  • This paper describes the design of the digital controller for Full-Bridge Phase-shifted converter with zero-voltage switching (ZVS). Although digital control techniques are widely used in the area of inverters and motor drives, their use for the control of high-frequency switching power supply is still rare. Therefore, this paper presents design method of digital controller of Full-Bridge Phase-shifted converter with zero-voltage switching (ZVS) and compares with conventional analog controller. The controller design is optimized by running computer simulation with the MATLAB numerical calculation package.

  • In this paper, a new speed estimation method of induction motors based on the very quick torque control is proposed to realize speed sensorless control. The proposed method can be realized very simply by detecting primary motor current and voltage command at every sampling time. As the method need not the differential value of primary current in a arithmetic of voltage command, it can be expected to promote the precision of speed estimation in low speed area, especially. Through the numerical simulation, the validity of the proposed method was successfully confirmed.

  • This paper describes a vibrational energy harvesting circuit with MPPT control. A high-performance AC-DC converter of which the efficiency is improved by using body-bias technique and bulk-driven technique is proposed and applied for the vibrational energy harvesting circuit design. MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) control function is implemented using the linear relationship between the open-circuit voltage of a vibrational device and its MPP voltage. The designed MPPT control circuit traces the maximum power point by periodically sampling the open circuit voltage of a vibrational device, makes the reference voltages using sampled voltage and delivers the maximum available power to load. The proposed circuit is designed with a $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and the chip area is $1.21mm{\times}0.98mm$.

  • A voltage regulator can be used to reduce the effect of the power-supply noise on the control voltage of the VCO. An accurate analysis of the voltage regulator circuit is needed for the optimal design of the voltage regulator. This paper clarifies an inaccuracy in a recent paper on the replica-compensated regulator far supply-regulated PLLs: neglect of MOSFET parasitic capacitances. As a consequence, an improved analytical model is derived for the replica-compensated voltage regulator. The derived model is verified through circuit simulation. The voltage regulator has been fabricated in a standard $0.18{\mu}m$ 1P6M CMOS technology. The chip area is $1mm^2$.

  • This paper deals with the operation strategy of reactive power in a multi-infeed HVDC (MIHVDC) system, in which several converters are connected to the same or nearby separate AC buses. The potential problems concerning a MIHVDC system when feeding a weak AC network are as follows: the need for coordination of the recovery control, the possibility of voltage instability or low quality of the area connected to the MIHVDC system, and the risk of mutual commutation failures. These problems in MIHVDC systems are similar to those in single-infeed HVDC (SIHVDC) systems, but the differences with the phenomenon of the SIHVDC system are the interactions between converters. The main reason for the potential problems of HVDC systems (MIHVDC or SIHVDC) is voltage variation; therefore, to mitigate the voltage variations, the performances of the HVDC system should be enhanced. Consequently, to mitigate the potential problems of MIHVDC systems, several solutions are suggested in this study, including installing STATCOM and installing a line arrester on the tower. The study results will be applied to a multi-infeed HVDC system in Korea.

  • In power system, the reactive power is closely associated with voltage. In addition Reactive power has localized characteristic. Recently wide area blackout caused by reactive power imbalance. Therefore it is important to control reactive power considering its characteristic. Until now maintenance of system voltage has been controlled by shunt compensation rather than generators. However because of a large time-constant, shunt compensators are difficult to manage disturbances immediately. In addition shunt compensation has discrete characteristic, which make disturbances in system. In this paper we studied the voltage maintenance method of local buses by controlling the reactive power output of a generator which is closely related a load bus in addition the proposed method was verified by test system.

  • In this paper a solar energy harvesting system with low-cost MPPT control for low duty-cycled sensor nodes is proposed. The targeted applications are environment, structure monitoring sensor nodes that are not required successively to operate, and MPPT(Maximum Power point Tracking) control using simple circuits is low-cost differently than existing MPPT control. The proposed MPPT control is implemented using linear relationship between the open-circuit voltage of a solar cell. The designed MPPT circuit traces the maximum power point by sampling periodically the open circuit voltage of the solar cell and delivers the maximum available power to the load. The proposed circuit is designed in 0.35um CMOS process. The designed chip area is $975um{\times}1025um$ including pads. Measured results show that the designed system can track the MPP voltage by sampling periodically the open circuit voltage of solar cell.

  • The development of electric vehicle power electronics system control, composed of DC-AC inverters and DC-DC converters, attract much research interest in the modern industry. A DC-AC inverter supplies the high-power motor torques of the propulsion system and utility loads of electric vehicles, whereas a DC-DC converter supplies the conventional low-power and low-voltage loads. However, the need for high-power bidirectional DC-DC converters in future electric vehicles has led to the development of many new topologies of DC-DC converters. The nonlinear control of power converters is an active research area in the field of power electronics. This paper focuses on the use of the fuzzy sliding mode strategy as a control strategy for buck-boost DC-DC converter power supplies in electric vehicles. The proposed fuzzy controller specifies changes in control signals based on the surface and knowledge on surface changes to satisfy the sliding mode stability and attraction conditions. The performance of the proposed fuzzy sliding controller is compared to that of the classical sliding mode controller. The satisfactory simulation results show the efficiency of the proposed control law, which reduces the chattering phenomenon. Moreover, the obtained results prove the robustness of the proposed control law against variations in load resistance and input voltage in the studied converter.

  • Voltage feed-forward control (VFFC) is widely used in LCL-type grid-tied inverters due to its advantages in terms of disturbance rejection performance and fast dynamic response. However, VFFC may worsen the stability of inverters under weak grid conditions. It is revealed in this paper that a large phase-lag in the low-frequency range is introduced by VFFC, which reduces the phase margin significantly and leads to instability. To address this problem, a novel virtual-impedance-based control, where a phase-lead is introduced into the low-frequency area to compensate for the phase lag caused by VFFC, is proposed to improve system stability. The proposed control is realized with a high-pass filter, without high-order-derivative components. It features easy implementation and good noise immunity. A detailed design procedure for the virtual impedance control is presented. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the control proposed.

  • In this paper, a simulation for the stability of the catenary voltage through charging and discharging by introducing an energy storage system in the railway system and the efficient usage of restoration energy has been performed. In order for the simulation, a simple railway model with an appropriate control technique has been introduced. The catenary voltage area is divided into two areas with voltage control and an area with normal operation and current control is performed to satisfy current limit of the supercapacitor. We confirmed the energy absorption and emission through the simulation and observed energy efficiency through charging and discharging according to the operation state of the railway.
