  • Recently many researches on intelligent robots have been studied. An intelligent robot is capable of recognizing environments or objects to autonomously perform specific tasks using sensor readings. One of fundamental problems in vision-based robot applications is to recognize where it is and to decide safe path to perform autonomous navigation. However, previous approaches only consider well-organized environments that there is no moving object and environment changes. In this paper, we introduce a novel navigation strategy to handle occlusions caused by moving objects using various computer vision techniques. Experimental results demonstrate the capability to overcome such difficulties for autonomous navigation.

  • This research is related to GPS(global positioning system) enabled device navigation service and consists of two parts. The first is the logic that records the route guidance video and records GPS information in time, and the second is the logic that outputs the created video data based on real time GPS. The recording logic first determines the origin and destination, records the video from the origin to the destination and it adjusts the speed of the image in a specific area so that the user can see it easily. And insert ancillary information and advertisements that can help guide the route. In the output logic, we provide navigation services using the video and GPS data tables we created, and it receives user's GPS information in real time and corrects it based on the recent user location to reduce errors. This provides local guidance services to people who lack language skills like foreigners.

  • We propose a space and time based sensor fusion method and a robust landmark detecting algorithm based on sensor fusion for mobile robot navigation. To fully utilize the information from the sensors, first, this paper proposes a new sensor-fusion technique where the data sets for the previous moments are properly transformed and fused into the current data sets to enable an accurate measurement. Exploration of an unknown environment is an important task for the new generation of mobile robots. The mobile robots may navigate by means of a number of monitoring systems such as the sonar-sensing system or the visual-sensing system. The newly proposed, STSF (Space and Time Sensor Fusion) scheme is applied to landmark recognition for mobile robot navigation in an unstructured environment as well as structured environment, and the experimental results demonstrate the performances of the landmark recognition.

  • Ship's positino data obtaining method is ine of the very important factor innavigation . Nowadays, GPS(Global Positioning System) using the earth orbiting satellites are equipped and operated for the position finding. Because it provides more precise position information than other equipments and is very convenient for navigator. In this study, it is designed to develop the GPS simulator for everybody being able to proactise the GPS operating skill like as navigation planning, navigation calculating etc. And also, it can be operated with personal computer without real GPS receiver. This simulation system is based on the real GPS receiver system and built by the visual basic 5.0 program. And it displays the ship's position and navigating information and plots the ship's moving track on the screen in real time according as initial setup data-main engine's rpm, rudder angle, depature position and waypoint.

  • We investigated the importance and efficiency of active and passive exploration on the recognition of objects in a variety of virtual environments (VEs). In this study, 54 participants (19 males and 35 females) were randomly allocated into one of two navigation conditions (active and passive navigation). The 3D visual display was presented through HMD and participants used joysticks to navigate VEs. The VEs consisted of exploring four rooms (library, office, lounge, and conference room), each of which had 15 objects. 'Active navigation' was performed by allowing participants to self-pace and control their own navigation within a predetermined time limitation for each room. 'Passive navigation' was conducted by forced navigation of the four rooms in random order. Total navigation duration and objects for both navigations were identical. After navigating VEs, participants were asked to recognize the objects that had been in the four rooms. Recognition for objects was measured by response time and the percentage of correct, false, hit, and miss responses. Those in the active navigation condition had a significantly higher percentage of hit responses (t (52) = 4.000 p < 0.01), and a significantly lower percentage of miss responses (t (52) = -3.763, p < 0.01) in object recognition than those in the passive condition. These results suggest that active navigation plays an important role in spatial cognition as well as providing a better explanation about the efficiency of learning in a 3D-based program.

  • In this paper, we deal with performance evaluation of visual path following using 2D and 3D information. Visual path follow first teaches driving path by selecting milestone images then follows the same route by comparing the milestone image and current image. We follow the visual path following algorithm of [8] and [10]. In [8], a robot navigated with 2D image information only. But in [10], local 3D geometries are reconstructed between the milestone images in order to achieve fast feature prediction which allows the recovery from tracking failures. Experimental results including diverse indoor cases show performance of each algorithm.

  • This paper deals with the improvement of visual path following through velocity variation according to the coordinate of feature points. Visual path follow first teaches driving path by selecting milestone images then follows the route by comparing the milestone image and current image. We follow the visual path following algorithm of Chen and Birchfield [8]. In [8], they use fixed translational and rotational velocity. We propose an algorithm that uses different translational velocity according to the driving condition. Translational velocity is adjusted according to the variation of the coordinate of feature points on image. Experimental results including diverse indoor cases show the feasibility of the proposed algorithm.
