Insurers face increasing demands for cyber liability; entailed in part by a variety of new forms of risk of data breaches. As data breach occurrences develop, our understanding of the volatility in data breach counts has also become important as well as its expected occurrences. Volatility clustering, the tendency of large changes in a random variable to cluster together in time, are frequently observed in many financial asset prices, asset returns, and it is questioned whether the volatility of data breach occurrences are also clustered in time. We now present volatility analysis based on INGARCH models, i.e., integer-valued generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity time series model for frequency counts due to data breaches. Using the INGARCH(1, 1) model with data breach samples, we show evidence of temporal volatility clustering for data breaches. In addition, we present that the firms' volatilities are correlated between some they belong to and that such a clustering effect remains even after excluding the effect of financial covariates such as the VIX and the stock return of S&P500 that have their own volatility clustering.
This paper presents an empirical analysis of exchange rate volatility, petroleum's import price and industrial production on petroleum imports. The GARCH framework is used to measure the exchange rate volatility. One of the most appealing features of the GARCH model is that it captures the volatility clustering phenomenon. We found one long-run relationship between petroleum imports, import price, industrial production, and exchange rate volatility using Johansen's multivariate cointegration methodology. Since there exists a cointegrating vector, therefore, we employ an error correction model to examine the short-run dynamic linkage, finding that the exchange rate volatility performs a key role in the short-run. This paper also apply impulse-response functions to provide the dynamic responses of energy consumption to the exchange rate volatility. The results show that the response of energy consumption to exchange rate volatility declines at the first month and dies out very quickly.

In this study, we considered the clustering analysis for stock return traded in the stock market. Most of financial time-series data, for instance, stock price and exchange rate have conditional heterogeneous variability depending on time, and, hence, are not properly applied to the autoregressive moving-average(ARMA) model with assumption of constant variance. Moreover, the variability is font and center for stock investors as well as academic researchers. So, this paper focuses on the generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic(GARCH) model which is known as a solution for capturing the conditional variance(or volatility). We define the metrics for similarity of unconditional volatility and for homogeneity of model structure, and, then, evaluate the performances of the metrics. In real application, we do clustering analysis in terms of volatility and structure with stock return of the 11 Korean companies measured for the latest three years.

This paper presents the GJR GARCH model (Glosten et. al, 1993) to analyze the influences of volume volatilities on price volatilities in the fishery market. For the analysis, this study used the monthly price and volume data of aquacultural flatfish in Jeju. As a result, empirical analysis suggested volatility clustering. The persistency parameter(${\lambda}$) was estimated to be approximately 1 in aquacultural flatfish. The results showed that there is a significant negative relationship between the conditional variance of supply and that of price for aquacultural flatfish. This means that the general law of supply is valid. Finally, the empirical analysis was that an asymmetric coefficient (${\gamma}$) of GJR GARCH model was negative (-). This means that the higher volatility of volume leads to lower price volatility. That is, it is useful to make government policies that can adjust the volume (stockpiling, stabilizing supply and demand).

Stylized facts on asset return are fat-tail, asymmetry, volatility clustering and structure changes. This paper simultaneously captures these characteristics by introducing a multi-regime models: Finite mixture distribution and regime switching GARCH model. Analyzing the daily KOSPI return from $4^{th}$ January 2000 to $30^{th}$ June 2014, we find that a two-component mixture of t distribution is a good candidate to describe the shape of the KOSPI return from unconditional and conditional perspectives. Empirical results suggest that the equality assumption on the shape parameter of t distribution yields better discrimination of heterogeneity component in return data. We report the strong regime-dependent characteristics in volatility dynamics with high persistence and asymmetry by employing a regime switching GJR-GARCH model with t innovation model. Compared to two sub-samples, Pre-Crisis (January 2003 ~ December 2007) and Post-Crisis (January 2010 ~ June 2014), we find that the degree of persistence in the Pre-Crisis is higher than in the Post-Crisis along with a strong asymmetry in the low-volatility (high-volatility) regime during the Pre-Crisis (Post-Crisis).

The purpose of this study is to construct the ACD model for the block trading volume duration. The ACD model based on the block trading volume duration is referred to as Volume ACD (VACD) in this study. By integrating with GARCH-type models, the VACD based GARCH type models, which include VACD-GARCH, VACD-IGARCH and VACD-FIGARCH models, are set up. This study selects Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) Inc., offering the America Depository Receipt (ADR) in NYSE, to investigate the block trading volume duration in Taiwanese equity market. The empirical results indicate that the long memory in volume duration series increases dependence at level of volatility clustering by VACD (2,1)-FIGARCH (3,d,1) model. Moreover, the VACD (2,1)-IGARCH (1,1) exhibits relatively better performance of prediction on capturing block trading volume duration. This volatility model is more appropriate in this study to portray the change of the CHT Inc. prices and provides more information about the volatility process for investment strategy, which can be a reference indicator of financial asset pricing, hedging strategy and risk management.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the volatility and properties of a time series for tangerine prices in Jeju using the GARCH model of Bollerslev(1986). First, it was found that the time series for the rate of change in tangerine prices had a thicker tail rather than a normal distribution. At a significance level of 1%, the Jarque-Bera statistic led to a rejection of the null hypothesis that the distribution of the time series for the rate of change in tangerine prices is normally distributed. Second, the correlation between the time series was high based on the Ljung-Box Q statistic, which was statistically verified through the ARCH-LM test. Third, the results of the GARCH(1,1) model estimation showed statistically significant results at a significance level of 1%, except for the constant of the mean equation. The persistence parameter value of the variance equation was estimated to be close to 1, which means that there is a high possibility that a similar level of volatility will be present in the future. Finally, it is expected that the results of this study can be used as basic data to optimize the government's tangerine supply and demand control policy.
The purpose of this paper is to estimate the fluctuation of an earning rate and risk management using the price index of Korea stocks. After an observation of conception of fluctuation, we can show volatility clustering and fluctuation phenomenon in the Korea stock price index using GARCH model with heteroscedasticity. In addition, the effects of fluctuation on the time-series was evaluated, which showed the heteroscedasticity. MCMC method and Winbugs as Bayesian computation were used for analysis.
Due to the impact of the public health event COVID-19 epidemic, the Chinese futures market showed "Black Swan". This has brought the unpredictable into the economic environment with many commodities falling by the daily limit, while gold performed well and closed in the sunshine(Yan-Li and Rui Qian-Wang, 2020). Volatility is integral part of financial market. As an emerging market and a special precious metal, it is important to forecast return of gold futures price. This study selected data of the SHFE gold futures returns and conducted an empirical analysis based on the generalised autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH)-type model. Comparing the statistics of AIC, SC and H-QC, ARMA (12,9) model was selected as the best model. But serial correlation in the squared returns suggests conditional heteroskedasticity. Next part we established the autoregressive moving average ARMA-GARCH-type model to analysis whether Volatility Clustering and the leverage effect exist in the Chinese gold futures market. we consider three different distributions of innovation to explain fat-tailed features of financial returns. Additionally, the error degree and prediction results of different models were evaluated in terms of mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE), Theil inequality coefficient(TIC) and root mean-squared error (RMSE). The results show that the ARMA(12,9)-TGARCH(2,2) model under Student's t-distribution outperforms other models when predicting the Chinese gold futures return series.
The heterogeneous autoregressive (HAR) model is a simple linear model that is commonly used to explain long memory in the realized volatility. However, as realized volatility has more complicated features such as conditional heteroscedasticity, leverage effect, and volatility clustering, it is necessary to extend the simple HAR model. Therefore, to better incorporate the stylized facts, we propose a threshold HAR model with GARCH errors, namely the THAR-GARCH model. That is, the THAR-GARCH model is a nonlinear model whose coefficients vary according to a threshold value, and the conditional heteroscedasticity is explained through the GARCH errors. Model parameters are estimated using an iterative weighted least squares estimation method. Our simulation study supports the consistency of the iterative estimation method. In addition, we show that the proposed THAR-GARCH model has better forecasting power by applying to the realized volatility of major 21 stock indices around the world.
