  • Purpose: To evaluate the tracing of optic nerve tract using manganese enhanced magnetic resonance Imaging. Materials and Methods: After injecting $30{\mu}l$ of $MnCl_2(1mol)$ (1 mol) Into the retina of female New Zealand white rabbit, the contrast enhancements at major anatomical structures of optic nerve tract were evaluated by high resolution T1-weighted Images 12 hours, 24 hours, and 48 hours after $MnCl_2(1mol)$ Injection using 3D FSPGR (Fast Speiled Gradient Recalled echo) pulse sequence at 1.5T clinical MR scanner with high performance gradient system. Also, for quantitative evaluation, the signal-to-noise ratios of circular ROI on anatomical locations were measured. Results: The major structures on the optic nerve tract were enhanced after injecting $MnCl_2(1mol)$. The structures, which showed enhancement, were right optic nerve, optic chiasm, left optic tract, left lateral geniculate nucleus, left superior colliculus. The structures on the contralateral optic pathway to the right retina were enhanced whereas the structures on the ipsilateral pathway did not show enhancement. Conclusion: The Mn transport through axonal pathway of optic nerve sys)em was non- invasively observed after injecting injecting $MnCl_2$ at the retina, which is the end terminal of optic nerve system. This Mn transport seems to occur by voltage gated calcium $(Ca^{2+})$ channel and In case of direct Injection Into the retina, the fast transpori pathway of voltage gated calcium channel seems to be responsible for Mn transport.

  • Purpose: To quantitatively and qualitatively compare fat-suppressed MRI quality using iterative decomposition of water and fat with echo asymmetry and least-squares estimation (IDEAL) with that using frequency selective fat-suppression (FSFS) T2- and postcontrast T1-weighted fast spin-echo images of the head and neck at 3T. Materials and Methods: The study was approved by our Institutional Review Board. Prospective MR image analysis was performed in 36 individuals at a single-center. Axial fat suppressed T2- and postcontrast T1-weighted images with IDEAL and FSFS were compared. Visual assessment was performed by two independent readers with respect to; 1) metallic artifacts around oral cavity, 2) susceptibility artifacts around upper airway, paranasal sinus, and head-neck junction, 3) homogeneity of fat suppression, 4) image sharpness, 5) tissue contrast of pathologies and lymph nodes. The signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) for each image sequence were assessed. Results: Both IDEAL fat suppressed T2- and T1-weighted images significantly reduced artifacts around airway, paranasal sinus, and head-neck junction, and significantly improved homogeneous fat suppression in compared to those using FSFS (P < 0.05 for all). IDEAL significantly decreased artifacts around oral cavity on T2-weighted images (P < 0.05, respectively) and improved sharpness, lesion-to-tissue, and lymph node-to-tissue contrast on T1-weighted images (P < 0.05 for all). The mean SNRs were significantly improved on both T1- and T2-weighted IDEAL images (P < 0.05 for all). Conclusion: IDEAL technique improves image quality in the head and neck by reducing artifacts with homogeneous fat suppression, while maintaining a high SNR.

  • 'Naturalness' is the important "ness" which is a key factor in image quality assessment. 'Naturalness' is a representive factor depending on the context of the image which arouses different emotions. The Image Quality Circle was split into two steps. The first step is predicting the visual perceptual attribute which are lightness, colourfulness, hue and contrast. The next step is SSE which is dependent to image contents. In this study the image contents are grouped in genres. The images were rendered using four different colour attributes which are lightness, contrast, colourfulness and hue. Using a scale, the score of image quality and SSE was asked to each participant for all rendered images. A seven-point category scale of increasing amount of "ness" is used as a quantitative adjectives sequence. The image quality model was built by combining the SSEs for each scene. The SSEs, where vividness is common, are considered as independent variables to predict the image quality score. Then the vividness model was built using colour attributes as variables to predict the vividness of each scene (genre). Vividness is an important factor of naturalness which the meaning is different for all scenes that links the naturalness and image quality. The vividness meaning was different for each scene (genre). Therefore, the colour attributes that express the vividness would depend on the image content.

  • We obtained precise linear transverse displacements from the results of signal processing on moire fringes measured by the superposition of a fixed self-imaging elongated circular(EC) grating and a moved EC grating. The linear displacement less than one pitch of the moving EC grating was calculated from the position of a bright moire fringe generated on the linear grating part of the EC gratings. The moire signals were high-frequency-filtered, smoothed, curve-fitted, and first-differentiated moire signals in sequence. Also the linear displacement created by movement by the unit of integer times of a pitch was readily measured by the count of the even number of zero-crossing points corresponding to bright moire fringes obtained by the above same processing without curve fitting. Then we can measure linear transverse displacements with the accuracy of better than 3 %, which are more accurate values than those by the traditional visual method within the displacement of 80 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

  • In recent days, when the development in smartphones has made it common to operate objects by using them, this study aimed to present a guideline for the UI/UX designs for applications which are necessary for operating various objects through the wireless communication technology. To suggest the application guideline, existing object control application case studies were analyzed, and based on this investigation the object control application UI/UX design guidelines were proposed. This study classified the types of wireless connections used by smartphones (LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NCF, RFID) and analyzed the necessary design factors for operating objects by each type. Based on such analysis, this study presented the design sequence, factors, and methods for the UI/UX guidelines of applications. First, the method of connection was selected; second, the control device was selected. This new direction for designing smartphone applications for operating objects will likely help systemize the design process and enable the user to operate the object more intuitively. In future research, case studies will be designed applying the guidelines suggested from this study.

  • This study was conducted to consider application methods of infographic that corresponds to the educational goals of English subject, which is applied with different teaching and learning standards than other subjects. The aim of this study is to analyze the types and the characteristics of 'infographic completed by know-how learning', in other words, 'User behaviors involved infographic', which is frequently used in English textbook. Based on an analysis according to the teaching and learning standards, infographic used in English textbook were suggested in three types, which are 'General Concept', 'Significance' and 'Signification' centered infographic. In addition, according to the level of diagram composition, the main visualization attributes were derived as 'Overview', 'Structure', 'Relationships', 'Sequence', 'Transition between states' and 'Messages'. The major findings of this study are as follows: First, it is necessary to conduct a study on diverse display methods for 'Signification-centered infographic' that need to be displayed on the basis of two or more visual attributes. Second, as the purpose of application for applying infographic in English textbook collides with that in information design fields, it is found that verification is required on the educational effects in relation to this aspect.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the performance of the T1 3D subtraction technique and the conventional 2D dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) technique in diagnosing Cushing's disease. Materials and Methods: Twelve patients with clinically and biochemically proven Cushing's disease were included in the study. In addition, 23 patients with a Rathke's cleft cyst (RCC) diagnosed on an MRI with normal pituitary hormone levels were included as a control, to prevent non-blinded positive results. Postcontrast T1 3D fast spin echo (FSE) images were acquired after DCE images in 3T MRI and image subtraction of pre- and postcontrast T1 3D FSE images were performed. Inter-observer agreement, interpretation time, multiobserver receiver operating characteristic (ROC), and net benefit analyses were performed to compare 2D DCE and T1 3D subtraction techniques. Results: Inter-observer agreement for a visual scale of contrast enhancement was poor in DCE (${\kappa}=0.57$) and good in T1 3D subtraction images (${\kappa}=0.75$). The time taken for determining contrast-enhancement in pituitary lesions was significantly shorter in the T1 3D subtraction images compared to the DCE sequence (P < 0.05). ROC values demonstrated increased reader confidence range with T1 3D subtraction images (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.94-1.00) compared with DCE (95% CI: 0.70-0.92) (P < 0.01). The net benefit effect of T1 3D subtraction images over DCE was 0.34 (95% CI: 0.12-0.56). For Cushing's disease, both reviewers misclassified one case as a nonenhancing lesion on the DCE images, while no cases were misclassified on T1 3D subtraction images. Conclusion: The T1 3D subtraction technique shows superior performance for determining the presence of enhancement on pituitary lesions compared with conventional DCE techniques, which may aid in diagnosing Cushing's disease.

  • Staphylococcus aureus is the most important pathogen in nosocomial infections, including bloodstream infections. Prompt identification of S. aureus from blood cultures and detection of methicillin resistance are essential in cases of suspected sepsis. We have studied a new method for the sequence-specific visual detection of minute amounts of nucleic acids using intercalating reaction by addition of SYBR Green to amplicons of LAMP, and it's a unique gene amplification method in which DNA can be isothermally amplified using only one enzyme. Staphylococcus-LAMP, which targets the spa gene, encoding S.aureus-specific protein A, and the mecA gene, encoding penicillin-binding protein-2' for methicillin resistance, detected MRSA and MRSE. In this study, by using LAMP assay, I detected for Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis concentration in the clinical sample. The detection of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis was tested by using serial 10-fold dilutions standard solution. I have accurate detected the limit of detection, sensitity, specificity and reproducibility of the assay. The Bio-chip based LAMP assay allowed easy, rapid, accurate and sensitive detection of infection with Staphylococcus and especially applicable in a resource-limited situation.

  • This paper presents a preliminary study of roller types for chip seals based on aggregate retention performance. Chip seal test sections composed of single seals of granite 78M aggregate and CRS-2 emulsion were constructed using three different roller types: the pneumatic tire roller, steel wheel roller, and combination roller. In order to investigate the performance of these rollers effectively, it is critical to test chip seal samples obtained directly from field construction. Therefore, test sections were constructed on New Sandy Hill Church Road near Bailey, North Carolina. Chip seal samples obtained from these sections were used for laboratory testing. The aggregate retention performance was evaluated using the flip-over test (FOT), Vialit test, and the third-scale Model Mobile Loading Simulator (MMLS3). Based on the test results and visual observation, both the pneumatic roller and the combination roller used together are recommended to improve chip seal performance with the sequence of the pneumatic roller rolling first followed by the combination roller.

  • Video instance segmentation is an intelligent visual task with high complexity because it not only requires object instance segmentation for each image frame constituting a video, but also requires accurate tracking of instances throughout the frame sequence of the video. In special, human instance segmentation in drama videos has an unique characteristic that requires accurate tracking of several main characters interacting in various places and times. Also, it is also characterized by a kind of the class imbalance problem because there is a significant difference between the frequency of main characters and that of supporting or auxiliary characters in drama videos. In this paper, we introduce a new human instance datatset called MHIS, which is built upon drama videos, Miseang, and then propose a novel video data augmentation method, CDVA, in order to overcome the data imbalance problem between character classes. Different from the previous video data augmentation methods, the proposed CDVA generates more realistic augmented videos by deciding the optimal location within the background clip for a target human instance to be inserted with taking rich spatio-temporal context embedded in videos into account. Therefore, the proposed augmentation method, CDVA, can improve the performance of a deep neural network model for video instance segmentation. Conducting both quantitative and qualitative experiments using the MHIS dataset, we prove the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed video data augmentation method.
