voltage sag less than 50% that frequently occurs in the industrial field. In this study, single-phase series quasi Z-source voltage sag-swell compensator which can compensate the voltage variation of entire range is proposed. The proposed system is composed of two quasi Z-source AC-AC converters connected in series with output terminal stage. Voltage sag less than 50% could be compensated by the intersection switching control of the upper converter duty ratio and of the upper converter duty ratio. Also the compensation voltage and its flowchart for each compensation mode are presented for entire sag-swell region. To confirm the validity of the proposed system, a DSP(DSP28335) controlled experimental system was manufactured. As a result, the proposed system could compensate for the voltage sag/swell of 20% and 60%. Finally, voltage compensation factor and THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) according to voltage variation and load change were measured, and voltage quality shows a good results.

  • 압전소자를 이용한 마이크로발전기를 모델링한 저전압 AC 전류원으로부터 밧데리 충전을 위한 에너지 변환회로를 제안하고, 동작모드를 해석한다. 전체 시스템의 소형화 및 고효율화를 추구하기 위해서, MOSFET 풀브리지 정류기와 부스트 컨버터의 토폴로지를 채택하였다. 제안된 컨버터 시스템의 동작원리 및 동작모드를 스위칭 소자의 기생캐패시턴스를 고려하여 해석하고, 시뮬레이션을 통해 해석결과를 검증하였다.

  • The purpose of this study is developing a converter which is able to convert a 300[KW] power, and is a DC power supply output a 1500[V] DC voltage for inverter driving. The power converter is driven by two converter serisely and keep a high power factor of power source. This system is haven all the characteristic of voltage source converter by having a processing ability of regenerating power. The two converters controls a PWM modulation and output voltage using a only one 16 bit DSP processor.
