Object Classification based on Weakly Supervised E2LSH and Saliency map Weighting

  • The most popular approach in object classification is based on the bag of visual-words model, which has several fundamental problems that restricting the performance of this method, such as low time efficiency, the synonym and polysemy of visual words, and the lack of spatial information between visual words. In view of this, an object classification based on weakly supervised E2LSH and saliency map weighting is proposed. Firstly, E2LSH (Exact Euclidean Locality Sensitive Hashing) is employed to generate a group of weakly randomized visual dictionary by clustering SIFT features of the training dataset, and the selecting process of hash functions is effectively supervised inspired by the random forest ideas to reduce the randomcity of E2LSH. Secondly, graph-based visual saliency (GBVS) algorithm is applied to detect the saliency map of different images and weight the visual words according to the saliency prior. Finally, saliency map weighted visual language model is carried out to accomplish object classification. Experimental results datasets of Pascal 2007 and Caltech-256 indicate that the distinguishability of objects is effectively improved and our method is superior to the state-of-the-art object classification methods.

Visual Performance Evaluation of Daylighting System with Sloped Lightshelves (광선반 채광시스템의 시각적 성능 평가)

  • This study assessed the visual performance of luminous environment by the lightshelf. The subject survey method was used and results are presented and analyzed. The lightshelf daylighting system was developed by LAEL at KH University and was applied on the window of a mock-up office. The questionnaire for assessing visual performance contains 9 questions with 7 grade bipolar scales. The experiment was conducted during the bright part of the day from noon to one thirty on June 7, 2006. During the experiment was carrying out, the work plane illuminance and luminous distribution at surrounding the windows was measured. The semantic differential rating data of experiment were analyzed by t-test and factor analysis using SPSS 12.0 statistics package. The visual performance of the lightshelf was more positive. The factors affecting the visual performance are task performance and visual comfort. The subjects were more comfortable in a room installed with lightshelves on both the task performance and the visual comfort aspect. Therefore, the application of sloped lightshelf daylighting system improves visual performance of luminous environment.

Perception of Ship's Movement in Docking Maneuvering using Ship-Handling Simulator

  • Recently it is coming to be hish reality on visual system in ship-handling simulator depending on the technical development of 3D computer graphics. Even with high reality, it is possible that visual information presented seafarers through screen or display is not equivalent to the real world. In docking maneuvering, visual targets or obstructs are sighted close to ship's operator or within few hundred meters, so it might be possible to affect visual information such as the difference between both eyes' and single eye's visual sight. Because it is not possible to perceive of very slow ship's movement by visual in case of very large vessels, so the Doppler Docking SONAR and/or Docking Speed and Distance Measurement Equipment were developed and applied for safety docking maneuvering. By the way, the simulator training includes the ship's maneuvering training in docking, but in Ship-handling Simulator and also onboard, there are some limitations of perception of ship's movement with visual information. In this paper, perception of ship's movement with visual system in Ship-handling Simulator and competition of performances of visual systems that are conventional screen type with Fixed Eye-point system and Mission Simulator. We got some conclusions not only on the effectiveness for visual system but also on the human behavior in docking maneuver.

  • A new query method, called query by visual keys, is proposed to aim easy operation and efficient region-based image retrieval (RBIR). Visual keys are constructed from representative regions/subimages in a given image database, and the database is indexed with visual keys. A system on PC is presented, where text retrieval techniques are applied to the image retrieval with visual keys. Experimental results show that one retrieval is done within 4ms and that the proposed system achieves the comparable retrieval precision (with user-friendly operation and low computational cost) to conventional region based image retrieval systems

  • This paper proposes conceptual fuzzy sets for picture reference system with visual user interface and command recognition system without keyboard and mouse. The picture reference system consists of the associative picture database, the visual user interface and command recognition system. The associative picture database searches pictures by using conceptual fuzzy sets. To show pictures attractive, the visual user interface provides some visual effect functions. The command recognition unit, without keyboard and mouse, captures user's hand by camera and informs it to the system as a command. We implement and evaluate the picture reference system.

  • In this paper, a development of the sensor fusion algorithm for a visual control of mobile robot is presented. The output data from the visual sensor include a time-lag due to the image processing computation. The sampling rate of the visual sensor is considerably low so that it should be used with other sensors to control fast motion. The main purpose of this paper is to develop a method which constitutes a sensor fusion system to give the optimal state estimates.   • Car navigation system is one of the most important applications in telematics. A newest trend of car navigation system is using real video captured by camera equipped on the vehicle, because video can overcome the semantic gap between map and real world. In this paper, we suggest a visual car navigation system that visually represents navigation information or route guidance. It can improve drivers' understanding about real world by capturing real-time video and displaying navigation information overlaid on it. Main services of the visual car navigation system are graphical turn guidance and lane change guidance. We suggest the system architecture that implements the services by integrating conventional route finding and guidance, computer vision functions, and augmented reality display functions. What we designed as a core part of the system is visual navigation controller, which controls other modules and dynamically determines visual representation methods of navigation information according to a determination rule based on current location and driving circumstances.   • Daylight is a critical factor in architecture, as it enhances the working efficiency and visual comfort of the people working inside. Even though, low transmittance glazing has been used in the most office buildings in Korea. And it is reduced visual comfort in a indoor environment. So, we need to evaluation of quality for various daylighting systems to improve visual comfort This study aims to evaluate the visual comfort in a indoor environment by different daylighting system. For the purpose, four different daylighting systems-conventional window, conventional window with interior lightshelf, differentiated window, differentiated window with interior lightshelf-were selected and a questionnaire survey with 50 subjects were conducted. The results are as follows. Regardless daylighting systems, a view has an effect on visual comfort. A conventional system and conventional system with lightshelf were highly correlated between comfort and warmth. In case of differentiated window system were correlated between comfort and openness. Also, differentiated window with interior lightshelf were highly correlated between comfort and stability.

  • This paper proposes an advanced visual tracking algorithm for the stable grasping of a moving target(2D). This algorithm is programmed to find grasping points of an unknown polygonal object and execute visual tracking. The Kalman Filter(KF) algorithm based on the SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) is applied to the visual tracking system for the tracking of a moving object. The KF based on the SVD improves the accuracy of the tracking and the robustness in the estimation of state variables and noise statistics. In addition, it does not have the numerical unstability problem that can occur in the visual tracking system based on Kalman filter. In the grasping system, a parameterized family is constructcd, and through the family, the grasping system finds the stable grasping points of an unknown object through the geometric properties of the parameterized family. In the previous studies, many researchers have been studied on only 'How to track a moving target'. This paper concern not only on 'how to track' but also 'how to grasp' and apply the grasping theory to a visual tracking system.

  • In this paper, I made visual inspection system using Vision Board and it is consist of an illuminator (a fluorescent lamp), image input device(CCD(Charge)Coupled Device) camera), image processing system(Vision Board(FARAMVB-02), image output device(videomonitor, printer), a measuring instrument(TELMN1000). Length measurement by visual inspection system is used 100mm gauge block instead of calculating distance between camera and object, it measured horizontal and vertical length factor from 400mm to 650mm by increasing 50mm. In this place, measured horizontal and vertical length factor made use of length measurement of a injection. A measuring instrument used to compare a measured length of a injection visual inspection system with it. In conclusion, length measurement of a injection compared a measuring instrument withvisual inspecion system using length factor of 100mm guage block. Maximum error of length compared two devices a measuring instrument with visual inspection system is 0.55mm. And operation program is made up Borland C++ 3.1. By changing, it is applied to various uses.
