Study on behavioral change of estrus in Hanwoo (Korean native cattle) (한우 발정기 행동변화에 대한 연구)

  • The detection of estrus is very important for the successful reproductive efficiency of cattle. This has prompted the development of electronic estrus detection techniques by using the characterization of estrus behavior. The objective of this study was to investigate the changes in physical activity, mounting behavior and vocalization during estrus in Hanwoo (Korean native cattle). Bio-telemetry devices were attached to 4 multiparous Hanwoo and physical activity was compared, namely mounting behavior and vocalization for 6 days (from 2 days before the day of estrus to 3 days after the day of estrus). Physical activity rapidly increased on the day of estrus (p<0.001) and was frequently observed at night time. Mounting behavior gradually increased, starting from 2 days before the day of estrus and reached its highest level on the day of estrus (p<0.01). The circadian rhythm showed irregularities during this entire period (p>0.05). There was no significant difference in vocalization during the experiment period (p>0.05). In conclusion, we assumed that mounting behavior is an early indicator to detect estrus in Hanwoo and if both mounting behavior and physical activity are considered together it would be possible to detect estrus with a higher probability. Further studies with more information from different sources regarding the measuring of estrus in Hanwoo are needed.

  • 팝음악이 국내에 들어오면서 우리와는 체격조건이 다른 그들의 노래를 부르기 위해 가수들은 부단히애를 써야 했으며, 많은 시행착오를 겪었다. 때론 무리한 발성으로 인해 성대가 손상되는 경우도 비일비재 하였다. 가수 조용필은 자신의 신체적인 한계를 극복하여 가창력을 최대화 시킬 수 있는 해법을 우리의 국악에서 찾았다. 그 대표적인곡이 바로 "창밖의 여자"인데 이 노래는 조용필의 최고의 히트곡이자 가요발성에 있어 새로운 전환점을 만들어준 곡이다. 본 연구에서는 당시의 시대적, 음악적인 배경 등을 통해 가요계의 전반적인 상황이 어떠했는지를 파악하여 왜 그 노래가 당시엔 획기적인 창법이었는지 그 이유를 제시해 보고자 한다. 또한 "창밖의 여자"의 곡의 흐름과 감정처리 방법, 테크닉 등을 분석해 봄으로써 호흡과 발성이 어떻게 이루어지고 표현되었는지를 연구해 보도록 하겠다.

The Voice Quality of the Children with Cochlear Implant According to the Time (인공와우 이식시기에 따른 아동의 음질 특성)

  • This study investigates the voice quality including F0, jitter, shimmer, and NHR for the children with cochlear implant (CI group) and those with normal hearing (NH group). The CI group was further classified two sub-groups depending upon the time of surgery (i.e. under four years vs. over four years). Three corner vowels (e.g. /a/, /i/, /u/) with extended vocalization were used and analyzed with Multi-Dimensional Voice Program (Kay Elemetrics, Model 4300). The statistics were made in two independent sample t-test with SPSS 11.5. The results can be summarized as follows: (1) The children with cochlear implanted before 4 years of age had very similar data with the NH group except for the vowel /a/. (2) The children with cochlear implanted after 4 years of age, however, indicated significant differences in Fo (/a/, /i/, /u/), Jitter (/e/), shimmer (/a/, /i/, /u/) and NHR(/a/) in all three vowels. It is concluded that the early CI surgery and the early intervention would be very important to maintain better voice quality.

  • In this paper, a speech recognition system using a speaker defendant algorithm is implemented on the PC. Results are loaded on a LDM display system that employs Intel StrongArm SA-1110. This research has completed so that this speech recognition system may correct its shortcomings. Sometimes a former system is operated by similar speech, not a same one. To input a vocalization is processed two times to solve mentioned defects. When references are creating, variable start-point and end-point are given to make efficient references. This references and new references are changed into feature parameter, LPC and MFCC. DTW is excuted using feature parameter. This security system will give user permission under fore execution have same result.

  • 노래를 부르는 가수에게 있어 가장 중요한 부분은 정확한 음정과 박자이다. 그와 더불어 중요한 부분이 바로 발음인데, 노래라고 하는 것이 멜로디와 가사말로 구성되어 있기 때문에 발음이 불명확하면 내용이 전달되지 않기 때문이다. 성악이나 판소리의 경우 사전에 충분한 훈련을 통해 음정, 박자와 더불어 발음부분까지 충분히 숙지하는 경우가 대부분이지만 대중음악부분은 모든 가수들이 충분한 훈련 기간을 거쳐 데뷔하는 경우가 많지 않기 때문에 상당부분 미숙한 것이 사실이다. 그중에 가장 소홀히하는 부분이 발음인데, 노래에 멋을 부린다고 하기엔 발음이 너무 과하거나 왜곡되게 표현되는 부분이 많다. 본 연구에서는 노래를 부를 때의 정확한 발음법과 노래의 느낌을 살릴 수 있는 효과적인 발음법에 관해 연구해 본다.

  • Voice is made by systemic interaction of respiration, vocalization, articulation and resonation. There is no existing multi-channel voice analysis system to assess voice and respiration simultaneously. The most existing systems consist of. vocal fold vibration measurement such as stroboscopy, EGG (electroglottography) or laryngeal electromyography and voice analysis system. Since respiration has close relationship with voice simultaneous analysis of both vocal cord vibration and respiration are essential. In this study, a four channel integrated system are developed for acoustic analysis through microphone, vocal fold vibratory analysis using EGG, and respiratory analysis using two channel RIP (respiratory inductive plethysmography).

The Relationship between Acoustic Characteristics and Voice Handicap Index in Esophageal Speakers (식도발성 환자의 음향학적 특성과 음성장애지수의 상관성)

  • This paper investigates the relationship between acoustic characteristics and voice handicap index for 29 males with esophageal speakers. Acoustic characteristics were measured by using a sustained vowel /a/ three times. The stable vocalization for 2 seconds was analyzed by MDVP program. Specifically, relationships between four VHI scores (total, functional, physical, and emotional) and three acoustic characteristics (jitter, shimmer, and NHR) were investigated using the Pearson correlation coefficient. As results, we found no relationship between NHR and VHI scores. However, both jitter and shimmer had statistically significant correlations with all four VHI scores. This research will contribute to establishing a baseline related to speech characteristics in voice rehabilitation with esophageal speakers. Further research could be done to examine the overall quality of life survey, which is widely used as a subjective measure about voice for patients with esophageal speakers.

GINSENG SELF-ADMINISTRATION IN MONKEYS

  • Four monkeys (Macaca mulatta) were allowed to press a lever in their cages in order to earn access to one gram pieces of Panax ginseng root. Self-administration performance on an operant schedule (mult FR20 F11) was characterized by frequent pauses and increased intertrial interval responding. When given 23 hour unlimited access to ginseng root, as well as to food and water, all animals titrated their daily intake to approximately 1.5 g/kg. Gross behavioral changes included increases in vocalization, activity, stereotyped movements, and weight loss. These patterns of behavior are typical of those seen when monkeys self-administer psychomotor stimulants. Further studies on ginseng's reward value can be conducted using this animal model.

  • 한류 문화를 비롯해 방송사들에서 시행하는 각종 오디션 프로그램들로 인해 대중음악계가 상당히 부각되고 있다. 이러한 가요계의 발전과 더불어 가수가 되고자 하는 지망생들이 급격히 증가하였는데, 아직은 이들을 가르치고 훈련을 받을 수 있는 교육적인 여건이 미비하다. 본 논문은 가수지망생, 즉 보컬이 기복적으로 갖추어야 할 호흡과 발성법에 관한 논문이다. 호흡과 발성은 노래를 잘하기 위한 과정이지만, 노래를 잘하기에 앞서 목소리를 크게 만들고 라이브 공연 시 목소리를 안정적으로 내기 위한 필수적인 요건이다. 명성에 비해 라이브 실력이 부족한 가수들을 흔히 볼 수 있는데 이것이 모두 호흡과 발성훈련을 소홀히 해서 생긴 결과이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 크고, 안정적인 목소리를 만들기 위한 발성훈련 방법에 대해 알아보는 논문이다.

Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Findings in Perro de Presa Canario Dogs with Spongy Degeneration of the Central Nervous System

  • 2-Month-old, three related Perro de Presa Canario dogs were evaluated for similar neurological symptoms like circling, head pressing, depressed mental status, hypermetria, and vocalization. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain, there were large, bilaterally symmetrical lesions with involvement of thalamus, and brainstem that were T2- and FLAIR-hyperintense and T1-iso/hypointense. There was no inclusion of cerebellum. Single-voxel spectroscopy acquisition was located in the thalamus where abnormalities were found in MR images. The results of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) showed markedly decreased N-acetylaspartic acid value. Euthanasia was performed and lesions consistent with the canine spongy degeneration. Alteration in metabolites in the brain can be determined by MRS, which helps in diagnosing degeneration/leukodystrophy of the central nervous system in dogs.
