  • The 4th generation mobile communication system, LTE, does not support an additional core network to provide voice service, and it is merged into a packet network based on all IP. Although Voice service over LTE can be supported by VoIP, it will be provided by the existing 3G networks because of the discontinuity of LTE coverage. However, it is inevitable to adopt VoIP over LTE to provide high quality voice service. In this paper, we investigate the capacity of VoIP over LTE. Our results indicate that spectral efficiency can be significantly improved as channel bandwidth increases in terms of VoLTE capacity. In addition, we can achieve higher VoLTE capacity without decreasing control channel capacity.

  • Recently, the voice service over a mobile communication system tends to be provided based on the packet-based technology. Even though the sufficient transmission rate is supported by LTE mobile communication system, the quality of VoIP service that is experienced by the user can be degraded by the change in the transmission conditions and the terminal mobility. This paper has established an environment on which experiments are conducted for the different values of the major parameters that represent the transmission conditions. The result can contribute to the decision of the requirement that the mobile system should meet for maintaining the quality of VoIP service.

  • Recently, LTE is preparing to make a new leap forward LTE-A all over the world. As LTE privides high speed service, the role of mobile phones seems to change from voice to data service. According to Cisco, global mobile data traffic will increase nearly 11-fold between 2013 and 2018. Mobile video traffic will reach 75% by 2018 from 66% in 2013 in Korea. However, voice service is still the most important role of mobile phones. Thus, controllability of throughput and low BLER is indispensable for high-quality VoIP service among various type of traffic. Although the maximum AMR-WB, 23.85 Kbps is sufficient to a VoIP call, it is difficult for the LTE which can provide tens to hundreds of MB/s may not keep the certain level VoIP QoS especially in the cell-edge area. This paper proposes a new scheduling algorithm in order to improve VoIP performance after analyzing various scheduling algorithms. The proposal is the technology which applies more priority processing for VoIP than other applications in cell-edge area based on two-tier scheduling algorithm. The simulation result shows the improvement of VoIP performance in the view point of throughput and BLER.

  • Currently, with rapid progress and supply of mobile communication technology, LTE(Long Term Evolution) technology is expanded and widely used to industrial and emergency communications beyond earlier smart-phone based service. In this paper, transmission performance of voice traffic, one of railway communication service based on LTE-R as an application field of LTE technology, is analyzed. This study is performed performance analysis with level of application service and consider effects of satisfaction level for users. Computer Simulation based on ns(Network Simulation)-3 is used for analysis and VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) specification is used for voice traffics. Results of this paper is used to implement LTE-R networks and develope application services over LTE-R network.

  • It is informed that the Voice over LTE(VoLTE) which serves voice and message on IP networks is better in terms of economies of scale than the legacy voice service on 2G/3G circuit-switched networks because of its technological and cost efficiency. In addition, services of voice and data are running on a single LTE network and as a result VoLTE has the more economies of scope. But, there is no study about how much technology-efficiency VoLTE has compared to circuit-based voice service and how much voice charge can be reduced as VoLTE grows up. This paper analyzes empirically cost-efficiency of VoLTE against circuit-based voice service and quantifies the reduction of voice charge as 2G/3G voice traffic shifts to VoLTE. The results describe the first is that the average cost of the total voice traffic rises shortly just after the investment of LTE network for providing VoLTE but it will soon have a capacity available to reduce the charge due to VoLTE's outstanding cost efficiency on the assumption that voice traffic is fixed, and the second is that the charge can be cut to 60% of the current rate in case of all the voice traffic moves to VoLTE. The latter proves partially the validation of data-focusing pricing plan. Our results are expected to become basic data for network operators' establishing pricing strategies and for policy makers' inducing price cutting.

  • The burgeoning growth of real-time applications, such as interactive video and VoIP, places a heavy demand for a high data rate and guarantee of QoS from a network. This is being addressed by fourth generation networks such as Long-Term Evolution (LTE). But, the mobility of user equipment that needs to be handed over to a new evolved node base-station (eNB) while maintaining connectivity with high data rates poses a significant challenge that needs to be addressed. Handover (HO) normally takes place at cell borders, which normally suffers high interference. This inter-cell interference (ICI) can affect HO procedures, as well as reduce throughput. In this paper, soft frequency reuse (SFR) and multiple preparations (MP), so-called SFRAMP, are proposed to provide a seamless and fast handover with high throughput by keeping the ICI low. Simulation results using LTE-Sim show that the outage probability and delay are reduced by 24.4% and 11.9%, respectively, over the hard handover method - quite a significant result.
