  • The Silicon vertical Hall devices are fabricated using standard bipolar process and characterized in terms of the Hall voltage, sensitivities, and offset voltage. The Hall voltage and sensitivity of the devices showed good linearity with respect to the magnetic flux density and reverse supply voltage Vr. The sensitivity of device with P$^{+}$ isolation dam has been increased up to 1.2 times compared to that of device without the dam. With the condition of V$_{r}$=-5.0[V], B=0.4[T] and I$_{sup}$=1.0[mA], the Hall voltage and sensitivity of the device with P$^{+}$ isolation dam were about 29[mV] and 74[V/AT], respectively. These vertical Hall devices can be used as the adjustable magnetic fields sensor.

  • Various problems such as the increase of the power loss and the voltage instability may often occur in the case of low load power factor. The demand of reactive power increases continuously with the growth of active power and the restructuring of electric power companies makes the comprehensive management of reactive power a troublesome problem, so that the systematic control of load power factor is required. In this paper, the load power factor sensitivity of the generation cost is derived and it is used for determining the locations of reactive power compensation devices effectively and for enhancing the load power factor appropriately. In addition, the voltage variation penalty cost is introduced and the integrated costs including the voltage variation penalty cost are used for determining the value of the load power factor from the point of view of the economic investment and voltage regulation. It is shown through the application to a large-scale power system that the load power factor can be enhanced effectively and appropriately using the load power factor sensitivity and integrated costs.

  • In order to investigate the performance of compression-type accelerometer on piezoelectric properties, PZT materials have been studied. The ring-shaped piezoelectric elements were prepared using commercial PZT powders by conventional ceramic process. Their estimated relative dielectric constant, piezoelectric charge constant (d33) and voltage constant (g33) values showed 390∼3400, (90∼593)×10-12 C/N and (19.5∼40.5)×10-3 V-m/N, respectively. The charge sensitivity of accelerometer is proportional to the piezoelectric charge constant value (d33) of PZT, but its voltage sensitivity is related with the piezoelectric voltage constant (g33). Since the mounted resonance frequency and sensitivity are dependent on the seismic mass as well as physical charateristics and size of PZT elements, the suitable considerations between two components are required for accelerometer's design.

  • This paper describes a reactive optimal power flow incorporating margin enhancement constraints. Margin sensitivity at a steady-state voltage instability point is calculated using invariant space parametric sensitivity, and it can provide valuable information for selection of effective control parameters. However, the weakest buses in neighboring regions have high margin sensitivities within a certain range. Hence, the control determination using only the sensitivity information might cause violation of operational limits of the base operating point, at which the control is applied to enhance voltage stability margin in the direction of parameter increase. This paper applies an interior point method (IPM) to solve the optimal power flow formulation with the margin enhancement constraints, and shunt capacitances are mainly considered as control variables. In addition, nonlinearity of margin enhancement with respect to control of shunt capacitance is considered for speed-up control determination in the numerical example using the IEEE 118-bus test system.

  • A reference voltage generator which is insensitive to PVT (process-voltage-temperature) variation necessary for NVM memory IPs such as EEPROM and MTP memories is designed in this paper. The designed BGR (bandgap reference voltage) circuit based on MagnaChip's $0.18{\mu}m$ EEPROM process uses a low-voltage bandgap reference voltage generator of cascode current-mirror type with a wide swing and shows a reference voltage characteristic insensitive to PVT variation. The minimum operating voltage is 1.43V and the VREF sensitivity against VDD variation is 0.064mV/V. Also, the VREF sensitivity against temperature variation is $20.5ppm/^{\circ}C$. The VREF voltage has a mean of 1.181V and its three sigma ($3{\sigma}$) value is 71.7mV.

  • In this study, a new hot-wire anemometer which has greater sensitivity than that of a constant temperature anemometer (CTA) was proposed. In contrast to CTA, the wire working resistance of the new anemometer increases with flow velocity, that is, the operating mode of the wire becomes variable temperature. The variable temperature anemometer(VTA) was made by substituting a voltage controlled variable resistor such as photoconductive cell or transistor for one of the resistors in the bridge. By positively feeding back the bridge top signal to the input side of these electronic components, the wire overheat ratio could be increased with velocity automatically. Static response analyses of the VTA, constant voltage anemometer (CVA) and CTA were made in detail and calibration experiments were performed to validate the proposed operating principle. The wire operating resistance of the CVA decreases with velocity and this leads to lower sensitivity than that of a CTA. But the sensitivity of the newly proposed VTA is superior to that of a CTA, since the wire overheat ratio increases with velocity. Consequently, it is found that the major factor that is responsible for large sensitivity of a VTA is not the working resistance itself but the change of the wire working resistance with velocity.

  • This paper presents various processes of dynamic voltage collapse which is initiated by various power system disturbances, and the impacts of dynamic voltage controllers. According to the analysis results, the composition of induction motors with short time constants affects the voltage collapse strongly. Also, it is proved that the addition of fast acting reactive compensation devices, such as SVC, at high reactive loss sensitivity($$\delta$$Q$$_luss/\delta$$P$$_L$$) buses could be one of the best countermeasure to escape the voltage collapse.

  • As modern power systems become large and complicated, the automated voltage and reactive power control system is required in most developed countries due to the recent amazing progress of computer net works and information thechnology. So far the voltage control has been depend on human operator in korean power system. This paper presents an intelligent voltage control system based on sensitivity analysis and artificial intelligence technology. Detailed state space modeling technique is discussed and a new performance index is proposed to speed up the searching performance of the expert system. As the searching strategy is very important factor of the speed of expert system the least first search algorithm is applied using this performance index. The intelligent voltage control system is applied to the Jeju power system. As a result, case studies showed a promissing application of the intelligent voltage control system.
