A Study on Route Map Visualization Method for Mobile Handset (모바일 핸드셋을 위한 라우트맵 시각화 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Location Based Service(LBS) system is widely used in Car Navigation Service(CNS), position tracing, tour guide, etc. Recently, the development of a mobile hardware enables us to run various application of software on small handset. Although CNS systems are widely used on personal computer, PDA and embedded machines, small display system of a mobile handset still constrains to make it difficult to developed route visualization and navigation system. In this paper, we propose a new route map visualization system on mobile handset environment for LBS system. We use modified line simplification algorithm that removes extraneous information and places more emphasis on the turning point. We also adopted level of detail route visualization technique for visualization of a detail map. This system improved turn-by-turn method and line drive system, which are widely adopted by current route visualization system.

An Experimental Comparison on Visualization Techniques of Long Menu-Lists (긴 메뉴항목 리스트의 시각화 기법 비교에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • With the rapid change of the Web and E-transaction application, the search interface is providing more powerful search and visualization methods, while offering smoother integration of technology with task. Especially, visualization techniques for long menu-lists are applied in retrieval system with the goal of improving performance in user's ability to select one item from a long list. In order to review visualization techniques appropriate to the types of users and data set, this study compared the five visualization browsers such as the Tree-structured menu, the Table-of-contents menu, the Roll-over menu, the Click menu, and Fisheye menu. The result of general analyses shows that among the hierarchical methods, the experienced group prefers the Table-of-contents method menu, whereas the novice's group prefers the Tree-structure method menu. Among the linear methods, the two groups prefer the Roll-over menu. The Roll-over menu is most preferred among the five browsers by the two groups.

  • In comparison with the acquirement of knowledge by expression of symbol or numerical formula, the experience based knowledge acquirement give stable and clear understanding of information to a learner. Various educational systems based on computer such as virtual reality, intelligent learning system, visualization of concept, simulation-based system, and microworld have so far been developed. In this paper, a method of two dimensional visualization of a physical law by simulation has been suggested to educate a learner. Especially, learning the law of gravity by simulation based educational method gives a learner indirect experience that enhance the efficiency of knowledge acquirement clearly. The visualization methods of a real-time physical law and a virtual anomalies' physical law by simulation are proposed in this paper to deliver information or knowledge clearly. Then we show that a learner can acquire some knowledge effectively by the proposed method.

Visualization of 3D Scanned Model for Interpretation of Heritage - Case of Dinosaur Tracks for Documentation and Interpretation (문화 및 자연 유산의 해석을 위한 3차원 스캔 모델의 가시화 - 공룡발자국의 기록과 해석 사례)

  • As yet the use of 3D scanning technology has been limited to documentation, preservation and monitoring in cultural and natural heritage domain. Appropriate visualization of precise geometric information in scan data can support scientific interpretation of the domain experts. We studied the rendering techniques which visualize the required features from scanned models, and proposed a 3D scan data visualization pipeline, rendering methods, and a classification scheme. As a case study, we analyzed the traditional method in the study of dinosaur tracks and performed the visualization of 3D scanned models. A user test based on the result confirmed an effectiveness of the proposed method. This research showed a practical method in which 3D scanned models can be used to effective interpretation of heritage.

Phased Visualization of Facial Expressions Space using FCM Clustering (FCM 클러스터링을 이용한 표정공간의 단계적 가시화)

  • This paper presents a phased visualization method of facial expression space that enables the user to control facial expression of 3D avatars by select a sequence of facial frames from the facial expression space. Our system based on this method creates the 2D facial expression space from approximately 2400 facial expression frames, which is the set of neutral expression and 11 motions. The facial expression control of 3D avatars is carried out in realtime when users navigate through facial expression space. But because facial expression space can phased expression control from radical expressions to detail expressions. So this system need phased visualization method. To phased visualization the facial expression space, this paper use fuzzy clustering. In the beginning, the system creates 11 clusters from the space of 2400 facial expressions. Every time the level of phase increases, the system doubles the number of clusters. At this time, the positions of cluster center and expression of the expression space were not equal. So, we fix the shortest expression from cluster center for cluster center. We let users use the system to control phased facial expression of 3D avatar, and evaluate the system based on the results.

Investigation of vortex core identification method for wind turbine wake (터빈 후류를 관찰하기 위한 와류 코어 식별 기법 연구)

  • In this study, we conduct a numerical experiment of the single 5MW NREL wind turbine and compare the performance of various vortex core identification for the wake behind the wind turbine. In the kinetic analysis of wind turbine, 20% velocity deficit at 200 s is observed, showing wake which contains tip vortex near blade tip and rotor vortex at the center of the wind turbine. Time series of velocity and turbulent intensity show numerical simulation converge to a quasi-steady state near 200 s. In the comparison between methods for vortex identification, ${\lambda}_2$-method has good performance in terms of tip vortex, rotor vortex, vortex during its cascade process compared to vorticity magnitude criteria, ${\Delta}$-method. We conclude that ${\lambda}_2$-method is suitable for vortex identification method for wake visualization.

  • Recently, switchboards for MV/LV distribution customers have been united and digitalized rapidly. This paper suggestes the effective information visualization method for the data mesured from cubicle switchboard for MV/LV distribution customers. We developed the algorithm that analyzes a large number of mesured data and displays them to users overall, such as fire index, power condition index, switchboard safety index, and power diminution index. Using a touch screen made users to operate it easily. User interface was also strengthened by taking graph visualization. We guess the information visualiztion method suggested in this paper shows the new direction that heavy electrical equipments including switchboards are going to develop in the future.

  • We are planning to construct a scaled-down moderator facility to simulate the CANDU-6 moderator circulation phenomena during steady state operating and accident conditions. In the present work a preliminary experiment using a 1/40 scaled-down moderator tank has been performed to investigate the anticipated problems of the flow visualization and measurement in the planning scaled-down moderator facility. We shortly describe CFD analysis result for the 1/40 scaled-down test model and the flow measurement techniques used for this test facility under isothermal flow conditions. The Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) method is used to visualize and measure the velocity field of water in a transparent Plexiglas tank. Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) technique is used to evaluate the feasibility of temperature field measurement in the range of $20-40^{\circ}C$ of water temperature using an one-color method.

  • As commercial game engines become available to the public, attempts have been made to use it for general purpose research. This study uses the game engine to develop a medical simulation. Specifically, when the user selects an important portion of the human body, the focus+context visualization is applied to the volume data. We proposes the accumulation based method to make the background part more transparent and naturally fuse it with the focus part. Since the proposed method combines well with the existing volume visualization, the virtual surgery function such as incision is performed smoothly. The game engine is useful for general-purpose research, because auxiliary functions such as collision handling and UI can be efficiently created with the help of it.
