Background: The first dental experience is vital in molding a child's attitude towards dentistry and dental outcomes. The cooperation of a child during dental treatment is essential to render successful and high-quality treatment. Dental anxiety is common in children undergoing dental treatment. The success of pediatric dental treatments and patient comfort depends on controlling the levels of patient anxiety in clinical settings. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the recorded maternal voice and virtual cognitive tool (Roogies application) in the management of pediatric dental patients. Methods: The study was carried out with children aged of 4-7 years [n = 80, (40 male and 40 female)], without any past dental history, and were randomly allocated into two groups. After informed consent was obtained, the entire procedure was explained to the parents. Anxiety was assessed pre-, during, and post-treatment by measuring pulse rate, and recording Venham Picture Test (VPT) scores. Group A [n = 40; 20 boys and 20 girls)] was provided with a headphone that played a recorded maternal voice. Group B [n = 40; 20 boys and 20 girls)] was administered the virtual cognitive tool. After conditioning the children, oral prophylaxis was performed for both groups. A comparative evaluation was conducted for each treatment session. Results: The intra-group comparison of VPT scores and heart rate for patients assigned to the recorded maternal voice showed a statistically significant difference in dental anxiety (P-value ≤0.001). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that a reduction in dental anxiety with the help of recorded maternal voice forms an important component of non-pharmacological behavior management. Alternatively, the use of a virtual cognitive tool as an anxiety-reducing technique can also be advocated.

The web has become indispensable in all of our daily lives. We communicate, study and get information with others through the web. This behavior also continues in the smart phone environment. The biggest problem is that the small display screen of a smart phone degrades the accuracy in selecting or manipulating content for people with low vision. To compensate for this, voice guidance services that combine touch and voice, such as VoiceOver and Talkback, are currently provided to smart phone devices. However, restrictions arise in GUI, TTS control problems, and content expansion and selection. In addition, unnecessary content is also output by voice, which causes fatigue for low vision people to use. In this study, we propose a mobile web browser interface that selects and enlarges a desired area from web browsers and contents, or outputs it as a voice so that people with low vision can easily use the mobile web browser. In this paper, we propose a context selective focusing function that enables selection for each element of web content. In addition, we intend to develop a mobile voice web browser that can enlarge the selected content or output it by voice.

Background and Objectives : Accent method is one of holistic approaches for behavior readjustment of voice therapy The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the accent method of voice therapy for the patients who have no improvement after LMS. Materials and Methods : Of the patients who had been undergone LMS during the period from Jan. 1999 to Dec. 1999, medical records of 38 patients who had not been improved were studied retrospectively. 19 patients(treatment group) were applied accent method and the other 19 patients(control group) refused voice therapy. The voice of all the patients of both group were analysed with CSL and Aerophone II programs in pre- and post operative period. The voice of treatment group were analysed with Visi-Pitch II program before the application of accent method and after the completion of accent method. Then, the results were compared using paired t-test. Results : The results of voice analysis were not different statistically between pre- and postoperative examination in both group. After application of accent method in the treatment group, fundamental frequency(F$_{0}$) of male, relative average pertubation, and shimmer were revealed significant differences(p<0.01), and decrease in grade(G) scale and roughness(R) scale were statistically Important in perceptual analysis using GRBAS criteria(p<0.01). But $F_0$ of female, maximal phonation time and S to Z ratio were not revealed significant differences. Conclusions : Accent method of voice therapy may be as a supplement- ary therapy in the patients who were not improved after surgery.

This paper describes an automatic vowel sequence reproduction system for a talking robot built to reproduce the human voice based on the working behavior of the human articulatory system. A sound analysis system is developed to record a sentence spoken by a human (mainly vowel sequences in the Japanese language) and to then analyze that sentence to give the correct command packet so the talking robot can repeat it. An algorithm based on a short-time energy method is developed to separate and count sound phonemes. A matching template using partial correlation coefficients (PARCOR) is applied to detect a voice in the talking robot's database similar to the spoken voice. Combining the sound separation and counting the result with the detection of vowels in human speech, the talking robot can reproduce a vowel sequence similar to the one spoken by the human. Two tests to verify the working behavior of the robot are performed. The results of the tests indicate that the robot can repeat a sequence of vowels spoken by a human with an average success rate of more than 60%.
Recently, the functions of smart speakers have diversified, and the penetration rate of smart speakers is increasing. As it becomes more widespread, various techniques have been proposed to cause anomalous behavior against smart speakers. Dolphin Attack, which causes anomalous behavior against the Voice Controllable System (VCS) during various attacks, is a representative method. With this method, a third party controls VCS using ultrasonic band (f>20kHz) without the user's recognition. However, since the method uses the ultrasonic band, it is necessary to install an ultrasonic speaker or an ultrasonic dedicated device which is capable of outputting an ultrasonic signal. In this paper, a smart speaker is controlled by generating an audio signal modulated at a frequency (18 to 20) which is difficult for a person to hear although it is in the human audible frequency band without installing an additional device, that is, an ultrasonic device. As a result with the method proposed in this paper, while humans could not recognize voice commands even in the audible band, it was possible to control the smart speaker with a probability of 82 to 96%.

The purpose of this study was to examine guardian's attitudes toward behavior guidance techniques used in pediatric dentistry. In this study, 117 guardians participated and the several behavior guidance techniques being used during actual pediatric dental treatment were explained to the guardians prior to writing a questionnaire. The behavior guidance techniques explained were: tell-show-do, voice control, protective stabilization by device, protective stabilization by staff, nitrous oxide sedation, sedation, and general anesthesia. For analysis, 106 completed survey forms were selected. Tell-show-do was rated as the most acceptable technique, followed (in order of decreasing acceptance) by: voice control; protective stabilization by staff; nitrous oxide sedation; protective stabilization by device; sedation; general anesthesia. Acceptance of each behavior guidance technique was not related to guardian age, gender, patient age, patient gender, patient dental experience, type of visit, and position of doctor. Within the limit of this study, the communicative guidance techniques (tell-show-do, voice control) were more acceptable than advanced behavior guidance techniques (protective stabilization, sedation, general anesthesia). The acceptability of general anesthesia was the lowest. The results of this survey may contribute to maintain optimal dentist - guardians communication in pediatric dentistry.
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control on the relationships between past behavior and customers' intention to engage in exit of dissatisfaction responses. Results of the study demonstrated that the past behavior significantly improved the predictability of the voice of dissatisfaction response intentions. Furthermore, the mediating analyses indicated that the influence of past behavior was mediated by mediator. In the contests of exit behavior, the effect of past behavior on intention to exit was mediated by attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze metacommunicative episodes comprised of nurses' metacommunicative behavior and children's responses occurring in the dyads of nurse-child within the context of an inpatient pediatric unit. Methods: Twelve dyads of nurses and children were videotaped for four hours each day over a two-day period as they interacted with each other on the inpatient unit. The metacommunicative episodes were recorded from the videotapes. The metacommunicative behavior was categorized within Shin's metacommunicative behaviors. Results: The total number of episodes between the nurses and children included in this study was 242. The most frequently used metacommunicative behavior was 'reflection', followed by tagging, baby talk, approaching, mediating eye level, friendly demand, encouraging, description of acts, symbolization, turnabouts, touching, and mimic voice, respectively. The most common response to the nurses' metacommunicative behavior was agreeing, followed by tension release. Conclusion: Young children responded positively to metacommunicative behavior by the nurses. Understanding metacommunicative behavior may help nurses approach their young patients more easily and with confidence.

This study investigates the antecedents of the complaining behaviors and complaint responses of the library and information center users based on the theoretical backgrounds and suggests eight propositions and conceptual model for the library and information center. It examines as the antecedents, satisfaction/dissatisfaction, attitude toward complaining, likelihood of success, materials/facilities/service importance, attribution, loyalty, and justices; and as complaint responses. exit, voice(redress seeking), negative word-of-mouth, and third party complaints.
The status of the Korean morphological marker '-e ci' has been controversial whether it is a passive marker, an anticausative marker, or a passive/anticausative marker. However, the previous approaches that tried to classify '-e ci' constructions based on the syntactic verb classes (i.e. intransitive or transitive) were short of explaining the properties of the constructions. In this study, the '-e ci' constructions were distinguished based on agentivity, following Levin & Rappaport Hovav (1995) and Alexiadou et al. (2006). Moreover, how the verbal root meaning is associated with the passive/anticausative construction was investigated by means of Distributed Morphology (DM) (Embick 2010; Marantz 1997). I argued that the morphological marker '-e ci' is the instantiation of the absence of external arguments. With respect to the behavior of the Korean '-e ci' constructions with the semantics of each verbal root class, I found out that the '-e ci' constructions can form passives with the verbal roots that require the external arguments; whereas, the anticausatives cannot be formed with the roots that necessarily require the agentive arguments. However, contrary to the previous arguments that '-e ci' passives can be only formed with transitive verbs, it is discovered that non-agentive transitive roots do form anticausatives. Moreover, I argued that there are two types of the anticausatives - zero and '-e ci' anticausatives. Since the valency reduction is marked by the non-active voice morphology, the zero anticausatives appear only with the roots that do not require external arguments. The different '-e ci' constructions (passives, '-e ci', and zero anticausatives) are represented by the distinct syntactic structures. I proposed that the morphological similarity between the passives and the '-e ci' anticausatives is due to the presence of VoiceP, which introduces the external arguments. Moreover, the lack of the voice morphology in the zero anticausatives is explained by the absence of the VoiceP.
